This is one of the best interviews about the movie, honestly... when Anthony is talking about how he spent his life trying to get away from where he grew up and the movie taught him that he should make peace and be proud of it instead. Man, we all need a little bit of that I think.
@@AnaGabriela-jp8os Same. The world is good at making you feel ashamed at who you are, where you've come from, and the scars that you carry. The greatest achievement in life is making peace with and loving yourself.

They casted Abuela Claudia perfectly. The way she tugged my heart in Paciencia Y Fe. I've rewatched that scene so many times. Worth the 25 dollars honestly!
She’s the original abuela claudia from the broadway musical so im really happy they casted her again for the movie bc she’s honestly perfect for the role!!!
My grandma immigrated from Ecuador in the 60's and raised my father in Washington Heights. She was a maid and worked till the day she passed away. I was raised in Florida and visited her once a year. I understand Spanish better than I speak it and she only spoke Spanish. I was too young to have developed a relationship with her but I get a sense of who she was from my relatives. She was the first to become a US citizen in my family and she was the matriarch thou she was the youngest. Abuela Claudia's character reminds me so much of my grandma. I not only ball my eyes out watching the film but just listening to the recording.
That part got me too. Just because of the fact that you never see an older woman be such a pivotal part of the story and really get her chance to shine with a knockout song like that.
The way Lin encourages his people is so sweet to see. It could be so easy to act like he’s above them, but he’s honestly like a loving brother to some, a wise uncle to others, and to the world he’s a creative genius. Also.... witnessing Anthony be the star of this is so fulfilling.

Yeah, me too Anthony. **wipes tear** @18:30. Damn. That was emotional af. I bawled my eyes out at that part too in the theater when Nina was at the table talking about her experiences at Uni. Scarily similar to my own. I felt so seen.
I was bawling so many times during this movie. When the whole ensemble came in during the first In The Heights chorus, seeing all of those Latine faces fill the screen. During ‘Breathe’, multiple times during ‘Paciencia Y Fe’. I lost my abuelo and abuela during the pandemic, so Abuela’s whole story hit home HARD
I'm a Japanese Peruvian, currently living in Japan. Wow this movie woke up my latina side that ihas been sleeping for years!! Felt super nostalgic too about my Latina family!! God bless Lin-Manuel Miranda, I just saw the movie two days ago and I've told the nurse at the doctor's office, my neighbors, the Lyft driver - everyone that crosses my path about this wonderful musical. It was amazing to see the diversity of Spanish speaking people as I have experienced them all my life - hard working, good and dignified people. Also, I am Cuban, I embroider and so many moments resonated with me. I literally can't remember I saw a movie in a cinema that inspired me so much. :)
I actually can't believe Corey said he couldn't sing! He stole the show for me; he's got such a gorgeous tone, and I was so madly impressed and in love with how he sounded.
I’m originally from Washington Heights so it was exciting to watch In the Heights and seeing areas where I frequently walked by as a child so thank you for the memories. Man, I could have made a perfect actress in this cause I know first hand what it was like living in the heights.

7:42 / 8:34 now I won't be able to listen to "My Shot" the same way again. Now all I'm able to think of is little Anthony trying to escape from these neighborhoods where people were either dying or not reaching their dreams and just going through all that trauma at a young age.
Had to see it. My first movie in a year and loved it. The audience applauding at the end of this movie came natural although it is not common here in Puerto Rico.

I cried , I smiled , I sobbed , I felt uplifted This movie made me want to learn spanish and I am already in love with Latin community ❤ I am an Indian … deeply moved by this film I think that speaks for how great a film this is
In the height is the only musical I truly bawled my eyes out crying because I felt so seen. My god I'm not even from America, but I saw bits and pieces of myself in almost all of the characters. The most emotional song is of course Paciencia y fe because it reminds me of my mother so much it's kind of scary.
Lin Manuel ur a good person, that’s all it’s matters God Bless You, the movie ist one of the best I seem, I love it, it remind me of West Side Story , the best 2 best movies I seem Joker & In The Heighs, I’m so proud of u Lin♥️
Still sort of surprised no one has asked Lin (at least in any of the thousands of interviews I've watched) about the decision to change Nina's reason for dropping out from the loss of her scholarship to that feeling of alienation... Love both versions of this so much but am definitely curious since that was a detail he's said he fought to not change when they were starting out
I think part of it is the fact that what they wanted to change it to originally was some kind of stereotypical “oh she got pregnant” or “a boyfriend” plot point whereas now it’s still about how difficult it is to be different in a homogeneous group like an elite college. Like the importance of culture and community is the whole point of the musical and this change only emphasizes that rather than fall into a stereotype.
The original soundtrack said she was working while going to school to pay for what her scholarship didn't cover. Her grades began to slip to the point she lost her scholarship or was on academic probation. @@SlytherinBookworm
