If you've been listening to the stereo version of 'Your Mother Should Know,' get ready to experience something refreshingly different. Or perhaps I should say, different from the radically mixed vocals of the original.
In this remix, Paul McCartney's lead vocal is now consistently centered throughout the entire song. The 1967 stereo version had his smooth, slightly crooning vocal style bouncing between the left and right channels like a ping pong ball. While such experimental mixing styles were accepted during the diverse and adventurous era of the 1960s, this approach has fallen out of favor over time. My remix offers a more conventional placement of the lead vocal, allowing this wonderfully nostalgic song to shine without unnecessary distractions.
Beyond centering the lead vocal, I’ve reimagined the stereo stage to enhance the listening experience. The backing vocals have been separated across the stereo field for added clarity and depth. The piano now enjoys a wider, more balanced presence, while the Hammond organ, which originally sat in the right channel, takes a central spot, drawing more attention to its melodic contribution. McCartney's exceptional bass line has also been raised in the mix, adding more weight and groove to the track.
Creating the accompanying video was a unique challenge for me, as I’m not a seasoned video editor. However, I thoroughly enjoyed working on this project. Watching Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers dance so gracefully to 'Your Mother Should Know' felt like magic-as if they somehow knew this song decades before it was written! Their timeless elegance beautifully complements The Beatles’ musical brilliance, making them the true stars of this video.
Importantly, nothing new was added to my remix that wasn’t part of the original recording. This is purely a de-mixing and remixing of the existing elements, presented in a style faithful to the era in which it was created.
As always, thank you for listening. It's greatly appreciated!
Lennon referred to these McCartney ditties as granny music. If so, this is my favorite of Paul's granny classics! Beautifully mixed!!
Thank you! This music demonstrates the diversity that The Beatles embraced, an asset that always kept them fresh back in the 60's. Thanks for listening!
Forget Honey Pie, forget When I'm 64, the one Paul Granny song I do like, and like a lot and here it is. The brief instrumental bit at 1.30 is Beatles magic , very 1967.
I had the very same thought about the instrumental bit!
Paul is a multitask music man, so he write Here, There and Everywhere, And I Love Her or For No One so he write Your Mother Should Know, Honey Pie or When I'm Sixty- Four, so he write Helter Skelter, Why Don't We Do It On The Road or I've Got A Feelinh
@@britt2001bno getting away from the fact that despite us loving them both, Lennon was jealous of his image being more popular than his for the mainstream and it did last through most of Wings success too.
Gilles Martin fired!
This is what every Beatles fan was looking for
Great job!!
Thank you very much! I think when the official team gets around to remixing this, it will be somewhat similar with the lead vocal centered.
@@britt2001b He already remixed the MMT soundtrack in 2012, for the re-release of the film, and he did quite an excellent job. Lead vocal was indeed centred!
@@britt2001b Perhaps; yet no doubt the bass will be way too loud. you're version is perfect.
I agree. It seems Giles likes muddy and flat over crisp and clear !!! @@craigphillips6308
Great work; Crisp and clear. Sounds lovely. I've been waiting 45 years for this.
My Nan's favorite Beatles song. Long gone now but always reminds me of her. Cheers Paul for your Granny songs.
Your Nan should know. 😊
Thank you so much to make my dreams come true!!!
I never understood why not to put the singer at the center.
God bless you all!!!
The Paul vocals shift from left to right and back was cool in the '60s.
Que tiene esta banda que nunca me aburre y cada vez me gusta más...
Genialidad y un sonido con un sello muy particular.
Another Hit from The Britt! One of my favorite McCartney tunes from Magical Mystery Tour. Thank you!
It's my pleasure, thank you!
Another Hit from the Britt - nice Richard - got to remember that, very good well said !
Paul... probably the most melodious bass player in all of modern music. Simple genius...
Fred, Ginger and the Beatles! Love it!
Fire Giles. Hire you. Remix the entire catalog. Great job, my friend. This is what we want their revisited releases to sound like.
Thank you! As a 15 year old in 1967 just discovering stereo (this was the first Beatles' stereo album that I purchased) I liked the back and forth panning but over time it just became a distraction. I appreciate your listening!
Wow, by centering the vocals and raising the bass you've added a new energy, almost a wetness to the mix. That signature PMC bass sound is glorious! Thank you!!
Thank you! I'm glad you recognized the wetness of the mix. This is my first analog de-mix as I used a vinyl record as the source in which I was hoping to create a mix with more body. My source was the German Horzu release which always sounded nice to me. Thanks for listening!

Merci ! Oui, je suis un fan passionné des Beatles depuis 1964.
A fresh remix to a familiar song. Perfect.
Simply perfect! 😊
Thank you! Glad you think so!
You do magnificent and tasteful work. You bring out the best in Beatles recordings and what's most important you do it with great care! I'm one of those who
usually stay in the background and don't comment yet appreciate it. Well, for whatever reason I felt compelled after watching this video to belatedly express my feelings. You are greatly appreciated!
And your listening is greatly appreciated! Thank you very much for your nice words, they are also appreciated.
Excellent remix along with a nostalgic, creative video.👍
Paul has such a knack/talent for writing songs from a bygone era preceding the 1960's.
The video compliments this while the mix enhances the clarity and distinction of instruments and vocals.
Thank you again for another well-crafted gem! 💎
It's my pleasure, thank you! I enjoyed working with the video on this one.
Beautyfulest song!
I love beautiful dance of boys at performance 💚💖🤩
Especially Paul dancing 🕺 wonderful ❤️🤩

Your mixes sound so much clearer and cleaner. Keep up the great work!
Thank you!
GREAT !! 😁 I ❤THE CENTERED VOCALS. 👍😉 THANKS BRITT !
Thank you! Glad you agree with the centered vocals and thanks for listening.
NICE!!!
We need a Magical Mystery Tour remix, with a proper 180 degrees soundstage. It's not a proper album, but it is an amazing collection of songs.
At 60 and since I was 15, I have always been moved by listening to this song, but especially the interpretation of Paul which is so expressive. The very nostalgic arrangements also add a lot of emotions to this title which takes us back to times that were careless ... Thank so much of France !❤
You're very welcome! Thank you so much for listening.

Loovely! Really appreciate your work! Still have my old vinyls but this is SO refreshing!
Thank you very much! This was actually sourced from vinyl, the German Horzu version, a great sounding record. Thanks for listening!
I've always loved this song... Ever since i heard it for the first time on vinyl... There was something special about that pressing, so dreamy.
Lovely how your mixes unearth things in the songs I haven't heard before the last 40 years. Thank you!

This amazing beatles song
I have always loved this one, and your remix is exceptional! Beatles songs are so complex, with so many moving parts, and this remix enabled me to hear them like none other.
I'm glad you're hearing new parts with this remix. Anything new associated with The Beatles is a good thing! Thank you for the nice comment and thanks for listening!
So clean. I have never heard it better.
Thanks! Glad you're listening!
excellent!
Thank you!
Also, I liked the part where they included Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers, and the other 1930's and 1940's Dancers into the Song and Video! EXCELLENTLY DONE!❤😊
Thank you! I'm glad you watched it and glad you liked it.
Thanks again for all you do, Britt!! You bring a "'freshness'" and "newness" to these great old songs that still keeps the Beatles as relevant as ever. I'm no recording genius, but 25 years ago a few years after the Anthology recordings were released I finally decided that I had enough material along with some bootleg recordings i had on cassette from the '80s to "recreate" the Beatles' albums from Revolver on up thru Let it be. I did this on cassette, by using bootleg and alternate takes to create " new" versions of the albums same songs, same order but different takes. They came out AMAZING. There were a few songs i didn't have alternative versions of, so i used the originals. I still have some copies of these I occasionally listen to. But it pales in comparison to what you have done. Thanks again so much and keep up the great work 👍 you are GREATLY appreciated!!! George B from the Boston area.
You're listening is greatly appreciated. Thank you so much for the nice comment!
I didn't expect this song, but thank you so much. The original stereo is a mess
You're welcome and thank you! Yes, this wasn't high on my to do list but I couldn't resist re-calibrating the strange original mix.
I Love coming to this channel and finding a new Beatles remix. Excellent work, very thankful you are taking the time to do this........Just one Question,is Free as a Bird and Real Love on the agenda.....once again Thank you!
Thank you very much, I'm glad you're here! I believe we'll be hearing a nice 'Now & Then' type of official remix of both of these soon.
Love the Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers in here and this is one of my daughter and I
fave songs. as I always sang to her. One of my faves from the Magical Mystery Tour, you keep doing these amazing mixed and videos. so much dedication
It was difficult to focus on the production of this video as I was so drawn to Fred and Ginger's graceful performance. Thank you for sharing your heartfelt comment. I appreciate your nice words.
Just great. 😢 I'm old and not going to be around much longer. Where did it all go?
Sooo good!! I went back to listen to the 2009 version after this and couldn't make it half way through. This is far superior!!
Yes, the ping ponging of the vocals is distracting. I'm glad you compared the versions and glad you liked this new remix. Thank you very much!
Wonderful. I think the piano sounds clearer too. BTW I love Fred and Ginger in the video!!

Very cool channel! Nice to hear new mixes
Thank you!
I've always like this style of Paul's songwriting - along with HONEY PIE and from his Wings era MY BABY'S REQUEST, YOU GAVE ME THE ANSWER - songs that could have been recorded by Fred Astaire in the 1930's - they are also fun to play on the piano as I do along with MARTHA MY DEAR - what a gift for melody Paul has - incredible how he can write a Your Mother Should Know as well as HELTER SKELTER - man is a genius, the last of one of the great originals, God Bless Paul and his family! PS- thank you for another GREAT re-mix BRITT
You're most certainly welcome and thank you! Thanks for sharing your nice comment.
I love your pared back versions of their songs. I was 12 when they started & have loved them all my life even when it wasn’t fashionable to like the Beatles. Great music thank you 😊
My pleasure and thank you! I was 12 also when they first hit the airwaves on the Ed Sullivan Show here in the States in 1964.
Fun Fact: That footage of Fred and Ginger was used to rotoscope the Lucy in the sky sequence in the movie Yellow Submarine
I did not know that! It is a fun fact and thanks for sharing it!
I just say, again, Thank You! Never stop this.
My pleasure. Thank you for listening!
Another exquisite piece. Ta, very much. 👍👍

It's my pleasure. Thank you very much for listening and thanks for your nice comment!
Nice job audio and video
Thank you!
I am behind on my comments to the magic of your amazing remixes, so I will start with this one. Centering the vocals from the start makes the vocals clearer overall. I have US Magical Mystery Tour in Mono that I purchased in 1967 (dating myself) , then some years later, purchased the Stereo version. The US Captiol releases often put the vocals hard left on the stereo versions, which always sounded a bit "off" to me, particularly when listening to widely separated speakers. This song was particularly annoying with ping pong left right as you mentioned. I actually preferred the mono version better...before this amazing remix. Many thanks again for this amazing work, your efforts are so appreciated. I also love the video track you include, which is in itself a work of art. Very cool how you catch an "older Paul" signing to his original recording.
Thank you for your very appreciated nice words! There is no official footage of Paul singing this song other than the dancing video from Magical Mystery Tour so I took advantage of an 'older' Paul adding to the nostalgic theme of the song. This was taken from an amateur home movie in 2013. The close-up shots of the hands on the keyboard are actually Paul's filmed in 2023 and of coarse the Magical Mystery Tour footage is from 1967. The video makes for quite a time machine. 'Magical Mystery Tour' was the first stereo album that I purchased by The Beatles. Up until that time back in 1967 all others that I purchased were mono. I was fascinated with the stereo movement in your head when listening with headphones, which I did quite often to respect my parents wishes.
@@britt2001b Regarding the images of "older" Paul, I incorrectly stated he was singing the song in those images, and should have stated that he appeared to "miming" the lyrics. My apologies. and thanks for clarifying . The videos add so much dimension and fun in listening to the music.
Like you, my first Beatles albums were all mono. The first stereo record I owned by the Beatles was the US Revolver album, which I received as a Christmas gift in 1966. I still have it and save for the frayed edges on the Album cover, it's in very good condition.
I really like how the lead vocal is mixed in the original mix, the 2012 Mix is meh, but you nailed it!
Thank you!
goooooood✌️🎉
Would you remix early genesis albums? Those with peter gabriel that have been completely shattered by the 2008 remixes. It would be awesome to hear them in such way!

@@britt2001b I meant just a side project, a bit of fun, a combination two songs, I can hear it but don't have your skill set 🙂
Very nice mix indeed. Paul's voice is still double-tracked which is not very traditional but I don't mind.

Thank you so much. You are doing such a wonderful work with these great Beatles songs. Could you possibly remix my favorite Beatles song ( I think), "I'll Be Back"? Please consider this song. Thanks. :)
Thank you very much! I have considered it and hopefully will be working on it at some point.

Giles Martin's 2012 remix on the MMT Blu-ray has centered vocals. It's a very nice mix.
Wonderful work.I would like to listen a remix of The fool on The Hill,Magical Mystery Tour and Hello Goodbye some time in the future
Thank you very much!
It was done right the first time.
Great. Notice there's no kick drum ?
That was Ken Scott's first major session as an engineer and he didn't turn the kick mic on....
I did notice this. That explains why my de-mixer didn't pick up a kick drum. Thank you for this fact.
Great mix. For some reason the backing vocals drop in volume when they come in espeacilly after 1:07 and beyond. It sounds like you used a lot of limiter or compressor at that point , I don't know but I know you have to contend with the heavy bass guitar overpowering everything. Usually when I run into this problem , I never use compressor or limiter , what I do is lower the volume on the whole song then I compress the heck out of it then I put the volume back up close to the wall where it don't peak. It makes the song have more distortion but it has power to it.
Thank you. I very seldom use compression or limiting as it's pretty much already baked in from the original. But because I didn't get clean separations of the backing vocals, I had to play around with the phasing to pull them apart without nullifying the lower harmony background in the center. This made me have to adjust the volume levels many times throughout the mix. I know I didn't get it always right so I'm sure this is what you're hearing.
@@britt2001b Yeah , thats what I was thinking too because of the seperation you did. Try putting hard limiter on the final mix and see if that works , limiters are not that great in the first place but it might work. The other way which will really work but tedious is put all the seperate tracks into a DAW or Studio One software which I use and then use live automation on the vocal tracks and use you ears fix the levels. The live automation is pretty cool and the faders can be adjusted manually while you listen to the song and then then fader moves will be recorded for final mix , it's like the old days when I use to master with tracks with analog recorder , those were fun days and mixes , ha ha
@@danielbanic3738 I'll try the limiter on the final mix, thanks for the suggestion. I found that adjusting the gain by the visual on the daw with out of phase tracks just doesn't work. Your ears are totally necessary here.
@@britt2001b All my life I always used my ears in every phase of the recording process , it's the only way to go.
@@danielbanic3738 Good advise! Thanks!
It is hard to see John having much if anything to do with the writing of this song, as it seems very much a Paul song, a sort of precursor to "Lady Madonna."

Love the mix. Possibly your best yet. I usually have my eyes closed when I listen, but I love the Fred and Ginger vision. From where is the vision of latter-day Macca singing it?
What's always puzzled me is what sounds like a sitar at the end. Did you find it elsewhere in the mix?
The Beatles History site suggests it could be a tamboura.
Thanks, I'm glad you liked this mix. I grabbed the visual of McCartney from a RUclips posting of his performing this song in 2013 at Winnipeg. The sitar, or tamboura, sound at the end is where it's been all the time. I used the German Horzu version as my source which seems to not fade as early as other versions. Perhaps this is why you're hearing it different. The Horzu release has always sounded much better with excellent clarity, this also could be the reason. Thank you for listening!
I've always heard it, but it's odd that it only appears at the end.
One of my favorites from the Magical Mystery Tour album. At the time I enjoyed it more than Sgt. Peppers.
This great! But I wonder whom the pretty woman is with the red hair and the red furry wrap is that's shown twice dancing to the song, with the pretty smile on her face?
Thank you! I don't know the actress's name but she played the stripper that John and George were watching from their film 'Magical Mystery Tour'.
excellent work as always, mate. From the original, is Paul's voice double-tracked, or is it John at a slightly lower level? Curious if you know..Thanx!!
Thank you very much! To me, it sounds as if Paul double tracked his lead vocal and John is adding a lower harmony that I left in the same space just under Paul. John's lower center harmony is part of the three part harmony with the higher on the right and the middle harmony on the left.

Thank you. I hope it pays well!
What do you use to make your mixes?
I use RipX for de-mixing and Audacity for the re-mix.
You doing really great work, I mean entire channel videos.
But this one just a little overmastered.
I hear resonances with belly sounds and hihats.
Thank you for listening!
Enjoying Paul's centered up-front vocal...I don't think Ringo would be happy. What happened to the drums?
The drums just don't have much presence on this recording. I slightly boosted them but it didn't seem to add anything to the mix. He was playing brushes on the demo versions. Another commentor pointed out that the sound engineer even forgot to activate the kick drum mike which I can verify as my de-mixing program found no kick drum at all. I'm glad you enjoyed the centered lead vocal.
What program do you use for your amazing video presentations?
I use Microsoft's ClipChamp. For background elimination I use CapCut. I appreciate your watching. Thank you!
Great remix but mono is king for me
Thank you.
Isto é o mesmo que querer retocar a Monalisa com uma pincelada de amarelo.
Paul's voice sounds slowed down.
