Followed the link from your last upload and this is cool as sh*t to know! I never even thought about a hole saw AR. I just always thought along the line of a lathe. But to trash up a stack or a sound on a variety of cracked / used cymbals I've got in storage, are you kidding me? I'm SO thankful you shared this
Awesome Adam! I did the exact same thing last year with an old pair of zildjan scimitar hats. Buffed em' up and then did the drilling. Now have 2 different accent cymbals! By the way! Kudos on your choice of music for covers! A LOT of drummers like to mix christian music with a lot of secular music in their covers. When you listen to the lyrics it tells the story ---- just sayin! Keep up the awesome channel! (Subscribed) . Thanks!
Thank you! Sounds like you had a cool project as well :) Regarding the songs I cover...I drum to music that I enjoy listening to and try not to cover songs that reflect (not contradict) my beliefs. Thanks for subscribing :)
Hahah, love the dedication! I'd be under the covers with a cup of hot chocolate LOL. This is a great project! Ahh love time-lapse footage! Sounds cool man! Very different. I wish I could do all that handyman stuff. Awesome vid!
Thanks Kelly! I really enjoy these kind of projects :) I think I may use these as a secondary hi-hat setup or a stack. If you listen with headphones, you can really here the "ring" before I cut the holes....pretty annoying, but not it's gone!
@@anthonygrant9879 Do you mean a 3/8" drill? That would work fine. If you are talking about a 3/8" drill bit, that would be very small....would take a lot of holes to change the sound. That size would work to create your own "quick beats" though.
@@ARDrummer sweet... I've always had my eye out for a good deal on a vintage 1960's Rogers or Ludwig set. I have so many friends that have found a diamond in the rough but I haven't been so lucky. one of my students found a 1965 Roger at a Garage sale... it was dusty but perfect and all original Hardware... he got it for $300... Didn't even know what he had until I told him what it was worth.
@@Thedrummersalmanac Yeah, those kind of deals are almost always local. (facebook marketplace or craigslist). I got 2 vintage Ludwig rack tom and floor tom for $100 (blue/olive badge). The kit had a MIJ kick that I ended up using for a different project. I matted it with a 28" Ludwig marching bass drum that I got for $25 from an old music store that was going out and wrapped them all to match. These deals don't pop up much and you have to be constantly looking for them. Hopefully you will find a "deal" soon :)
The close sound it became far better than before. You don't stand to cut holes to the one (maybe the bottom) first and see how it sounds and then proceed the other and it makes me wondering if they wants smaller holes maybe the sound it will be medium trashy.Anyway the possibilities is countless maybe.
Always clamp when drilling thin metal. Good job.
Yes...I have since changed the way I do this. A large step bit makes this job much easier!

Very cool...glad to give you some ideas. Really changes the sound!

@@ARDrummer just a question do you think a 3/16" drill bit could work

@@ARDrummer Thanks for replying back but It's not a 3/8", it's a 3/16" × 3-1/2" drill bit, would this be too small ?
Great to see you working on this project Adam, the result is not bad I think. Well done👊👍😎
Thanks Rob!
Great!!! So cool ! What a great difference! Love them after much more than before =) =) =)
Thanks! I love them as some secondary hats/effect cymbals :)
Great job... Sounds great
Thanks!
@@ARDrummer 👍
Man... where do find all this stuff! There are some real treasures there. I pay a lot of money for cymbals that dirty. Lol
:) I get most of my used stuff online...reverb, ebay etc.

Great job my friend!!!!....the sound is awesome!!
Thanks!
I think they sound much better with holes drilled in them 👍✌.
Thanks! They turned out great....I use them as some effect/secondary hats on one of my setups.
Awesome job! Sounds great!
Thanks a lot!

I would think the smaller/less holes, the less trashy it would be.
wow ...you are so good in these things ♥♫
Thanks :) I enjoy these kind of projects
last time i drilled ozone holes in cheap cymbals, i went through _two_ hole saws that were made for metal!!
You must of had thicker cymbals than mine :) Or you just got some defective hole saws, lol
@@ARDrummer 😂 probably some cheap lowe's mess
....i forget the brand, though. red logo on a white bit.
@@Pure_KodiakWILD_Power lol....I think mine is Black and Decker...nothing fancy :)
@@ARDrummer 😂 sometimes nothing fancy is what it takes.
Sick man I’m actually doing the exact same thing with some crappy zbt cymbals I have.
Thanks! Pretty fun project with definite and relatively quick results! Great way to create effect cymbals :)
What tool are you using
A drill and "hole saw" used for door knobs etc. I have since learned that using a drill and large "step bit" is the best way to do this.
