Hi texture wise it’s similar, but konnyaku jelly is made with a high percentage of konjac which is a root plant. As for the instant jelly powder, it also has some composition of seaweed. So overall results wise , the jelly will turn out more clear compared to using konnyaku. Nonetheless it’s a pink jelly so I don’t think it should matter ☺️

Hello thanks for trying ! Yes it’s quite tricky to get it to stick well. Don’t let the pink layer completely set. When you see a firm film at top of the liquid ( when you touch it it will bounce back) pour the white layer.

If you are afraid it will be too sweet, then just add a tablespoon of sugar to mix the instant jelly and agar-agar powder. After the liquid boils, test the sweetness, then add to your taste
Hi Ruyi, I tried making your lychee santan jelly. Not sure what went wrong? The base clear jelly was too soft. I followed your recipe to the “T”. Adding both agar agar powder (5 grams) and (3 grams) instant jelly powder. 5 grams I measured with 1 teaspoon and 3 grams was slightly less than 1 teaspoon. Is it because the powders was too little? I’m so sorry to hear that it didn’t go too well. Yes you will need to increase the powder. Sometimes different brand have different liquid to powder ratio. Next time after it is cooked scoop up some into a small saucer. Place in the fridge for 5 mins then test whether you like the consistency
Hi it usually solidifies within 10-15 mins. The agar agar powder solidifies easily at room temperature. If it does not solidify within 30 minutes, then probably there is not enough agar-agar powder. (For some brands the powder to liquid ratio is different) Then you need to add more powder to the solution. Mix it well and boil again.
I see gelatin does not solidify at room temperature. Follow the packet instructions for the powder / or gelatin sheet to liquid ratio. You have to place it in the fridge or freezer. Usually fridge 4-5 hours. Freezer 1-2 hours. Then once it solidifies add the coconut layer and place in the fridge. I’m not very experienced in gelatin so I’m not sure if the two layer will stick well.

If not to be found (or I discover some ingredient which my family can’t consume) is it possible to double up and just add more agar agar? Also, one last question if I may: “What’s the reason for introducing this pre-made processed box of jelly … what quality does it try add to the end product itself … just in case I need to try and substitute this particular ingredient? Ah I see. Most of my recipes have no cow’s milk ! My nephew is my no.1 jelly fan and he is lactose intolerant so my recipes use mostly coconut milk 😅

Hello 👋 thank you ! You can use 120 ml lychee syrup + 680 ml water for the liquid. The rest follow the same. I used 7 inch mould.

Did you wait for the coconut layer to firm up before putting into the fridge?
You can place it straight into the fridge. I usually wait until it reaches room temperature so that it doesn’t use up too much energy for my fridge.

1 teaspoon is about 3-3.3 grams so yes most likely not enough powder

@doracotterell2863 yes you can replace it with agar agar. If you don’t want the powder type of agar agar you can use the strip agar-agar

Just to clarify you mean “agar-agar powder” it’s just more convenient and dissolves quicker. Texture wise the agar strips is more stiff.
How do you measure 3g of agar powder? Because the powder very light.
