I have an LR4 with a failing battery which AAA seem unable to diagnose correctly. As a result the voltage lines to all the electronics are affected when trying to crank the engine. This glitched the smart key system causing it to hang, and not being able to start the vehicle at all. This solved the smart key read problem. I guess it's a hard reboot to the system in removing the fuse and reconnecting it again. This video saved towing and paying through all orifices to a Land Rover dealership. Thanks and good work!
Can't believe you guys can actually criticize this gentleman's effort to help thousands of people for free. You go to the dealer with this and it will cost $2500 to $5000 by the time they are done, trust me I know first hand. Wish I had seen this before. This video is amazing and all I can say is wow. EXCELLENT WORK SIR. And by the way, that corrosion will shut everything down eventually. Dealer tried to clean it up for me and still will not work. Its obvious water and electronics don't mix well. I had all the same symptoms with the radio, navigation and dashboard going out after the rain. It was caused by the Phillips Auto Glass after they changed my windshield. Had the dealer replace it since the car was already there.
Dude thank you so much I had a similar issue after I washed my vehicle (2011 RRS HSE Lux edition). Took apart the back panel like you did, unplugged the "black box", didn't see any water or corrosion but once I plugged it back in everything worked fine! Also, my key fob is old and busted which is why I first assumed it was a key fob issue... It was not. This solved my problem thank you again!
i know this video is old, not trying to add any negative energy. just wanted to point out you pulled F5 fuse instead of F17. however, I do appreciate the follow thru with the rest of the diagnosing its helping me find my tail with my customers LR4
Absolutely spot on diagnosis. Great find, goes to show that when bundling the systems together and they all relies on a good line of communication that any disturbance can rear it's ugly head as a no start.
Wish I could give you 100 thumbs up.. I had this issue in the discovery 4 (driving me mad) but the 1 minute fuse replacement worked for me. 😃🙌🏾 Thank you for the video..
Lots of work to find the problem. But you might have gotten lucky. You pulled F5, not F17 (freeze frame the fuse layout). 'IF" pulling F17 "might" have generated a logical reset in the system, it may have started fine giving you a false fix. Then, if you found no further problems at the time you might have delivered back to the customer, only to have the problem show up when it got wet again, leaving you with a come-back or worse (a bad reputation if they decided to take it elsewhere). It happens to a lot of us. Well done video. Thanks for sharing. P.S. I wonder if the KVM problem that's being investigated might be the caused by this same issue of water getting in the Parking Aid Module. It 'would be intermittent', and changing the KVM wouldn't fix the problem. 🤔
You might be correct. It can be difficult sometimes when I’m trying to film and work at the same time, so I wouldn’t be surprised if I pulled the wrong fuse. I’ll have to go back and check the fuse layout on the video. Thanks for the heads up!
Doubt it would have provided a false fix. The can bus signal was completely messed up. Other than the wrong fuse identification, this ended up the right way and in this situation i don't think pulling the correct fuse would have changed the path taken.
Wow. What a find! I c u broke out the old Maxi Das. Still a very capable tool. I like how u went to the com lines. I learned a lot in this one. For me, never work on a Range River, I mean Rover.
Well diagnosed. Lots of bizarre issues to be had on can bus vehicles. Scoping out the can high/low lines a must. Well done on getting to the bottom of this tricky issue.
Great troubleshooting! Even though some say you pulled the wrong fuse you fixed the cause not the symptoms. Any customer would love it if they didn't have to come back for the same issue! Word of mouth is crucial and I bet you got lauded on this. You got my thumbs up!!
6 1/2 Hrs later "things went from 0 to 100 real quick" dash stripped down😳😳 it sure did! From fuse and battery to inside the dash. Another great vid! Key em coming.🤘🤘
Interesting video, a good one to keep in mind. As others have already said though, you pulled the wrong fuse which could have completely messed with your direction of diagnosis, but luckily it had nothing to do with that land rover bulletin you found anyway.
One of the few you tube😀 videos that actually kept to the point and followed through to a conclusion. 10/10 Great explanation. Thank you. Just curious, was your parking module installed upside down? Mine was and was full of water.
I heard horror stories about poor Land Rover reliability but took the plunge and bought a CPO 2012 LR4 (7 years from time of service/100K bumper-to-bumper warranty, which gave me comfort) and had zero problems with it. Then we bought a 2016 Range Rover Sport and again have had no electronic problems (but the rear hatch sometimes won't close tightly using the motor and has to be slammed shut, which I think is a strut or gasket misalignment); it's a great car. Yesterday we bought a Range Rover (CPO). I think reliability of Land Rover in general has improved significantly since the marque moved away from Ford and Tata Motors invested billions in the company. Service at the dealership has been good. This is in contrast to my 2015 F150 with the 3.5 Ecoboost which developed gasket leaks just after passing out of warranty requiring a complete engine rebuild that took three weeks for return to service.
Excellent work man! Extremely impressed by your video! Thank you for your time! Question, What would you say an estimate of the cost of repair would be? I understand you did not fix the leak, but an estimate of everything would be great! thank You!!
Hey Eric nice diag. I tip. Sometimes, not every you can pull fuses that power modules your trying eliminate. That way you dont have to tear everything apart. Ive been very successful doing that many times.
@@jd3497 this was during the bmw ownership era. The L322 range rover shared a lot with the e53 x5 (another problematic vehicle) even down to all the components in that same left rear area.
A 2011 is pure JLR. Last Ford version was 2009 I believe. Tata may own JLR but these units for NA are still designed and built in the UK. I have a 2000 and a 2008 RRSC. No unusual problems with either.
@@Airman.. maybe not. Had he pulled F17 and not F5, that might have fixed his problem there and then! He didn't follow his own process. He also mistakenly said: "... Reinsert the 17 amp fuse.."
Obviously some things never change. I have the 2014 Range Rover Sport and it has got a rear quarter glass or liftgate seal leak, which has run down inside and taken out the Differential Control Module. Great design and engineering foresight caused the factory to mount the module upside down, which then makes the pressed metal cover form a cup just perfect for rainwater collection. Still waiting for the new part to get here after the attempted shafting by the local RR importer.
I hope customer appreciated your service and didn't cry when you billed them. Also you needed to be paid whatever you asked. Some people just don't understand how involved these job get all the time... great video..
Hi, thanks for your video I watched it and was very interesting, although it never help me as I’ve lost my keys and car is dead locked ( no spare 😭), I have liked and subscribed now going to watch your other stuff, happy new year anyway 🎉 from Edinburgh Scotland 🍻🏴
Exact same problem right down to the ccarwash..2010 Range Rover . Unplugged the Parking Aid Module. found the corrosion. started right up Thank You!!!f
I was literally gonna give you the same answer you got... I’m glad I forwarded it to the end lol ps they all leak cover the modules with plastic and you’ll save the customer money since the amp and other modules are down there
I would wager the leak is coming from the tailgate as these are a known weak point on most Land Rover/Range Rover products. Especially if the drainage is compromised ir ‘overwhelmed’. Another possibility may be from the sun roof or roof bar areas. Range Rover trunk areas are favourite areas for placing sensitive equipment and these issues could also be caused by an over zealous ‘valet’ as I experienced with an 2009 TDV8 which affected the compressor electricals which were located in the spare wheel compartment below the trunk floor. All in all a great diagnosis.

Or can I just disconnect my battery like you did in this video to reset everything to get it back working? And keep you great to know videos come to us here on RUclips!
