I always wondered how machines could crack pecans so perfectly. I still did not see it in this video.
ruclips.net/video/aK5AnViPkJ0/видео.html
Here's a good video that shows it
Oddly enough that’s probably a trade secret.
Around 14:30 ruclips.net/video/aK5AnViPkJ0/видео.html
Probably just too hard to get a camera in to look at the process, and the machinery wasn't designed to have a viewport.
@@planescaped that's my guess too, but the machine is probably also trade secret lol
I love pecans but I live in Tennessee and they're outrageously expensive. When I lived in Georgia, we had three pecan trees in our yard and we just picked them wherever we wanted. I miss those days.
Tennessee grows their own. Check your local orchard cheap prices
I have 3 in my backyard now... getting sick of them.
I live in Indianapolis and I have two pecan trees. I know you can grow your own in Tennessee.
@@NotMyWar Can't here because I live in an apartment complex and they recently passed a rule that we can't even have flower gardens in front of our apartment and everyone who already had one was forced to tear it out. If it can't fit in a pot, we can't have it and I don't know if you can grow pecan trees in a pot.
@@fubukifangirl yeah they are quite large before they bare fruit so they would not work in a pot. I wish you the speediest path to home ownership, so that you may have your very own pecan trees.
Northern guy: oh thats how they make pecans
Guy from texas: well hell i just pick em up in my front yard
*has loads of super machines doing incredible stuff*
Hires technicians to measure in jar and fill manually
i was thinking the same
@The Absolute Madman So they can put "hand-packed" on the label and jack up the price most likely
The Absolute Madman it’s filling work, at least
That's nuts!
It also serves as visual inspection. They're not just packing stuff, they make sure everything goes right.
machine approaches to shake the nuts, the tree: "be gentle"
This made me "crack"
those trees have a hard time in many regards.
why they also sweep away all the leaves?
leaves become the nutrients for the tree again.
btw pecans grow they're not manufactured
@@manus5423 there are very few leaves on the ground and nuts are the majority of the stuff down there, so don't worry, a good old shaky shaky won't hurt them ;)
That machine is truly a tree-hugger :)
Narrator : The Pecan's are dried for 24 hours to remove moisture as a high moisture content will spoil them.
Also Narrator : The next day, they soak the Pecan's in several water bath's to increase the moisture content.
Me : What ?
I know, its funny though and very misleading, the process is actually designed to have equal controllable moisture across all samples, thats why they dry first to a certain percentage then controlled process begins.
Perhaps to increase weight by gauging the consumers?
Dries for shipping,, then rehydrated at a factory
In multi unit bi-processing they have to dry then dehydrate them to reduce tri-linium di-ethylphosphate. In other nuts this trans numeric system isn't warranted due to high levels of ethyl bi-phosphene. Tri-linium di-ethylphosphate toxicity is dangerous not only to mammals but fish and insects too. They have to titrate out the moisture slowly i.e. 24 hours because exposure to air denigrates the phosphene molecules. When you buy them put them under a UV lamp. They glow if their tri-linium di-ethylphosphate levels are unsafe. All you have to do is to pay it tree fiddy open the door, get on the floor, everybody walk the dinosaur.
@@mailasun Thank you to the grammar nazi...
I never heard the word "pecans" so many times in five minutes.
29 times! That's like once every 10 seconds!
well except that they didn't say anything that was in any way like pecans, peck carns? I've never heard it said like that in my life! & yeh, SO many times in quick succession!
@@mehere8038, agreed! I pronounce them "pee-cans"

"south central north america" I had to turn my brain back on for a quick second to understand what he said
When somethin happens in south central Los Angeles, nothin happens...
So... somewhere in Europe.
basically south central America means Mexico. cause apparently Mexico isn't considered part of north/south America lol
@Das Berserker not so wrongly. Most people know what America is.
@@Clauds1005 it's "south central *part of* north america", complicated but accurate.
There must be an advanced security system to keep out the squirrels.
They should show Mark Rober how it's done.
There is, it's called BB gun! lol

Old school way: you crack a pecan with another pecan.
That works with paper-shells but those thick-shelled ones do require a rock or a nutcracker to crack them.
My grandpa can crack them between his palms, no problem
@@matthewhollier If they're the paper-shell ones, yeah. You get those thick-shelled ones, you gonna need a nutcracker dawg.
I find it works well with most pecans. It takes way more effort on seedlings and Stuarts than paper shells though. We must not have any super thick shelled ones around here.
Their are cheap nutcrackers for like $5. It’s more worth it to get one of those
Drinking game: take a shot every time dude says “pecans”. Have 911 on speed dial and may God have mercy on your souls.
just a minute from the video, you'd probably black out from your shots 😂😂😂💀
did you try the one where you watch Black Panther? Take a shot every time they say Wakanda or Vibranium. Some didn't make it past the first 15mins.
It's giving me anxiety, honestly!
Pecaahhs
That’s quieter talk.
I do wish there were at least a diagram of how the "two pistons" actually crack the shell. Obviously, having fine control of how close those pistons come together is critical to cracking only the shell and not the nut. That's what I was hoping to understand.
Pecan was an staple for food when your homeless and have no money. And there was a man in Virginia that had a tree overflowing and was glad someone to take and clean them up. Because he worked so much and for some poor it was an income. Now you can sit back and enjoy the fruits of your labour. But THANK GOD for growing them in its season 🙏 be fruitful and multiple
3:48 thats the HARDEST job on how its made ive ever seen lol
You can't freaking blink
Took a shot everytime he said "the pecans"
I'm drunk now
Great game, I'm dead now!
I got 3 pounds of local North Carolina pecans for Christmas 2020......pure JOY!! And they are Just HUGE this year!!
China is where pecans are manufactured. They shred old motorcycle tires, add plastic rice bits, blend in ground shrimp shells and tails, then inject the paste into silicone molds that look like pecans. They initial cook them over sewage treatment plant methane gas. Then they are airbrushed with artificial tanning solution while they final dry in the street behind the shop.
In the USA, we don't manufacture them. We grow them on real pecan trees then process them for sale to various markets.
I'm just so satisfied the narrator properly pronounces "pecan."
1:53 “pictures of the nuts are taken with cameras...”
*me to my brain...don’t say it”
Me; NICE
I had to scroll waaay too far down to find a comment about this. It's absolute gold.
I love pecans! Always snacking on them while i was in Mississippi! Love its earthy, nutty flavor. A fresh departure from wall nut. But both are delicious in its own right.
WALL NUT? really?

@@marct7905 (it was most likely autocorrect being weird)
@@madammonarch1 no because "its" is wrong
RUclips: That it, show them the Pecan video.
“A chlorine and water bath”. That’s the last commercial pecan I’ll be eating.
Benjamin Dover Stay away from fish at the market too. Get it directly from someone you know. They freshen it up that way. Fresh fish does not smell. If you can smell it, don’t buy it.
@@pattystone4157 Well, fresh fish does have an odor, but its odor is not nearly as strong as a processed fish and typically smells quite pleasant or at least neutral. Ocean-caught fish usually smell mostly of the sea. Freshwater-caught fish vary based on species and where they were caught.
If I had a dollar for every time the narrator said "pecans" I would have over 3 million dollars.
🌿 dang, I never knew! I just used to go out into the field, pick 'em up off the ground, squeeze two of 'em together to crack the shell, and munch away...
You were lucky to have the paper-shelled ones. The ones in my yard had the thick shells and you could hurt your hand trying to crack them that way.
yup. they tend to have an earthly smell and flavor, as well as a nice crunch to them. my thumbs were raw after a while

I grew up poor and we use to go to parks and along the river to pick up pecans we used this money to pay for Christmas presents and sadly for my parents dope. We use to use long cane poles and pillow cases filled with a few rocks to remove them from the trees. Then we would fill large burlap bags and take them to the buyer I love and hate those days. .... late 1970’s in San Angelo Texas
How it’s made: that air blower computer thing
I also remember as a kid having a bowl of mixed nuts 🌰
Cracking them open with nut crackers to eat them was all fun.
“Pictures of the nuts are taken with a camera”. 😂😂😂😂
I knew I had to come here and read the comments.
0:57 Absolutely brilliant idea!
Growing up, there were a ton of pecan trees in my yard, and our landlord ran a pecan processing plant in a building behind our apartment. I have very fond memories of helping him gather and shell pecans, watching in amazement as the cracked, shook, and vibrated the nuts into sorting bins. All you can eat pecans sure was nice!
These puns always make me chuckle 🤭
Maravilloso documental,gracias scienc chanel.
I adore pecans, they're so good.
All that so I can get my crunch on. Thankful for these peeps cracking my pecan treats.
Narrator's favorite word: pecans
It's "the pecans" lol
Pecans are not manufactured, but are processed Ga boy
Glad someone else caught this. Pecans manufactured?
I just love pecan pie!
I need those shaker to shake me from my illusions.
"How pecans are manufactured" LOL. They are grown on trees, not manufactured. "How pecans are processed" would be more accurate.
Absolutely correct. I came to the comment section to write those very words and read yours. 👍👍
This channel should be ashamed of not knowing that
IKR
I think they meant how they were packed
And here I thought they were talking about almonds. Totally different manufacturing and processing. Mounds have nuts.
Now that we know how they’re made, we need to know how to AFFORD to buy some
Do you think $6/ lb is expensive?
i live in south alabama and have 4 producing pee-can trees in the yard, i can't beat the squirrels to the nuts but they won't help with raking the leaves!
You go to the park in Brazoria and get a big bag every Pecan season for free.
We have NINE trees around the home place, Six of them over seventy years old; two are about forty, one is only about fifteen. One of the forty year olds is Papershell, the other is Mahan. Six of the old trees are Stewarts. The youngest of the bunch puts out HUGE pecans, easily half again as large as the Stewarts (It was a volunteer, so I don't know the variety.)
When I was a kid I didn’t have a fancy tree shaker, just overalls and a bucket, in 1988 I could fetch $15 bucks per 5 gallon bucket.. that was some serious cash to me... not to mention eating them as you picked
I need one of those nut shaking machines in my life.
This video will be my new drinking game. Everyone take a shot every time he says "the pecans" 🥂
I bet Sorrells Farms from Texas loves this video more than anybody! :)
Has tried some of those from Muji Japanese shop coated in milk chocolate, aam wonderful snack 👍👌

RUclips: Want to know how Pecans are Manufactured?
Me: BOY, DO I!
3:55 I can't imagine doing this 8 hours a day. You can't afford to even blink
I live in a valley full of orchards. Nuts aren't harvested until the leaves have fallen and we get a hard freeze to pop open the husks. That's late December or early January. The vacuum operators like to aim the exhaust toward apartments like mine leaving us covered in a fine layer of dirt, and chewed up leaves and twigs. Ahh ahhh chooo! 🤧
I love pecans 😍
I grew up in Georgia. I've had them raw, roasted, toasted, baked, fried, every way possible. But the best is a fresh cracked, off the tree.
Wow I liked the tree shaker 😎
We had a big pecan tree in the front yard of my house in Houston....each year it produced some of the largest sticky-gooey Pecans.....
Pecan butter, while expensive, is soooo freakin good
I love their taste!
Most underrated nut don’t @ me
I think the most under rated nut is the guy talking. 😎 Just sayin
As KC and the Sunshine Band would say, “Shake shake shake, shake shake shake. Shake your pecan tree!”
my all time favorite seasonal job. nothing like climbing big ass trees and beating it with an equally big ass stick lol
I imagine you can process a pecan, but what you learn how to manufacture a pecan, repost. That's right, I said the word...pecan, and I'll never forget it!
Thank you great video. I wonder the tree looks like thanks to your video now I know. Love pecan! Till then keep smiling with lol politely & safely with pecan
Wow! I like this show
Tnx
Why do they dry the pecans after husking them if the next step is to wet them down?
Rachael Schultz They want them to soak up that nasty chlorinated water to ruin the taste. I get a couple hundred lbs a year from the dozen pecan trees on my farm in Texas and I’ve never done any of that chlorine bath. Then again I don’t “manufacture” pecans, I grow em and eat em!! 😆
They are dried first to reduce the danger of fungus growing inside, and to firm up the nutmeat. Sometimes the growers harvest them a little early to outwit the crows and bluejays, which wait until the shucks are open.
And, Deano, they are not immersed long enough for the chlorine to penetrate the shell. No worries there mate, as the nuts with cracked shells are removed prior to the bath.
They're so good.I ususally only get them around christmas in their shells.
2:16 Sorts out pecans that are cracked.
2:36 *Pecan with HUGE crack in the bin.*
😂😂😂😂😂
Pictures of the nuts are taken with cameras. What kind of place is this...
; - )
David Diven lol lol they socked them too
Well the kind of place where pictures of pecans are not drawn with a pencil....i think it was really important to be precise ;-)
Fruit seed porn?
Nuts are the seeds of the tree's fruits.
Except for peanuts, of course. They are root borne legumes. The peanut 'shell' is basically the skin of the so-called 'Goober Peas'.
🍑🥜
Looks very similar to Almond harvest and processing. We use a lot of nuts. Time to cook.
This guy’s voice makes this show great
So they let the nuts dry for 24 hours, just to put them BACK in water to "rehydrate" them?! Yeah, that makes sense!
it does! this way they can be absolutely sure the pecans are the right moisture. just letting them dry would lead to inconsistency, which could lose them major customers.
1:51 legendary script
"Violently shaking to get the nut."

I'm sorry but when they started shaking the tree I LOST it
Lmao the video quality literally got memed when they were shaking the nuts to the ground

The Pecans are what made me watch this video
The first step-shake them the hell off the tree. That's so cute and funny ahaha

Pecans are healthy and delicious. Throw em in the oatmeal with a banana, cranberries, a little honey and a dash of salt. Or toast em in the oven for about ten minutes at 300 degrees. Best of all, for the finest peanut butter n jelly sandwich in the World, use the pecans for the crunchy, and add fresh blueberries to the jelly or jam, ummm, yum.
