I guarantee everyone, in 10 years from now everyone is gonna talk about how amazing the M8 was. Bottom line, the M8/M5 is a more capable super car than anything within at least 50k up or down of it's price. Especially when you consider both the interior quality and driving performance.
this is true sir
A grumpy short man who is always incredibly honest in his opinion. The world needs more Chris Harris talking cars.
Yesss!
I hope people have not missed his podcast "Collecting cars"
@@bingoberra18 wow where?
@@topg2820 Just google chris harris podcast youll find it on several platforms, hes mostly having other journalists as guests but its nice to hear them share stories and stuff
@jon doe Noone cares about your opinions
The day Chris Harris stops giving his A+ opinion is the day I start walking everywhere
You already do prob, you peasant ()
@jon doe Your name is literally "jon doe"
@@MarshallHurtado dude I was joking.. the () in the original comment was a typo'ed ;)
@@Akkbar21 I deleted my reply from earlier and upvoted your comment because it's actually a good jab! Thanks for the giggle, mate
Marshall Hurtado fair enough. You’re welcome. Peace be with you my friend.
Can you do a video on your garage Chris???
Go look at the channel the late brake show. There’s 2 parts where Johnny goes through Chris’ cars with him.
This is why I love to watch Chris; pinpoint accuracy on how BMW is doing lately!
@jon doe sure.......
Chris's fav M car of all time snuck in at the end of the clip E28 M5....he owns one! 👍😎
Th e39 is where the real M5 shined though
@@aussie2uGA well... not really. E34.
J0lker everyone has a different opinion
@@abdulrahmanalquraishi2084 no shit sherlock
No its not... It is 1M
he is on his own...for me the best motoring journalist that I've encountered...
Chris Harris, always on point. No one dissects and explains a car's greatness or failings so effectively.
@john doe shut up
couldn't agree more! Love this analysis. His tone and his arguments are just spot on.
jon doe just shut up no one asked for your opinion
Ferrari Fan shut up u muppet
jon doe 🤣🤣🤣😭🤦♂️
Top gear dont deserve Chris Harris ;
@jon doe How come? Hes really interested in cars and their technology, has lot of knowldge, hes passionate about them and hes really good driver. You cant say anything of above about buffoons like clarkson and his crew, they made purely enternainment show, they didn't know crap about cars.
ps and I actually feel like I learned something from him, for example from his drifting lessons you can find on yt.
Roni92pl clarkson and his crew showed the pure passion in cars. They know very well. Chris Harris is just a grumpy old man that makes subjective comments.
Surely he’d have the s63 amg coupe he reviewed recently over this.
I almost love these Chris Harris insights and thoughts more enjoyable than the Top Gear episodes itself.
Rare to see someone just speaking his mind in all honesty especially in his position hosting the biggest car show in the world.
Nebojsa Trivic shame it isnt on TV
@jon doe Chris Harris has no fear, you clearly do.
@jon doe yeah because he's going to aimlessly thrash a priceless rally legend of a car owned by the mcrae family 🤦♂️. To even have sat in that car is a privilege in itself
"A pair of shoulders driving down the road" best description of the 1M I've heard
I have an M8 but love Chris' opinions. Man knows his stuff, even if I disagree. Not sure where they got 165k from though. Mine was 126 new
I love Chris, but the other two.... Top Gear needs more than one person who knows how to drive. Or knows anything about cars for that matter.
@jon doe disagree. The colin mcrae and impreza tribute was one of the best pieces in top gear
@jon doe you probably just watch top gear for the "entertainment" right?
@@richboy900 that's all it has been about for at least a decade.
i have the original 8 its ageless. It was ahead of its time. So many thumbs up from people.
Cant wait to buy a depriciated 850i for a brick and couple of stones after 10years
And then you need to take a mortgage to afford their maintenance.
Adeel A. Ahmad im a mechanic and thats our weakness as a carlover, buu something we love and throw crazy amount of money in it
Right on man👊
and the reason it'll be worth "a brick and a couple of stones" is because nobody will want/like them and new cars in 10 years time will be other worldly.
I know you meant to include the E46 M3 manual on your list too, Chris, but definitely the E39 M5 as well!!!
The (lack of) rapport between these two 😂 Chris just wants to walk around warehouses full of '80s cars with Neil.
Chris is great, I will now watch Top gear because of him :)
That Impreza in the background, though!
@jon doe Philistine.
Burn it with fire
@jon doe why?
replacement for viagra?
Chris, you mentioned remapping of the current M3, what sort of improvements are we talking about. Just extracting more power can spoil the overall experience. Suggestion, make us a video of your ideal version of a remapped M3....
I think he was talking about remapping the torque curve so the torque is more linear and less spiky. However I believe the competition pack on the f80 has a remapped engine for that same purpose so you could always just get that. Also the CS has that as well probably
Refreshing honesty from chris as usual, great stuff.
Two Wheel Drive mode on the M8 should be called “Journalist Test Mode”, that’s the only time it will be used. Chris nails it as usual.
I think there are plenty of buyers that use it once or twice on a parking lot or so. Not worth to pay extra money for, but a cool trick that doesn't come with any disadvantages as far as I can tell.
Did they re upload the video
I love the entire 1 series coupe/cabrio line. I’ve wanted one for ages and have finally got a straight six N52 cabrio, if I get some 1M bits it would be perfection. It’s just the right size, so balanced, so easy to safely drift, only problem is the steering is a bit over-assisted.
I think it looks fantastic personally, which I don't often say about BMWs. Was a bit miffed when they were slagging it off on Top Gear. The price is eye-watering though.
Most BMW’s look great, subjective I know. But I think they Look better than the equivalent German brands, just cooler
Exactly! He slated the Honda Type R for its ‘Asbo’ looks and then complains BMW M cars are not ‘Asbo’ enough🙄.
I think he forgets that, that is the point of its design, a wolf in a sheep’s clothing, a subtle look that belies the beast that lies within.
Not every fast, desirable and well engineered car has to look the way Chris Harris thinks it should!
Rubedo Alaberti agreed to some extent, but I think most manufacturers are moving towards subtle designs of their top end models. Audi are classic examples re their S3, not an aggressive looking car but very good at what it does. VW Golf R similarly.
I’m not sure where he got his £160k price from for the M8 but I’m guessing most of that cost is due to its high spec of components like carbon ceramic brakes etc.
The very well equipped base spec I believe is about £120k which I think is slightly overpriced, which appears to be the norm for premium car manufacturers against a competitive consumer market that demands price incentives to buy (BMW X3M springs to mind), call it clever marketing or cheapening of the brand, whatever anyone thinks, BMW are selling cars and making profit and that is all they care about.
@@666DW two things. He's firstly talking about track and camber and ride height. Not stick on wings and fake aero nonsense. And secondly, the fact that a 520d M sport looks almost identical bar some exhausts and brakes to an M5 these days. BMW (and AMG and RS to an extent) with the cooking models getting the mutton dressed as lamb treatment have diluted the specialness of the flagship models. For us car enthusiasts, it's a bit sad, but for the mainstream vanity purchaser who wants a driveway ornament, they've nailed it.
Chris Hyman a well worded reply👍🏻
However, is it possible to manufacture ‘cooking’ model’s for everyday use given the state of our roads?
I’d be more inclined to comment that the stripped out versions like the M3 CS would be for those seeking everyday/track day cars.
I agree with your use of the vanity purpose though as it appears looks account for everything, no matter what you buy.
The angry Persian who speaks his mind and it's so refreshing to hear someone who is passionate about cars
Superb video.
Really appreciate him for answering the yes/no question with one answer.
Gonna miss him now that top gear has ended 😔
Could these two just go start their own car channel? I’d watch this for hours.
A BMW for 165 grand that looks like a Mustang.
And has less power
I just keep looking at the 555 Impreza
This man reads my mind! Such a good sincere opinion by his part. Welldone.
I’ve always appreciated Chris Harris’s blunt no-nonsense approach to cars. He is a good reality check where these exotic cars are concerned.
I'd take an M2 over this.
a good tune and it's very close to this boat...
Agreed. The higher the series, the worse the car gets
same
Big facts
Same, would be my favourite m car. Love the way it looks
Miss this guys RUclips reviews!m from back in the day!
nice impreza in background
I completely agree with everything said about the M8... Apart from the fact that I saw one at track day last month lol
Can't unsee the staunch pair of shoulders my 1M looks like now, thanks Chris 😂😂
The most honest opinion in cars. How he doesn't have his own car show, makes no sense at all.
Ah. Re-uploaded because they put up the wrong picture of the new 4 Series
Every picture of the new 4 Series is the wrong picture!
@@misterchow well said.
yeah I thought that was odd on the original post, I would have thought TG editors would be familiar with a 6 year old design.
Don't think so. You can change the pic after upload.
LOTUSELISE340R you can change the thumbnail but not a picture that pops up as part of the video. In the original video when they reference the 4 series, the current F32 version was shown instead of the concept 4 that previews the styling of the next 4 series. So yeah, definitely reuploaded.
I enjoy and get more out of these exchanges than I do the TV show.
Brilliance, as always. Thank you, Chris Harris!
Considered reasoning and not afraid to have an unpopular opinion.
Absolute real talk.
The OG and LCI M2 will go down as the next type of 1M that people will learn to appreciate in later years. I love my M2!
I've got a 1M as well but it's only driven in good weather. My DD is a Cayman 981S. Both are brilliant cars, but the latter is more easily replaced.
Waiting on him to do a review on the updated rcf.
Oooooooooh looks nice
Who else is Not with Chris on this because I'm looking forward to getting one of these
@jon doe yeah he sucks
They just designed the new 6 series and named it The 8 so that they can over price it.
I'm more interested in the WRC in the background. RIP COLIN
4:17 looks like something Honda would make from the rear, need to be able to see the arches
It looks great
Saw this last year in Goodwood and was really disappointed it look so ordinary. Most of new Beemers feels kinda step back. Probably like the M2 the most.
I love my 1M too. So happy that he endorses it.
Bmw e39 m5 literally the best car ever made
Arash_SP I concur
@@Cassius1706 i mean how can anyone even disagree? It's a legendary machine and a work of art. It's litteraly my dream car and imma get one one day
Arash_SP Go for it dude!
These chats are a little frustrating because the host keeps interrupting and adding his views when we really want to hear Chris finish his sentences.
The four door 8 is a sexy beast. BMW should hire Harris for consulting purposes.
I like the style of m8 and m5 it's they don't have to be aggressive looking like m3 or m2 ,they must be a difference btwn m cars.
Imagine getting Chris to talk about M cars and not let him mention an e28 M5...
Harris is absolutely right! Ridiculous money for a car that doesn't make much sense
M6 grand coupe was the last styling that beamer really got it.
Chris is absolutely right on the price which is utterly ridiculous.
Chris Harris on.. It is a great format, the only top gear stuff I watch
This new 8-series is basically a new 6-series...
It's just called 8-series for marketing purposes...
It has nothing to do with the original 8-series.
It's not even pillar-less like the original...
What a shame.
Making it pillarless would make its weight go up.
inc. don't matter it should stick to original so it's basically a m6 not an m8
facts this is 100% true
@@birch4209 True!
Yes, like I said, this is just a "marketing" kind of 8-series...
Its only the interior that's reminiscent of the original 8
He’s nuts this car is out of this world there is nothing like it
So true on the road presence on these cars. My co-worker bought a 4 door M8 - she sent me a pic and I had no clue it was an M car. Styling is terrible. There are many other cars I'd prefer in that price range. I also disagree with Chris with the traction control comment. I think people should be able to enable it or disable it in RWD mode. Even with it on, a rear drive car will behave differently than an AWD car.
E28? I always preferred the E34 M5, well I would as I owned one back in the day. 🚘
Little bit surprised regarding M4, but I agree with him. There were times when all the car experts (sort of) smashed E92 m3 for being too heavy.. When m4 was released again stories about how it sounds shitty, traction issues and etc. Where reality is that E92 m3 is about the same weight as m4 is, but nobody was complaining about that upon release of the m4. I think m4 as F82 is really good car, what cannot be said about the remaining f30 range, where it really lacks something in esthusiast driving department.
Well no one complained because it didn’t get any heavier. And it had the torque the e92 m3 didn’t. But having driven both the e92 and f82 the e92 was the more exciting car all around
Side profile is pure Hyundai S Coupe
I see Chris is also a practical guy. I liked his comment on the M8 being the same as a M5 except it's got less space.
Chris knows where its at being a 1M owner👌🏽
"The new BMW's are basically a pair of radiators going down the road"
There, fixed it for ya!
Chris' point about warning prospective buyers about the potential hazards of the full-on version of 2wd is fair enough... but what about 2nd/3rd/4th buyers down the road??
330ci ZHP , M3 E46 and the E39 M5, yum
E92 m3 as well!! It deserves to be there..it really does.. with a aftermarket exhaust its just great
They just don’t look butch enough!! Agree with Chris M cars always stood out like a bulldog vrs a Jack Russel. Bring back the arches!! Enjoying latest TG content on YT!!
Que carro lindo mn, VSF!
Top Gear presenters should be Chris Harris, Harry Metcalfe, Jonny Smith and Henry Catchpole. Sorted
That would be a fabulous team
Too costly
Or maybe you are too poor.
now we all waitin Chris to Review the new Alfa Romeo Giulia GTA !!!!!
I'm not at all a BMW fan, but I can happily listen to Chris Harris's opinion on them 👍🏽
As soon as the guy said BMW "MATE" made me realise why I font watch Top Gear anymore
The m8 is just too expensive right now. The original 850csi was amazing!
£165k as tested is bollocks, on the configurator if you choose the ultimate pack which includes all the options most you can spend on one is £145k. Also, Chris says he could make an argument for one at £100k, you CAN get the standard comp pack car for £100k with a £20k discount on Carwow
The car in this video is £140,715 and the most expensive car you can configure in the UK is £142,875.
I think the BBC dropped the ball on this one!
Chris does not sugarcoat it. No bullshit with him!!!
Chris is spot on concerning his opinion of the new M cars. I totally agree with him on the 2011 1M as well as the 1986 M5 as well. Big power and big dimensions do not place most cars at the pinnacle of the “fun to drive” world. They can have their “1000” hp and 4000 lb. cars, I’ll take a car that’s much lighter, more nimble and has an engine that can be redlined on the road any day.
I like it because the super sedan is a bit crowded a segment and this and the gran coupe is a lil sexier
That Subaru in the back is Nice
Chris Harris the only top gear presenter ever that actually knows about cars and everything he says is actually correct.
I'd cross shop it against a Porsche Taycan. The Turbo might be of similar price? Even the Turbo S? If you want to save, the 4S seems to be plenty nice.
I love to see Chris Harris drive the cats like the way it was intended to be 🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌👏👏👏👏👏👏🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥👍👍👍👍👍
Chris Harris only, please! Please!
Chris is right about the Michelin performance
Never get this over a db11
Words of wisdom from Chris
Imagine preferring the original 8 series over the new one
How do I stream Top Gear in the States without pirating it? Seems like BBC America doesn't even do it any longer.
Thank you Chris. Call what it is.
is it possible to remap the earlier versions of the M4 without increase of HP ?
Yes
