Years ago, a close friend of mine insisted that I watch Mary & Max. It took me several years more before I got around to it - and of course it was everything I never expected it to be. So much painful humanity crammed into such a humble reel. About 30 minutes ago, I just finished watching Memoir of a Snail. I kept it together until the end. Here's to all of us who shed sad tears for the past and tears of hope for the future. Thank you, Adam Elliot.
Here here. My doggo was licking my tears while I ugly cried my way through the last twenty minutes. Beautifully written, directed, voice acted and animated....or claymated if that's a word...
Maybe inside out 2 will be the highest grossing of all time and winning Oscar because of Pixar biases but memoir of snail will be the best animated film of the year
I accidentally clicked on this movie and it was one of the best things that ever happened. I was bawling my eyes out as this film has made me realize about so many things in life. On how regret is the worst punishment a human can have so we just have to keep moving on with life by facing it head on.
I just got out of this movie and I have never openly wept so hard in a film. Top 5 best movies I’ve ever seen. This is literally the first time I’ve commented on a video to say how amazing this movie was.
I could NOT believe i would love it as much as i did. (Spoilers): When the church started burning down with her brother inside i was so busy bawling my eyes out i could only think “WHY? WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT? SHE LOVES HIM, SHE WAS FINALLY GOING TO SEE HIM. WHY ARE YOU DOING THIS?” I was BEYOND devastated, i bawled my eyes out so hard, having lost a sibling myself. And then when he finally showed on screen my jaw dropped and I was so ecstatic. This is the best film i have ever seen and the best movie i will ever watch, ever. This movie had me in tears and made me feel beyond joy.
I saw it last night. Whoever is reading this please go out and see this on the big screen asap you won’t regret it. Such a beautiful experience and I don’t think any other movie this year will turn out being as effective as it.
One of the best films I've ever seen. The character development, story, music all come together so well. Also the piano & string music is beautiful 😭 If you're reading this and even slightly on the fence about seeing it... this is your sign to go DO IT! 🐌
Just saw it yesterday with my girlfriend and wow. What a beautiful movie bursting with charm and love. The animation is wonderful, the story is a beautiful work of art, and the music brings it all together. Everything about this movie is just fantastic!
Just finished this... Grab the tissues folks. A dark, depressing and confronting piece of Australian art with a somewhat eat carpet feel. That brutal honesty delivered in a humorous wrapper leaving you with a slightly funny after taste, but you're still glad you ate it. The sort that Australian cinema does best!
i saw this at the ottawa animation festival and it became my favorite animated film ever up there with coraline. i haven’t bawled my eyes out like that in a very long time. we all felt weird afterwards and went to a party but left early since we were still affected by the film😭😭
I can’t wait for the cinema. Adam’d new release this looks and sounds magnificent. Everyone I know who has seen it loves it especially at the MIFF - doing the film festivals and released in October in Australia 🇦🇺
just watched yersterday and yes it became one of my favorites of all time! go watch and don’t forget the tissues ‘cause it will make you cry like a baby
Just got back from an early screening and wow, this might be my favorite animated movie of the year. Whimsically hand-crafted animation, fantastic vocal work, and a playfully vulgar sense of humor balanced with incredibly bleak storytelling. Seriously, if you thought Mary and Max was too devastating, you aren't prepared for what this film has in store. Also, just a heads up that it's rated R, and boy, does it earn that rating.
@@malcorub there are multiple references to sex and death, and has a scene of gay characters being electrocuted for their sexuality. DO NOT bring your ELEVEN year old to see this if you do not want them consuming that kind of content.
So happy adam elliot made another movie and very happy to have another stop motion movie to watch. Mary and max is one of my faves, im sure ill love this one too
Adam Elliot's credit should have said "Written, Directed, and Designed by" because if he does a feature film, he mainly does the designs of the characters and such, and doesn't do much animation.
Is it still going to open nationwide on October 25? All I see is a one-night screening on October 23. You don't even have a page for this movie on your website, IFC.
Since I watch this trailer there is one thing that the character Grace and I had one thing in command, her favorite insect is a snail and mine is a butterfly. But, I'm not obsessed with it and I don't have a collection about it. Sometimes obsessions' can cause trouble and you need to find a way to break out of it. If you have something you like or love too much what will you do?
I might see this tomorrow. Love the animation. I imagine it isn't going to be a pleasant film, meaning happiness and tragedy mixed, considering the girl had a cleft pallet. But, it's probably really good for what it is ($5 Tuesday at AMC, if that is still a thing; have not worked a Tuesday in five years, except when I was laid off... again).
The saddest thing is rabbits can and will eat snails. So the bullies are using her appearance and interest against her to be mean. I want to give her a hug so bad
"Childhood was life's best season it never lasts but everyone deserves one " ....Wow one of the best quote i ever heard

It's nice to see that the guy behind Mary and Max is still making films
And that stop-motion is making a comeback.
At least, I think this is stop-motion.
Yes it is stop motion
Still? Adam Elliot's been working on this for almost a decade.
@dijeshesjsichs6771 I guess I haven't been keeping up to date with this director
I would be surprised if this doesn’t end up being the best animated film of the year.
Maybe inside out 2 will be the highest grossing of all time and winning Oscar because of Pixar biases but memoir of snail will be the best animated film of the year
There’s also Transformers One and Look Back
@@mackielunkey2205
Or The Wild Robot.
I think ULTRAMAN rising is the best one this year in my opinion
If it's even half as good as Mary & Max, it'll easily take that.
Life can only be understood backwards, but we have to live it forwards - Memor Of a Snail
It's the director's favorite quote. Kierkegaard was the first to say it

Oh, this is absolutely gonna be nominated for Best Animated Feature. I can’t wait!
I'm gonna quote you on this.
That's what I thought about Mary and Max too...
It won awards though and got nominated at Golden Globe...however Flow is nominated as well and im thorn between two of them

I am fully bawling.
Mary & Max is my most favourite movie
Came expecting nothing and left with my heart on my hand. Such a beautiful masterpiece
Upvoted this because it looks original and I want more people making cool and risky films. Definitely gonna check this one out!
Seeing harvey Krumpet as a kid was wild , then mary and max as an adolescent was amazing, cannot wait for this!
Just saw it last night. Loved loved loved it so much
Going to cry my eyes out for sure 🥺
Less than 10 seconds in and already spitting straight facts
You mean Fakts.
This looks so good. Not too polished like Laika. Sometimes it's good to be reminded that you're watching a stop motion animation.
first movie i am exited to see in a lot of years. Mary and Max is such a good movie too.
I cried so hard with my partner watching this. This film healed something in me.
THIS LOOKS SO AMAZING. This look like the true magic of animation and storytelling.
Mary and Max was such an influential film for me, i simply cannot wait to see this
Can't wait to see it!
I still think "Mary & Max" is one of - if not THE - best film(s) of the 2000s.
Stop motion is timeless
I think I started tearing up every 15 minutes or so during this film Ngl
Wish i could find the soundtrack while i wait for this! Beautiful
Adam Elliot emerges with another Claymation! , this is going to be great , Mary and max was iconic

Harvie Krumpet and Mary and Max are top tier Adam Elliot movies. It’s nice that he’s a directing a movie with actual dialogue
I loved Mary and Max too. Some of my comfort movies.

@Coughdropeater agreed. I didn't see it until the last minute. Saw the animation and initially thought it was a kids film.
