  • A true icon to the car industry, the trend setting hot hatch of the late 80's that contributed towards the progression of the boy racer era, this MK2 GTI instantly gives you the authentic hot hatch excitement you still get today from modern motors. The light body weighing in at only 936KG along with the 1.8L NA engine pushing 118BHP to the front wheels makes it the perfect formula for fun and impressing people. With the car having no driver aids and a very tricky clutch I learned that it takes a lot of practice to master the 5 speed gearbox as even the slightest quick lift from the clutch causes instant wheelspin. The GTI has somewhat soft suspension and very comfy seats to my surprise of a car that's 30 years old and the interior was very spacious, the build quality was solid showing that VW has kept consistent throughout the years which is the main reason VW cars last so long. .
The amount of road presence this car has is also ridiculous as it's such a loved and iconic design especially in the condition this one was in. .
The videos prove how much fun being inside this car is as it performs so well around country roads and corners so well due to the light weight and the skilled driving of the owner it definitely was an experience that everyone should have to see how far hot hatches have come since one of the originators.

Always nice to see younger folk enjoying these cars. I had one brand new back in 1991! :) Power for the 8v is 112 bhp not 118 though.

Own GT3RS, 993 and E39M5 but nevertheless this car (as 16V) is high up on my list. Owned a 8V without hydraulic steering and loved it!

Love to hear it, E39 M5 is the best M5 from the bunch but they’re so closely matched! I had as much fun in this 89’ GTI in the new 7.5’s aswell they hold such a unique buzz... I think it’s the fact that there’s no driving aids 🤣
