My grandma used to wrap some uncut porridge oats into a muslin bag and put it into my bath when I was a kid, as I had excema. Very soothing.

Great video! I was not aware that colloidal oatmeal had all of these benefits. I can't even explain how much money you have saved me since I have started watching your channel. The products you recommend not only work better than the stuff others try to peddle as the next can't live without product, but they save money and they won't harm my skin. With the knowledge you impart, I know good skin care isn't just for the rich! Thanks!

For a bath, I've always put a cup of plain, rolled or quick cooking oatmeal in a panty hose & tied the ends off. Run bath water over it. Squish it & swirl it around in the water and use it as a bath sponge once you feel that viscous texture coming through. I do rinse off. Then you can drain the tub without oats going down it. If you have a severe skin issue this might not help. It's soothing to my skin but I don't have a severe skin issue.
Edited to say that you could buy the plastic bubbles that have knee high hose in them in the hosiery section, inexpensively.

When my 3 small children had chickenpox they suffered terribly with itchy scabbing lesions. I used to put oats in a leg of a stocking, tie a knot in the end and dump it in the bath with them before bedtime. It made the water lovely and slippery which they loved and helped their skin enormously. They had no scaring or disrupted sleep through itching as a result.

I discovered colloidal oatmeal last year and it’s what saved my skin and cleared it up completely. Aveeno’s moisturizing bar with oatmeal used to be AMAZING but they changed the formula unfortunately and the ingredients don’t seem to be as good. But I’ve also been making my own face mask with colloidal oatmeal for about a year now and it’s truly amazing!! I’m glad to see a video talking about this

i stopped buying store products for skincare and have gone online to research DIY alternatives. oatmeal has become my #1 miracle kitchen ingredient.
i grind the quick oats into fine powder to use as cleanser on face, body scrub (mixed w/ brown sugar, sesame, coconut & olive oils and tomato or lemon juice: this i've been using as soap, exfoliator and moisturizer all in one. it takes off the chlorine from my avid swimming. key is to shower with cool water. yes, it's a bit messy but your skin will be smooth w/o need for lotions.
since learning dr. dray's double clense, i use oil first then oatmeal.
in baking, oatmeal flour replaces white and wheat flours in all my recipes.

When my daughter contracted chicken pox when she was 5 years old, I bought a box of the Aveeno oatmeal bath treatments. Once she was better I still had a few packages left and I thought I'm going to use this for a facial mask , I very much liked it and my skin look great.
That was quite a few years ago and I've kind of forgot all about it but thank you for reminding me , I'm going to pick up a box of oatmeal bath packages and start using it on my face as a mask.

One more question, if I may? I have been hearing a lot about centella asiatica in skincare. Years ago I took CentellaVein for vein health. I have started taking it again. If taken internally, will it help the skin and in what way? I have contacted both Solaray and Laura Geller who has a primer that contains c.a. and no one has an answer. Thanks a million.

This is fabulous information! Thank you for telling us about more uses for this. Of course, have many times used it in a tub soak, and always helped my skin tremendously. I have made mask treatments but did not use the sheet mask application. This would be so much easier, and far less messy! Thank you so much. One of the few things that i could always count on to sooth roseacea flair ups, and also itchiness from just being in the garden, working. Even with gloves and all skin covered up, would still have irritated skin, and an oatmeal soak always worked. I now also understand why my skin felt “cleaned” even after just soaking. You are so kind to share your knowledge and insight. Thank you, Love all your videos!

I tried this exact same mask with 2 tsp Aveeno Colloidal Oitmeal Bath, the disposable sheet mask and the silicone overlay mask on top and let it sit for 20min on my skin. As I didnt know how my skin would react I rinsed it off with the Toleriane Cleanser by La Roche Posay and put Vanicream on, which is the only moisturizer my skin tolerates at the moment. Let me tell you my skin: I have dry skin, due to thyroid illness, probably rosacea, as I have red irritated, flushed cheeks, sometimes with little pimples, and my cheeks reacts to basically everything since I got an allergic reaction there to Ducray Delulal DS with zinc pyrithione, which I used in hope it would help for my red cheeks. And this diy mask was wonderful! Very soothing! My cheeks feel so much calmer, my overall skin is moisturized and soft. The redness on the cheeks is minimized. Its not completely away, but I hope to get it completely away with continued use. Dr Dray, how often would you suggest to use this mask? Thank you Dr Dray for this video! You are so generous to give your incredible knowledge to all of us and even respond to our questions! I am very grateful!

Maybe some time, when needed, have a prop board with you, just an idea of some bullet points. Wow, you are truly on board with oatmeal, "made the right way". I love the Aveeno Eczema Therapy Moisturizing Cream. I don't have eczema but am a post menopausal woman struggling to get HRT just right. This means my skin often gets dry and irritated more easily. I will simply moisten my face with plain water and then put this on top. It is so soothing and never, ever irritates me where sometime others face creams can. I remember when my kids were little (we have 6 of them) they all got chicken pox at the same time. I would put oatmeal into a sock and run a bath with it (use it like a tea bag) and would bathe the girls all together and then run another one for all the boys. It really helped with the itching and irritation of the chicken pox.

Another great video! I grew up taking baths using colloidal oatmeal as well for hives, but bites, and (heaven forbid) sunburn. Thanks for the reminder to stock up and the idea to use it as a mask.

Tried a lot of Aveeno products that you always talk about and they are awesome. Very gentle never burn or sting my face or body. I would never have tried these products on my own but heating you talk about them I picked a few while at Walgreens. They are as good as you said. Thanx Dr DRay I love them and would never have tried these on my own. I will only use what you recommend now and will not take anybodys elses recommmendations

I LOVE my aveeno baby colloidal oatmeal. So cost effective and helps literally overnight the peeling and redness on my face. My seborrheic dermatitis lesions around my nasolabial folds also calms down significantly. Dr Dray, I saw in one of your videos that you were trying out the La Roche Posay lipikar cream. I was wondering what you thought of it and how it would compare to aveeno?

That's where the Derma-illogica colloids oatmeal mask tubs come useful. Gigantic tubs available on Amazon in UK. Thanks for the tips on those sheetmasks. I've been struggling to find a way to keep the oats longer wet (I've read that's the best way for it to be active...).
Now I've taken to using the oatmeal in the mornings in a bit of water as cleanser and just rub a tad gently...not sure this is what you meant in the first bit of the video. Would appreciate more tips on the various uses (e.g. I've read that it's not so active or beneficial when dry?). My skin loves oats!

I developed eczema on my face a couple of years ago at age 54 after a very stressful time in my life. It is particularly persistent and itchy, painful, and crusty on my upper and lower eyelids, and under eye area. It gets so inflamed that is actually really affecting my life. I am not going to use hydrocortisone cream anymore, it just doesn't work for long, and I don't think it should be used around the eyes at all. After watching this video I decided to try the Aveeno colloidal oatmeal. I will try it for the first time today and let you know how it works out. Dr. Dray, if you have any other advice for me it would be greatly appreciated.

If someone has an allergy to edible oatmeal, how likely is it that they also have an allergy to topical oatmeal? If someone was told that they have an allergy to "oatmeal," should they avoid oatmeal-containing skincare products as well, or is there a discretion between the two?
