When you said the podcast has been going for 5 years I realized that I used to listen to the podcast while mowing my parents lawn in high school and now I listen to it on my way to work as a married woman. The podcast has been the soundtrack of my young adult years. Thank you!

Those chickens are so cute! And the fact that your mom made them a little satchel and a little book to have in their satchel is so delightful, as well as the funny and cute little tag by your dad. Now I know how you bloomed into the being you are because your parents are just as delightful as you.

I know this is a late comment and probably won't be seen but if you're ever in London again Kayley (or anyone else who loves gardens) I recommend the Garden Museum, it's a small museum in an old church that explores gardens and gardening, they have a great book selection and cafe as well.

Another book I enjoyed by Marc Hamer (the mole catcher guy) was the beautifully-written “Spring Rain: A Life Lived in Gardens” (2023).🌱 For those new to him, Hamer is a retired English gardener living in Wales. In the words of Hamer, "Spring Rain is about the joy of your own back garden. It is a story about the joy of small things, the world in a grain of sand, a universe in a small garden, with love for all the insects and slugs and flowers and weeds and seeds and roots and boundaries and shade and weather that the garden contains." Nature writing at its best.

Every time the girls say TOve JAnsson, my heart sinks a little 😅. I understand that this is how you would read her name in English, but it is very far from how it actually sounds: Swedish pronunciation: [ˈtuːve ˈjɑːnsːon]. I thought I'd mention it here as her name is now mentioned in every episode, which is cool as she's amazing ❤❤

i really liked all of kayleys recs! (oh no, my tbr is gonna get bigger once again), when describing her favourites and the kind of books she tends to read, it really reminded me of one of my all time favourites: "this is how you lose the time war", bcs it is queer, also very whimsical (starless sea is definitely my top book ever! and has some same themes and vibes in it), and it has a garden in it. its very probable that kayley has read it already, it was also pretty big everywhere, but i just wanted to mention it, in case theres someone with similar taste.

Why do I read all the short ones first and then let the long ones linger, even though I know I will like them? I really need to learn to mix it up, lengthwise. Ugh. I will have nothing but GIANT baked potatoes left soon. Potato Mountain is real.

I have just finished my mashiest mashed potato book of all time and have immediately rushed to the comments section to inform you guys (after having a lil cry). My mum read Never Let Me Go when it was published, when I was ten years old. I used to pick up her books when she was done with them, but when she explained what this one was about I found the idea so sad that I couldn’t face actually reading it, and actively avoided it whenever I saw it in bookshops since, despite the concept still haunting me. Then, a few years ago I read Remains of the Day by Ishiguro. I fell in love with his writing style and knew I was going to read every book written by him… with dread as I realised that meant finally facing NLMG. Several years of the book sitting on my shelf later, and 19 years after I first thought about picking it up….. I have officially conquered those potatoes!

speaking of garden books! 'Modern nature' is an amazing book by Derek Jarman, it's his diaries from 1989 to 1991, if i'm not mistaken, where he chronicles his life in a small cottage as he's creating his films, tending his garden and living witch HIV. he's really passionate about the garden and the flowers, but also talks a lot about his life, art and whatever comes to his mind. it's quite a tough read since he documents the loss of people around him from AIDS as well as his own sickness, but i would highly recommend it!! also i've recently learned that his friends (including the wonderful Tilda Swinton) bought the cottage a few years ago and started an art residency there, where artists can come and finish their book or a script etc BUT ALSO they're welcoming those who want to do something ambitious with the garden. i feel like it's such a perfect thing to do with his legacy

Book recommendation for Raeleen: You Know You Want This by Kristen Roupenian. It´s such an awesome collection of short stories, unbelievably twisted and fast-paced, in a way that is very reminiscent of Roald Dahl! The stories are quite original in that they unapologetically depict 'unhinged' women, so much so that I believe the book challenges and can be divisive to certain readers.

The chicken with satchel and book! The moment I saw it, I immediately thought that it'd be best placed next to T Kingfisher's books. Nettle & Bone features a demon-possessed chicken Haha but I've heard that some of her other works have chickens too. I know Ariel's considering a cozy fantasy section in the truck--maybe Nettle & Bone could be a good pick. It's a bit dark but it blends cozy, fairy tale and funny elements so well.
