As KDH pointed out in his video on the Marshall sale, companies that produce a 'legacy' product that remains essentially unchanged over a period of decades eventually face a conundrum: They wind up competing with themselves because there's so much used product available at prices far below the costs of the new stuff. Impossible to know, of course, what effect this might have had on the decision to sell but we can be pretty sure the family decided against embracing the kind of innovation that would have opened new pathways for the company. I suspect the new owner will change that eventually -- just not right away. When companies make these sorts of announcements it's standard procedure to say they don't plan changes and for products with iconic status such as Marshall amplifiers that's doubly true. But those claims seldom stand up over time. As Steve says, we shall see.

Zound makes amp/speakers for Laptops etc. Not for guitar players. It sells at high margins and is obscenely profitable.
Jim Marshall two years before he died brought Zounds in personally and it was very profitable licencing their brand. Zound is the cash cow that is expected to supply the funds for research for new product for new Marshall amps.
