For Experienced Pilots - Tell new RC pilots about flight simulator software so they can develop skills needed to fly without risking their planes and the associated repair costs.
For Beginners - I know with so many other things on your shopping list, a simulator may not be a priority. That's why I made this video. The software is free, the radio is marginal and can be used in actual planes. The amount of money a simulator will save you in airplane damage will more than pay for itself in a very short period of time.

Did this solve the issue for anybody?
@@RCVideoReviews not for me :(
Does it have helicopter?
@@RCVideoReviews negative. Went full screen and windowed. resized the window and still nada. i7 with GTX1080 desktop (not laptop)
@@TheRealOzWookiee I haven't tried this sim since I upgraded from my 1050ti laptop to a 1660 Super desktop. I may give it a try again to see if I encounter any issues. It worked fairly well on my laptop.
Just downloaded and started flying with my FlySky i6x, no issues at all. Hats off to you sir for this most valuable resource.
Awesome! Glad you found the video and got the software to work with your radio. Have fun flying.
I bought i6x yesterday. Im gonna try this today before flying model
How did you connect it was it with the sm100 cable ?
@@eduardoresendiz1525 The included sm100 cable with FS-i6x worked for me.

RUclips recommended this.
Been practicing last few weeks. Haven’t flown in about 30+ years. Will fly one of my fathers planes next week.
Learned to fly with a Taxi back when this wasn’t around.
Great tool to learn.
A simulator saved me about $10,000.00 in planes when I was learning. Using one is well worth the small expense.
100%
I've ran rc rock crawler trucks for a few yrs now. Was looking @ dipping toe into rc planes. I like this Sim route. May have to give it a try!!
This is a great way to give it a look and working on initial skill development without spending any $. Have fun with it.
This is a good RC model plane sim introduction video.
Thank you :)
Just an FYI the Sim download covered in this video DOES NOT WORK it is missing windows files necessary to run. Making it a waste of time. Thanks
For you maybe. It obviously worked in the video. Thanks.
😊Hi! I started learning flying RC planes with FMS back in 2007. I bought a dummy TX come with FMS software for WinXP😂it's nostalgia for me.👍
Windows XP....haven't thought about that OS in a long time.
A little bit quirky but I got it up and running on my Flysky i6x, thanks! Now I can hopefully teach my daughters to fly without trashing planes or losing my temper, LOL
It's a lot easier with a reset button. Definitely a little quirky, but the muscle memory learning makes it worth it.
I started flying when there was really no electric planes just gas/nitro, u start with a trainer then move on to low wing etc. my first 2 trainers I crashed, got me a sim right after, some good practice and I became a boss at the flying field
oh sweet! I've been looking for a free sim to teach my friend. Great video!
Right? I didn't know anything about this until very recently.
for RC Helicopter, I would recommend "Hover Here" simulator.
very detailed heli models.
Have you tried AccuRC?
@@RCVideoReviews yes.
I'm recommending Hover Here, because it's totally free, but of high quality.
3d models of helis are even more detailed compare to AccuRC.
but for some odd reason, Hover Here doesn't like blutooth connected TX16s.
works fine with USB C connected TX16s.
AccuRC works with both type of connection.
Thank you for that, I’ve been looking for something exactly like this, I’ve tried the high end sims and they ain’t free. You have to start somewhere.
Agreed. This is a good option to get a feel for without laying out much cash.
I like that all programmed settings on my FlySky i6x (switches, rates & expos, channel mixing etc) that i setup for my Dynam Pitts all work in the sim.
Thanks again for the heads up, this sim has really worked for me.
I remember the first pc RC flight sim I played, it was in the model shop I used to frequent more days than not, so this flight sim had a single tone green floor, a single tone light blue sky above the flat horizon, and a 2D stick model airplane or helicopter, when I say it had a stick model, I mean a stick model….This looks like a great looking free flight trainer.
This video is pretty old at this point. I'm not sure if that trainer will even still work on Windows. Check into Phoenix Sim. It is considered abandonware.
PicaSim by rowlhouse UK is a more recently updated alternative to FMS. On android we control PicaSim by connecting our i6x via usb-otg. In Windows 10 we run the program Xoutput from github & connect our FlySky i6x that has the 2019 Sep OEM firmware directly to the computer via USB. (Before we learned about Xoutput to convert the i6x's 'Direct Input' to Xinput) we also used the alternative but less simple method of making a custom cable to connect directly to the microphone jack then using SmartPropoPlus to convert the signal (e.g. videos 'Tutorial Connect Flysky FS-i6 to flight simulator' and 'make simulator cable in 3 minutes').
the screen is flashing intensly and I can't handle it
The model airplane is also invisble
Edit: I changed maps and the flashing stopped and I could see the plane, problem was the enviroment was pitch white
I’ve just picked up a TX16S. Gonna see if I can figure out how to set this up. I haven’t flown in years and this seems like a great idea to get back in the swing of things before I trash a couple of hundred bucks into the ground.
It's a good way to connect the brain to the thumbs without spending very much. Good luck and welcome back to the hobby.
Same here, I flew on the cliffs in So Cal. 37 years ago!
This is a great idea, I really like his videos as they are so detailed!
Just watched this .. and am waiting for my first place to arrive.. after a year of flying gps drones..... needed a good sim to help me learn before i wreck my new plane..
Found your vid... Ive download and started training myself.. 👍..
Ps i agree with you about a basic sim doing the job.. rather than all the bells and whistles... its all i need.. thanks again.
Thanks for the comment. Muscle memory is the trick.
71.00 as of now sir.i think it comes with a cord Detrum 8CH digital USB simulator
I installed this on the Mac (7 bucks) and I connected the Jumper T18 with USB C (lightning) Cable and it works. I had some difficulties to get the Gas Channel working normally. What I find difficult is orientation, finding back to the Runway. The Picture should be more wide angle, also in FPV mode, you don't see enough to orientate. Maybe can't complain for 7 bucks.... I'm not sure how this simulator then translates to real flight with a model. But its worth a try.
Good comments. I agree on the runway orientation--difficult to get that right without getting low. I really look at this as an entry level, learn muscle memory type of trainer. It can help get those fingers wired to brain. Also decent litmus test for new entrants to the hobby without putting too much $ down first.
Where did you get this for Mac?
I have a simulator w/ a usb cord comming out of the top. is there something i'm missing ? does not work.
Upon downloading the software, and opening it, the first thing it says is "D3DRM.dll not loaded."
it happened to me too, have you fixed it?
same here and i cant get it to run :/
Does the free sim cover helicopters?
I don't recall. That video is 1.5 years old and I don't remember seeing helis in it.
yes it covers, you can download lots of mods like i did
Have not load d3.ddm.dll
I used this sim 16 years ago, i could fly planes but use it to learn to fly helicopters, big range of models to.choose from.and download 👌
Im all about that free sim. Its ridiculous they are charging 100 bucks just for the software on RF9. You would think they would try to get people in the hobby by making it cheap or free.
Never thought of it that way. Great point!
Nice video and I agree this could really help beginners learn how to fly RC fixed wings safely. I just got my TX16S and wanted to try it with this simulator. Watched your video 2 on the TX16S and switched on USB to joystick. Tried it with the FMS but the TX sticks won't calibrate. Wonder if you can suggest a fix. Thanks.
I did a video showing how to get the TX16s Joystick to work with Windows. When I made the FMS video, mine worked, so I didn't have the issue. A couple of people mentioned the problem--hence the video showing the fix. You can watch the joystick fix here: ruclips.net/video/cUmDBS4CeG8/видео.html
If your radio shows up as a Joystick, the FMS sim should work fine. Alternatively, you could also upgrade your Radio firmware to 2.3.11. The changelog says they've gained access to a unique USB id which should avoid future usb/joystick issues.
@@RCVideoReviews Thanks for the tip! My TX16s is still on 2.3.9. I'll upgrade to 2.3.11 and hope it works.
I have TX16S with external ExpressLRS module, which have Blutooth.
Windows 11 seem to have no problem connecting with either Blutooth, or USB C.
don't know about other versions of Windows.
Hi. you were right, the cost is now $15.99 if they had any, also I'm in the UK so would have to pay shipping, but as they dont have any and they only do two models, convenient you picked up the type of controller they sell... So I've given up, Ill practice real time... and 15.99 isn't a bad price for buying the FREE software I suppose..
It would be great to have an option to see fpv camera view with OSD like Ardupilot or iNAV
I always download the error when it will be installed always appears D3DRM.dll is not included. maybe you can help me with my problem
Can I use this software with Spektrum dx6e controller? Will work ?
Yes, but you might need to buy Spectrums wireless USB dongle that you would bind to your transmitter. But it cost like $45.
Excellent video. Is there a similar one for Drones?
Thanks for the comment. I'm not aware of any free sims for drones though.
Where do I download it from for Mac???
You don't. This is PC only.
@@RCVideoReviews there is a comment down below. Someone got this for Mac for 7bucks. Or was it a different sim maybe? I’ll ask
Have tried to install on my iMac without much luck…some kind of file error!
when i start the program the image is flashing, and i can't see the plane, is there any fix?
Sorry, I haven't encountered and issue like that. Maybe reinstall or reboot?
I also have this problem :(
One of the other posts recommended turning down/off graphics textures.
Curious: Do those of you having the flicker problem have discreet graphics cards?
@@RCVideoReviews I have a gtx 970 graphics card
I have a GTX 1060 6GB with the latest drivers
Does the dongle work with all or most brands of transmitters? I used to use this sim many years ago, downloaded different models including dirigibles, etc. with Saitek joystick.
No, the Detrum dongle is for their line-up of radios.
Excellent stuff. I used my existing Fsi6X with it and works as I expected. The software isnt pretty but perfect for what I need it for which is just practice before going on the real thing.
Exactly. Software is just ok, but it can help you get your thumbs trained.
@@RCVideoReviews Just a question. I use the chase view in the software because without it, its really hard to see the smaller planes and their orientation. But I appreciate in real life you wont have a chase view. Do you think flying in chase view is in any way representative of real flying? (I've never flown before)
It is not representative of real RC flying. It’s entertaining when you know how to fly but it won’t tech you what you need to know about orientation and stick movement from a fixed point on the ground.
HOW?....i gave up trying to connect it to my fs is6x. although i am using the included data cable which worked perfectly on the clearview demo
@@thelaughingman79 I had the same problem, did you find another simulator that works ?
I like the look of this but try as I might, I cannot get it to see my Flysky controller, despite it appearing as a controller under windows! Anyone have any ideas?
So, where is the installed simulator located? I ran the setup application and I can't find in in my ProgramFiles, ProgramFiles x86, or %appdata%. Where is the file location for the sim?
Hi, I do not think they offer this SSW anymore.

SSW? The software is linked in the description if that's what you're referring to.
I got a message 'There is already another version of FMS installed on this system. Please uninstall it first" but i do not have any FMS in my pc. How to resolved?
Sorry, don't know the answer to that one. Maybe run the sim installer as administrator?
Hi, why my browser telling me this free simulator is harm for my pc
Probably because it's delivered as an exe file. If you're concerned, you shouldn't use it.
Dongle and software included.but your link doesnt work just go to site.
I keep getting a error message that says i have some corrupt file in the registry. Im unable to get past that. Using Windows 10.. Help anyone. Thanks
How did you get this to work on windows 10? I always get an error code.. won't even load the game
It just worked. I didn't do anything in particular.
Will the computer keyboard, instead of the RC transmitter, work with this free Flight Simulator?
It might, but that would kind of defeat the purpose of using a SIM which is to train yourself to use the radio interface for control of the aircraft.
Will this work with a Spektrum DX5e?
Can it use for every radio transmitter?
If your radio is recognized as a USB joystick by Windows it should work.
based on your reviews I got the radiomaster 16s, I'm a complete beginner, can you do a short vid on setting it up for real flight? or have one already?
The only way I've heard this can be done is by using the Real Flight radio as a master and the TX16s as a slave. I'm really not anxious to try and sort that out. I just use the RF toy radio for RF.
Got it ---thanks --looks like "Hold" is locked on the home screen?
Hold is locked?
@@RCVideoReviews --yes, sir--how do I unlock it?
Stan Werner I think that must be a reference to a throttle lock. There is no menu lock that I’m aware of. Try flipping all the toggle switches until hold goes away.
Hey brother. Can I use my own dx6 radio or do I need to buy a new one for it?
If your radio is recognized by the operating system as a joystick, you should be able to use it.
I want to fly an EDF jet so bad. Total newbie. Having a hard time finding cheap detrim gavin. Been playing around with phone RC flying sim app. Struggling with landings back on take off runway. Am I wasting my time with app? Has anyone learned to fly RC from app??
Will this work with the radiomaster boxer radio.
No
Can I use any transmitter with this program?
If Windows recognizes the transmitter as a joystick, it should work.
well I got everything operating with the exception of the Throttle, By the way, I am attempting to use the Helicopter version of this Sim, not airplane --- the throttle (channel 3 & 5) seem to operate backwards, when I attempt to reverse it nothing changes---any suggestions?
Stan Werner did you reverse it in the software vs on the radio?
@@RCVideoReviews how do you reverse it on the software?

Can i make somehow my radio comptible with farming simulator or arma? If it can control simulator.. How could i make it work with games?
The most recent versions of OpenTx and all versions of EdgeTX have. unique USB Identifier which should allow the radio to work as a joystick under Windows. I can't speak to specific sims.

@@RCVideoReviews Thanks for the quick response. I will check it out.
Jeff
will this work with a flysky fs-i6x. ive built a ft mini arrow an my first attempt at flying it was bad, i tried launching it 3 times an each time i felt like i wasnt able to get my hand back to the controls fast enough to be able to correct an take flight an each time it when up an straight back down with hard hits to the nose an the last one broke the right half of the wing off so that put a end to it for that day, i have it taped back together an have started building a different plane that i hope will be slower an have landing gear so i dont have to hand launch it so it will give me a better chance of learning to fly the things. but ive been looking into the sims an ive seen other use the flysky fs-i6x but not with this program so im hoping i can get it to work. if not would using a xbox 360 or ps4 controller work an be similar enough to get the feel for learning how to fly? thanks for the input an video.
If your radio is recognized by your computer as a joystick it should work. The other joysticks might be enough to help you develop the muscle memory, but you'll have to translate it. It might be like learning to drive a car by learning to drive a tractor. You'll probably get the gist of it, but it'll take a little time in the car to get smooth.
Also have the flicker problem. Setting to window doesn't help and when I turn off textures it looks like Apple II software running off a cassette tape. Wanted this for a friend about to buy his first model and was going to lend him my USB RC controller. Too bad. Would be nice it it actually worked.
Clearly this isn’t big budget software. The video shows it works but obviously there are issues. I was able to replicate and eliminate flicker with window mode.
Removing textures does look bad. I tried that too when I saw the first graphics issues surface.
PS There are some other free to try sims out there. I want to say Clearflight..?
Are there other planes on this simulator?
Yes
Hi is there a new link to download the simulator as the 1 in description doesn't seem to work
Some time ago my hosting provider restored a backup and lost all of the files I had on my server. I've been gradually restoring them when people tell me a link doesn't work. I've reposted the sim. Please use the link in the description.
Unfortunately I get a DirectX3 error and am not able to use the Sim.
Can you update DirectX?
Can the sim and joystick emulator work with a Microzone branded transmitter?
If your transmitter is recognized by windows as a USB joystick, it should work.
@@RCVideoReviews noted, thanks for a quick feedback!
I suggest the free PicaSim rather than FMS. Also, incase your TX were to happen to natively use 'direct input' protocol, for example like the FlySky i6x, then you would not need the physical usb emulator...for example since android supports 'direct input' we can control PicaSim directly with our FlySky i6x (with oem Sept 2019 firmware) just by plugging the i6x oem usb cable into a usb-otg port on our Nexus 7 but with Windows 10 we additionally need to run Xoutput from github to convert the 'direct input' from the i6x direct usb connection (ie. no physical emulator) into the Xinput that Windows 10 recognizes.

I don't know. If you can plug it in using whatever cables you have and it shows up as a joystick it will work with the simulator. I was able to plug my TX16S in with the standard USB cable and it worked.
The cable in the video is for DETRUM radios. It might--but is not guaranteed to--work for your radio. That cable definitely works for DETRUM radios.
@@RCVideoReviews thanks for the response. it this a special cable made by tx manufacturer or just a regular usb cable ?
I assume you're asking about the Detrum cable. The only answer I can provide is that it's made or sourced by Detrum to their specs so that their radios can connect to a PC and function as a Joystick.
That's the bottom line, when you connect, the PC has to see your radio as a Joystick. I have no idea if that cable will work for any brand other than Detrum radios.
Do you have a cable for your radio now? Have you searched for using your radio as a joystick?
