gosh! these comments!!! Why can't gymnastics "fans" ever just sit, shut up, and appreciate a gymnast who's put a lot work into accomplishing this and can do things 99% of people can't. Like honestly the negativity among the gymternet is just way too much. Who was better in your opinion is irrelevant to a competition that already happened. And shitting on a gymnasts work is just way too disrespectful, especially if you say you like the sport. I believe everyone can have an opinion and express it without saying negative things about a gymnast who can do so many thing well done. No one is perfect, everyone uses their strengths. And don't even get me started on people who haven't ever read the CoP talking about how a gymnast's score has to be deducted.
This routine wasn't overscored. If she hadn't made that error on her ariel, it would have been her best beam routine of the Olympics. Everything else was really solid. Gabby has a lot of deductions. Her switch ring gets hammered because she doesn't hit the position correctly. Like Aly, she has issues hitting 180 on her switch half. She also gets a lot of deductions on the dismount for low chest, steps on landing, and lack of height/distance. The deductions on her dismount alone equal or exceed the deduction Aly got for bending at the hips. Gabby also bends her legs slightly on the front pike, and her pike jump doesn't even come close to parallel. The deductions are definitely there. I also thought they gave Gabby some connections that were questionable (they probably incurred rhythm deductions).
I know gymnastics is subjective but to say that this routine was equal to Douglas is frankly unbeleiveable , that wobble on the free cartwheel could almost be 0.5 and the lack of extension on every move in comparison to Douglas is startling
this routine WAS overscored absolutely. her dismount alone should've incurred at least .600 in deductions. large cowboy(.300) flexed feet on roundoff(.100) flexed feet on patterson(.100) small hop(.100).... Flexed feet on every skill other than her leaps is at least .500 and that's being conservative (examples of flexed feet: front pike, roundoff, back-handspring, back-tuck, side-aerial ect.) the large pike in hips should really get her layout downgraded to a back pike but we'll say .100 for the hip bend. leg separation during layout .100, lack of split on her switch half .300... pike jump not parallel .100, balance check after side aerial .500, like were already at a 7.8 execution score and i'm not including EVERY deduction for the sake of this comment's length. but yeah you need to learn the code and beam deductions and you'll understand just how overscored this was..............

girl her split was exactly 180 degrees. Pause it or watch it in slow mo if you can't see it in real-time. Her hips were perfectly fine on that switch half. The only deduction that would be given for that jump would be non-parallel feet as you said.

Fan Yilin, one of the co-world champions on uneven bars in a four-way tie at the 2015 Worlds, is great at bars, but did not make it to the bar finals, while Aly Raisman later out scored Yilin in execution (despite the fact that it is known to be her weakest event).
Among the four world champs, Fan Yilin had the weakest execution. The problem with her Qualifications Routine was she missed so many of her connections, 2 I think. I agree Raisman was overscored on Beam and Bars. I think, however, Douglas' score was overscored on Bars and fair on Beam.
K P I know Aly Has the advantage on Gabby on Vault, FX and BB so I wasn't surprised she got the second AA spot but I was also very pleased with Gabby bouncing back super strong after struggling at P&G Championships and US Trials
Gabby didn’t look like she even wanted to be there ... At least aly was willing to enjoy her time in Rio and make the most of it . In my opinion , Aly getting chose for the AA was the right choice , she had the showmanship and enthusiasm that Gabby didn’t possess..😉🙄
I'm sorry but her leaps and flexibility are not far as good as gabby s every time she switches directions she never gets her legs up and I'm sorry but even if gabby had a lower start value on vault and floor her bars and beam were far superior plus her vault was clean
