- In this crazy video I try and answer a question many of you asked - "Can you stop and restart the motors on the DJI NEO while in flight". This presented several challenges and wasn't as easy as I'd imagined. Kick back and enjoy the story of how I tried to prove, something crazy like this can be done.

I like your content. It's cool, funny and educational at the same time. I am still waiting for my drone (not neo but hoverair x1 pro) so I am trying to learn some basics before I crash mine :)

Maybe could have a supercapacitor inside it, on freefall, the neo acts as a wind turbine charging the capatitor and on sufficent charge and perhaps detect critical distance to ground, it could send pulses to flip drone, the free fall now spins agains props against direction the where spinning, once slow enough spin, pulse energy flips drone again and spins up the propellers deaccelerating the drone to a stop just before hitting the ground.

It’s not that well suited for racing - I did have a go once and after 2-3 minutes throwing it about fast pace flying it literally just went “nah I’m quitting” and went crazy.

Not with this drone unless you’re very lucky but other larger drones with more start up power “may” be able to do it
Maybe could get the cylindr8cal party balloons, blow, twist in semicircle around the neo, theen use rubber bands to bridge the toroidal balloon to the neo... creating a DODEGM NEO that safer to bump into staff and that can float on water.
Somehow I’m invisaging something that looks like a cross between Mario kart and a drone now 😂

No-one tested Neo as a cargo lifter so far. How may grams is it able to lift and carry? Maybe even an action cam fitted to underside to improve cam quality 😅
Is it possible to exchange default propellers with ones that have silicon tips to reduce noice?
@@stefw0200 watch this space 😜. Regarding the propellers I don’t think I’ve seen small props such as these with silicone tips before but due to the prop guards often these kind of drones (guarded, ducted etc) are just noisier by design.
One question can Neo track a person riding on bike from a little bit high altitude (using RC mode) than it normally allow us to do so, like other DJI drone track from little high altitude with some road and scenery in frame, I hope you understand what I am trying to say, BECAUSE neo struggle to track a person riding a bike if it is too fast for Neo but when we increase altitude, I guess it can track that because relative to drone the bike moves slower and will be in frame to track for longer....maybe or maybe not.
I think if it can do that that will create a good cinematic shot even if it is for small duration.

Did you try tilting the drone during free fall? Maybe the motors have enough power to tilt the drone, slowing down the propellers enough for them to restart
While the motors are in free fall and motors not powered yet, you have absolutely no control over the drone at all - you are basically just a helpless passenger 😂😂🤷🏻♂️
If you can't start the motors, how are you going to tilt the drone? The drone only has props, it doesn't have ailerons..
Could be good in very high winds as my Neo at low height setting was flipped over by a gust of wind, so in that situation, it would also probably work?
Also, you do know there is a setting in the app that makes the drone flash and beep if you crash it and can not find it easily.
@@gregb1599 lol yes unfortunately it decided to ask me to update the battery when it landed/crashed and I accidentally pressed yes…. Meant it powered down at the end. Didn’t take long to find though. If you find it drifting out of control due to wind and you have a soft ground- I’d say powering down if enough height (40-50m) and it should come down quick and most likely won’t take much if any damage
@dronewilder5234 Nah, I had no worry it was holding its position. I was using it as a drone only and low height setting, so maybe half a metre in height it was just funny that the wind flipped it over. Just thought that if that happened at 100 metres, then restart would probably work as in your video. To be fair, it was flying in gusts up to 45kph so well over its limitations.

You can set it in the remote controller setup menu and customise onto switch C2.

I found the autorotating behaviour/the way it drops is the same but regarding restart of motors I cannot say as I haven’t tested that
but what if you switch to sport, normal mode or press the brake button! I must know! :D
@@oscr_zen this is something I did try - once in fast freefall it won’t restart motors in those modes

@@oscr_zen it won’t even be able to start - if you can get the props started there would certainly be a chance for it to recover 🙂

How do you stop the motors? Just so I can avoid it.
@@Sky_High_Neo for FPV flying with the remote 3, you can assign motor stop to the customisable C2 button but don’t worry, it’s not assigned by default 😜

With the recent firm wear increase is it me or has the image quality improved, noticed I can now change sharpness and have “Pro mode” for iso, Ev etc
From using phone to controller for the first time there’s a distinct difference in image quality
@@Vividvisualsuk I can’t see those options available on the phone control even after firmware update but certainly in my experience video quality is better/more controllable when you use the rc-n3 controller and pro mode. Important I find is to keep iso fairly low.
@@dronewilder5234 yes sorry I just got the controller today, and that’s where I noticed a big jump in the quality
@@Vividvisualsuk the phone controller is pretty good for quickly placing the drone in a spot to take a shot or basic movements but the N3 controller will improve what you can do in leaps and bounds 👍
@@dronewilder5234 sorry one question have you tested battery banks to see if possible to charge the batteries in the case all at once ? So can get more overall flight time?
@@Vividvisualsuk I believe you need quite a high power output - 45 or 65watts I think to charge all 3 at once. Most battery packs should specify their maximum power output so if it can deliver this power then yes it’s definitely possible. Bearing in mind the low capacity of these batteries, a decent size bank should keep you flying all day 😅

Sorry for the stupid question but how are you stopping the motors in the first place? Is that one of the things you can program to a button?
In manual mode using the FPV system you can assign a switch to motor on/off - I don’t normally assign one though as I’m scared I’d accidentally kill the motors 😂😂
Pull both control sticks down and bring them together at the bottom of travel and hold them at that position (same movement as starting the motors with a controller)

@@dronewilder5234 ah ok so you’re using a custom button, not just putting the sticks together like how you start it?
@@scooteracers that’s correct - I find the custom button is a quicker more direct way of arming and disarming the motors in this scenario
