    Kristie...I just found your channel by randomly looking for something completely different. I could not be more grateful that I did! I was hooked the minute you said you were making the cards for residents at a retirement home. First, I cried for a few minutes, then I decided to comment. My beautiful mother passed away on August 16, 2021 after a long battle with dementia and chronic pain. I was her caregiver and I miss her more every day. My husband has worked for the same senior living facility for the last 25 years. We moved my mother into his building almost 5 years ago. She was much healthier then and one of the things she loved the most was making cards for her friends within the facility. She would use stamps and color them, or use paper and stickers. Her eyesight was awful, but it didn't stop her from making her cards. The other tradition my mom started when she moved in there was to give homemade cookies to all the residents and staff for the various holidays. My mom made the most delicious chocolate chip cookies. Over the last couple years of her life, her health declining rapidly, she still wanted me to make sure her friends had cards and cookies. So that is what I did. Last Valentine's Day, I made about 100 cards and put each one with an envelope in a cello bag. I put them all in a box I decorated with a cute sign that read VALENTINE'S CARDS Please take 1, so everyone can have fun, sending a sweet note to a friend or a loved one! I told them that the cards were given by my mom, and that they were lovingly handmade by me (her daughter). I wanted both residents and visitors to take the cards and use them as they wished. The love and appreciation we both received was so precious. Two weeks after Valentine's Day, my mom could no longer walk at all. She went to the hospital that day, and then into long term skilled nursing care, never to return to her home. It was heartbreaking to clean out her apartment, but I am grateful to have inherited all of her stamps and supplies, and I am continuing her tradition of cards and cookies from now on. We recently moved to NC, but my husband just transferred facilities. The residents and staff here didn't have the pleasure of ever meeting my mom, but they will all know her name, through me, and my family. I am excited to be bringing cards and cookies to them on Monday! They loved the Christmas cookies!! Anyway, sorry this is so long, but your video just touched my heart and reminded me of my mom. Life is so hard without her. I love your cute cards, too!

      Susan what a beautiful comment. It is really sad to lose a mother and the pain never really goes away, but you are doing a beautiful tribute to her donating cards and cookies for the people in care homes. I am sure she would be very pleased with your gesture. Warm hugs

      Susan, thank you so much for sharing about your mom. She sounds like she was an amazing woman and obviously very loved. How wonderful that you are continuing to share cookies and cards to honor your mother. I know you are blessing so many lives. 💗 There are so many seniors that don't get regular visitors or mail. I'm hoping my monthly cards will bring a little bit of sunshine to their day. Everyone needs to know they are special and loved. I hope you are having a lovely day! 🌷

    Sorry to hear that you've not been well Kristie, hope that you're now well on the mend. Thank you as always for sharing your process for using 6 x6 pads. It does encourage me to use my paper and I have a lot, lol. I'm not as good as you but at least I'm using the paper. I never buy the ephemera that goes with the paper pads, but am getting by using stamps from my ever growing collection. Thank you , take care, Karen

    Hi Kristie. I know you've been doing these a long time, so you probably already instinctively know how much cardstock you'll need, but I wondered if you buy the cardstock to match when you buy the paper pads? Or do you have an extensive stash of cardstock that you pull from? While I tend to use mostly Stamping Up paper and cardstock, the coordination is already essentially done for me. But wondered about your own process, especially since you use a lot of 12 x 12 cardstock. Thanks! (One of these days I'm going to do a follow-along to build my stash. One of these days. lol)

    • @KristieMarcotte
      @KristieMarcotte  2 года назад

      I own a ton of cardstock so I always look through my stash first when getting ready to start a new paper pad video. If I don't have the right colors, I will take the paper pad with me to my local Joann's. There are still times that I just can't find the perfect shade though. Sometimes the colors in the collection just don't coordinate. I have to get more creative in those situations. Maybe mat things with specialty cardstock or white. Or don't use a cardstock layer at all.

    These cards are all so adorable! I love watching these type of videos from you! So glad that you are feeling better! I have a question! Do you hand out your cards individually at the nursing homes, or do you take them to the Activities Director, etc. for them to hand them out? I would love to start doing that for a couple of homes close to me. Thanks for sharing all of your wonderful creativity!

      I have the same sort of question. I was wondering if you hand them out blank so the nursing home residents can send them to whoever they want, or if you give them signed ...from you....to the residents? Either way, that's a fantastic thing to do.

      Thank you so much! 😊 I don't hand out my cards at the retirement homes. Most places still have restrictions for visitors. I give the cards to the activity coordinator and she passes out the cards to the residents. For holiday cards, I bring enough for everyone. But I also drop off around 30-40 cards other months. These are general cards given to those that may not get many visitors or mail. Just a little something to brighten their day. 🌞

      All of the cards I take to the retirement home are Happy Mail for the residents. I write a message inside every single card. Just a little something to brighten their day. Currently, the homes where I take cards don't have a need for blank cards. I would suggest asking if you are planning on donating cards.😊

    I love watching your videos! I find it very relaxing and inspirational to see you create so many cards at once. I was wondering ~ Do you put sentiments inside or leave them blank when you give them to the senior living center?

      Thank you so much! 😊 I add a stamped sentiment and also a handwritten message inside every card I take to the retirement homes. The cards are Happy Mail for the residents to brighten their day.💌

      She has a video where she details this. It is the one where she goes through the ins and outs of selecting a card sketch.

      Thank you so much! I do share the card sketches, with measurements, on my coordinating blog post. The measurements are for A2 cards and I don't always follow them exactly. I do have a video where I talk about how I select card sketches and add cardstock layers. ruclips.net/video/REbDcWFHu20/видео.html

    hi, do you always cut the pattern paper 4x5.25?

    • @KristieMarcotte
      @KristieMarcotte  2 года назад +1

      I almost always cut the background paper to 4"x 5 1/4". Then I'll add either 1/8" or 1/4" for the cardstock layer. But there are times I will cut the background to the full A2 size. It just depends on the pattern paper or image I'll be adding to my card.
