    There's nothing wrong with a bollywood dance in a Miss America competition. Obviously she's embracing her heritage. No one said anything when past contestants did an Irish River dance on stage. America is and will forever be a melting pot of culture.

      Eh, I like the idea of it being a salad bowl over a soup pot. This is because a salad is mad eof of different flavors, textures, and colors that dont necessarily have to go together, but when done right is a flavorful and fantastic mix

      Europe isnt a melting-pot like America. Europe isnt one country, its countries want to perserve their own cultures. Especially small countries. Globalization through internet already caused some damage, young people are leaving their traditions. And I am saying this as a young person.

      @Arginne 3 года назад +1

      @@zajaiva5 we have our own unique culture and history in America dont belittle that. Most of us dont want globalist agenda. We still have values and traditions here.

    • @SuperCOCOPANDA
      @SuperCOCOPANDA 3 года назад +5

      @@Arginne Your ancestors were also immigrants. Culture is ever-changing and it's not like European culture evolved independently to the rest of the world, it was because Europe explored the world and interacted and observed so many cultures being the leading globalizing force of the time, that it became so culturally rich as a result. To think knowledge and culture is only created within borders you decide is simply idiotic.

      A América é como se fosse todos os países do mundo em um só continente por conta das diversas colonizações. Sou brasileira e diversos países passaram por aqui como os portugueses (nossos colonizadores) os africanos de diversos países da África (que passaram por 3 séculos de pura tortura até ganhar a liberdade através da abolição da escravatura em 1888 no Brasil) , japoneses (que vinheram pra cá no século 20 no início em busca de uma nova vida) , franceses (que colonizaram o meu estado e os holandeses tbm que ocuparam a região nordeste e trouxe prosperidade com a plantação de açúcar) , italianos , alemães ..... São diversos países que é incontável na verdade e não é atoa que o Brasil é considerado o país mais miscigenado do mundo , porque temos um pouco de cada país do mundo.

      Indian dances are hard? What about hip/hop and the dances people are doing these days? To be able to free your body and move like any way, fashion, or form because most dancing comes from joy, praise, expression, is NOT REALLY HARD TO DO IF YOU LET YOURSELF GO!

    • @howtopasstime
      @howtopasstime 10 лет назад +56

      Bernadette Bailey That's not what I was talking about. Indian dancing requires holding your arms, swinging your arms, moving your arms completely up for the whole dance. It's like trying to keep your arms up for an hour.

    • @daniellenichole2235
      @daniellenichole2235 10 лет назад +36

      Bernadette Bailey Not trying to start drama , but anyone can call themselves a Hip Hop dancer. Indian dancers, especially Bahangra as this young lady was doing, is very hard. One of the most hardest ethnic dances in the world. It takes years to master and hours of practice. You have to hold certain stunts that you do not have to hold in hip hop dance. I have a lot of respect for hip hop. But honestly, depending on the level, you can learn a Hip Hop dance in less than two weeks. Bahangra and Bollywood takes longer than just two weeks to learn and clean by counting by eights.

      Rachel Stoutamire Well spoken ma'am! I am half Indian and half German, living in Germany and I was shocked to read, she had to face racism after becoming Miss America. Comments like '9/11 was 4 days ago and she became Miss America'. I actually thought the US had gotten beyond that.
      There are so many Asian-Americans out there like Jason Scott Lee etc.
      She looks a bit like a mix of African and European ancestors to me, like Obama does. Except for the straight hair, she could well be mistaken for a 'colored American' (no offense meant!) I'd say.

    • @ScorpioBeauty

      Rachel Stoutamire Her parents are from Andhra Pradesh, a state in south India so she is probably dravidian. Dravidians share many similiarities with Africans and were according to many historians the first group to arrive to India from Africa. Unlike north indians, south indians are often stereotyped as studious and intelligent. North Indians are mostly a mix of dravidians and aryans(iranians).

    I proud to say that I had the pleasure of being with Nina Davuluri this evening (11/8/14) in Fort Lauderdale, at the (HAF) Hindu American Foundation gala dinner, in which I am a member. Her beauty is astounding and her personality and charm are gracious. She was an honored guest and speaker. I presented her with 3 custom hand-made jewelry pieces from India: "Bollywood dancer, Azure crown, & Equilibrium". As a personal gift from me, I gave her diamond earrings. When she performed this dance number, I knew she was the winner. Everything about her was unique and different from the other contestants. So glad I had the opportunity to meet her in person. God bless & protect you Nina. Good luck in medical school.

I do hope those that judge about country, skin and colour will realise what a beautiful country India is, not only India but every other race on Earth. Nina I love you so much for making a mark for indian immigrants in USA. I am an indian immigrant of second generation living in Europe. You make us so proud. Literally I had tears when you won it. I never expected that you had to face racism there as i thought USA is melting pot of all cultures. Atleast this became an issue of public discussion which is very rare in Europe

    • @SilentGlaceon94

      +tony thomas It is a melting pot of cultures, it's just that there are a handful that believe that the only "true Americans" are those who are of Anglo-Saxon descent.

      True Americans are native Americans who got killed and murdered by European settlers. Racism becomes an issue in USA. In Europe, it is rarely discussed about racism.

Those who wrote against her are uneducated, ignorant, rude, arrogant people who have not travelled outside thier country. India is # 1 Super Nuclear power with 1.3 trillion dollars surplus, # 1 as world's largest democratic country, # 2 populated country, # 1 with Medical Doctors, # 1 in IT field, # 1 in Fashion & # 1 with 2 million Engineers. As an Indian born/educated in India & living in USA, I'm proud of Nina Duvaluri as any other Indians. Long Live India.

    there are so many beautiful dance forms india has to offer and this is what we get..
    if you guys are wondering then search for bollywood/traditional dances done by madhuri dixit or sri devi, or even hema mailini.. u'll understand what i am saying.
    this is not a very good dance performance to be honest.
    i really tried not to be critical.
    but yeah i realize they aren't required to be a very good dancer though.
    she could have used a much better song than this.. this is very campy.

      Hey jackass she is not an Arab in the first place. India is not an Arab country u moron. India is the exact opposite of an Arab country. Even otherwise a person doesn't become a terrorist for being an Arab. Btw What about your ancestors who terrorised native americans?

      dre lol ancestral terrorists? who killed native americans? who made slaves out of africans? every ethnicity has its own minus points. even if she was arab, which she is not, stop hating people. we are all so very small in the universe so if some ignorant people do horrible things, can't blame the rest of the people in the group too

      ***** There are many Arab dense areas in India. Especially the area bordering Pakistan of course. Don't make a forced dichotomy. I don't even know where this argument about Arab and terrorists, etc. even began since I only see these 3 comments and spontaneous argument where there was not much of a hint of one in the first place. Just chill out and leave people's opinion on music alone and not bring cultural differences into it.

    • @anirudhkrishnamani
      @anirudhkrishnamani 10 лет назад +6

      Nickie Nguyen do you not understand the difference between an arab and a muslim?
      pakistan is not an arab country either, muslim yes but it's still not arab.
      arab/arabia= country
      muslim/islam=religion
      get it?
      i am an indian and i very well know my country and its culture.
      an indian citizen is an indian! not an arab!
