I lived in Leucadia in a 3 bedroom apt run by an old AA guy named Murphy. He moved in kicked out all the riff
raff and took in sober alcoholics and drug addicts. We paid 300 a month for a room. (I snuck my gf in so I only had
to pay $150. Did I mention all bills paid? Of course being it was '92 so prices were different. Beach was right across the railroad tracks. That apt is $4000 a month now. Ya that train was loud. It shook the whole bldg in the middle of the night.
You forgot a really big one: the AMAZING schools. To be clear, I straight-up cannot afford to live here - but I do, somehow. I've managed to hang on by the skin of my teeth for the past 6+ years out of sheer force of will, so that my son can have access to the stellar education Encinitas schools provide. Is the rent too high? No. It's WAAAAAYYYYY too high! But it's almost like getting a private school education for my boy included in the price. Plus, I mean... what better place can you think of to grow up in? ☮
We've lived all over San Diego county. El Cajon, North Park, Carlsbad, Oceanside, Vista and San Marcos. We loved living in North county specifically Carlsbad. We are at a turning point right now with our properties and one of those directions is just selling everything and buying something small by the coast so we can just be back toward the beach. I haven't been diving in over a year because it's just too much to make happen. And If you haven't hit up Kotija Jr. for a fish and chips burrito you should do it👍
Kotija was one of the first places we checked out! Great spot.
I hope you get it all figured out. Get back to the coast and life seems to slow down 🤙

I live in Carlsbad, but thinking about moving south to San Diego (Mission Hills/Hillcrest). I am considering Encinitas, but it seems to have the same vibe as Carlsbad.

Currently renting in Del Mar. we had a house in Encinitas in the 2005-2012 time period. I wish we could have kept it.

I live in RB and may want to move to Encinitas. I'm thinking that if I want to buy a smaller home, I must first list my large home for sale and THEN start looking. And hope my home sells and the buyer will rent back to me until I find my smaller home? I am a senior and probably do not qualify for a mortgage but i wouldn't need one once I sell my large mortgage-free home. I'd be a cash buyer. But I do not want to move twice and/or put my things in storage.
Exactly. You can also list your home contingent on finding a suitable replacement property. There are a couple different ways to structure it.
