As far as the frayed jeans go, you're just a tough guy! Been welding since 1971 and only caught on fire about three times. Boy, do you feel it! Not all of us can afford the fancy garb that goes with welding. Don't beat yourself up, you're doin' just fine! Bob O. out!

I really like this series! Jody, all the meterial I had put into the down draft, on my plasmaCAM table was going to be used in a manual table I had prior plans for, but your design, of it rolling / protable, at least within in the shop, down draft table, is pisser! I know how it is to work in a small shop, moving it around the shop or moving it around under a larger project, I like the thinking :) Keith

@BigBodySmallBrain the 2097 filters do have a layer of activated carbon that do offer some protection from fumes

thanks Keith, this one is 30" square and about 34" tall...I am already thinking 24" square might have been better for the sake of moving it around and to get better draw. We will see.

well i think if you get the right filters it can save some years of your life, i got the same with pads for welding aluminum and it does save you from having a bad headache after a whole day of aluminum welding, espicialy when your doing mig :P

Jody, you should get your paws on some Blue Demon wire and see what your think? I believe it's made in Australia. I've been having a lot of feed problems with Lincoln wire this last year, it gets jumpy coming off the roll and really buggers up the show.
    Nice project as always!

Jody, I have tried those 3m masks,i really hate the rubber against my face . A Japanese feller gave me a mask they use in Japan ,oh man are we missing out. It has a fabric washable cover that goes over a soft rubber face seal. I have worn it for dam near 12 hours with minimal discomfort.

Worst case scenario you catch fire, and a cotton fire you can wipe out with your hand...

the respirator really doesn't mater since what makes you sick is the gas form of zinc oxide which is just as capable at going the the filters as air. i use that type of respirator at work for PAC but it does nothing for the zinc oxide. milk helps though.

I am thinking about making one like that. Just out of curiosity about how much time and money do you have in this project. Thanks so much for the video keep up the great welding.

    Hi Jody, Love your videos!
Unrelated to this video, I saw your video on welding helmets/face shields, well done! My problem is: In lieu of purchasing a $500 welding helmet, can you recommend something in the $100-$200. range where I can actually see the work I'm welding as well as the puddle?

Dumb question alert. Could you run a clothes dryer hose from the internal funnel into a drawer full of water, and create enough suction to pull the air out of the dryer hose, through the water and outside? The water acting as an air filter. Basically, a giant steel bong.

Ever considered showing people how to make things square with a tape measure? I NEVER use a framing square. They can be off after a certain distance I'm sure u know this tho. Just thought I'd bring it to your attention. Thanks

measure the 2 sets of opposite comers distance from each other. if both opposite corners measurement is equal in length you are square. no need for a vid for that
