  • We take a look at an old granite quarry on the property of a dry stone wall workshop participant. In the 1800's small quarries like this one were common in many areas of New England.

    I live on Cape Ann and walk the old quarries frequently...always interesting...lots of history. "Hammers on Stone" by Barbara Erkkila is a terrific book about the granite industry on Cape Ann

      Hi Gary, I'm an old New England stone worker and one of my most favorite books is the one you mention by Barbara.
      I found it remarkable how much she knew about the stone trade. Regards....Doc

      @@GaryT1952 My wife and I passed through Cape Ann area some years ago and I did manage to find the big stone arch. I walked under it and looked up in amazement ! .......Doc

      @@dr.durellshepard398 That’s in Rockport at the Granite Pier …truly amazing and still carries a fair amount of vehicle traffic every day
