Paul wrote this about his steady girlfriend since 1963, Jane Asher, after an argument they had. She inspired "And I Love Her" "Here, There and Everywhere" The songs were not long so they would get radio play. Back then songs could be no longer than 2 min 30 sec, 3 minutes at the most, but if they went on longer, the radio station would just fade them out. Needed time for commercials and all the fun things the DJs did inbetween too. I was a teenager then and '60s AM radio was a lot of fun. The DJs themselves were stars and we loved listening to the things they said and did as well.

Another great song on their Rubber Soul album is Nowhere Man

one of Paul's greatest songs.... the opening guitar part is one of my favourite Beatles moments, and one of the reasons Rubber Soul is my favourite Beatles album

Yeah, man! Loved your reaction to this great tight song. Ringo and Paul are a great rhythm section. The songwriting on Rubber Soul is off the charts.

This was the album they started evolving, experimenting, and for me it was the big turning point and open door for what was to come, they waved goodbye to the pop era and became the masters of modern music

Nice reaction to Classic Beatles tune. Rubber Soul to me is the start of the Beatles run of excellent, all killer- no filler, albums. "I'm Looking Through You", w it's biting line, "You don't look different, but you have changed" shows growth. It continues + climaxes with Abbey Road.

I agree, every song on Rubber Soul is absolutely gorgeous and so ahead of its time in late '65. When this album was released I listened to it several times a day for months. It seemed to me to be an answer to the challenge of Simon and Garfunkel, with a more acoustic, folk-rock vibe, but just brilliant. I like the lineup on the US version more than the UK version, except for Nowhere Man, which could have been a hit if written today. I've Just Seen a Face and It's Only Love were on the US version and are 2 of the most beautiful Beatles songs, IMHO. In either case, Rubber Soul was a breakthrough album for the Beatles and the entire world of music at that time.

@@stuBdoc I Miss the FALSE START for "I'M LOOKING THROUGH YOU" that is on the U.S. RUBBER SOUL album. It is better with the False Start at the beginning!

If you’re curious about what a longer and weirder song would be try You Know My Name (Look Up the Number) or What’s the New Mary Jane? Both are meant to be silly. But strange.

"You know my name " was recorded over the span of 7 months. Occasionally john would get them all to sing the words " you know my name, look up the number ", every time doing it differently. The released song is a compilation of the best versions.

    Beatles Phase 2.
I grew up with the American version which in my opinion is the best version of Rubber Soul. What an album! American or British you can’t really go wrong. This and Revolver are just incredible albums.
    👍
The Beatles for me are like comfort food. Even Beatle songs I don’t like I like. The most important band in music history. Incredible. 😮

Good choice of song. Good reaction.
You might want to try the very early Beatles - something from one of their first 3 albums which are called "Please Please Me," "With the Beatles," and "A Hard Day's Night." Younger reactors tend no to choose their early stuff, but it's excellent and it's more pure rock and roll.

Great reaction. I think I may have requested this before. If so, forgive me. I wish you would react to Revolution #9, the strangest Beatle track of them all. Even if you hate it, you’ll see just how experimental The Beatles were. Thanks.

Good track, but only one of many before they became more experimental. Like others, it was Lennon/McCartneys silky harmonies that hooked me .

Ringo had no part in this tune, the percussion is all Paul slapping his knees. This has been known for many years.

    • @strathman7501
      @strathman7501 6 месяцев назад

Has it? Drums are very clearly audible. The sources I know (e.g. Beatles Bible, Beatlesebooks, Wiki, Lewisohn etc) have Ringo on drums for this track. Ringo did add some exotic percussion in the form of tapping a matchbox with a finger, but I find no mention of McCartney's knees (although i think they did this in I'll Follow the Sun, and maybe elsewhere).

The original recording two false starts. There was some charm to it so I have no idea why it was removed.
This song's lyrics were also used at one point as evidence that Paul is dead. The only problem is that Paul wasn't supposed to die for almost another year according to the conspiracy. Oops.
