I now appreciate being "dragged" around all the various cultural landmarks by my parents, but at the time they seemed to vary alarmingly between the enjoyable to the terribly boring. Powys Castle sounded promising when learning of the days destination, it conjured up the stone giants of Harlech or Dover. Imagine the sense of betrayal when this large stately looking home emerged into view. It's got gardens too, I learned, which didn't help much at the time...
