Lovely video, I really appreciate your walkthrough. I have been there myself and I like you I think that this is a beautiful city. I need to go back soon to capture it from a different perspective. Cheers
Great little intro to Venice, and you may have just triggered the ‘go’ switch for our trip. Couldn’t agree more with your finding of taking a good midrange zoom, as i too find myself using the two extremes of the zoom range. Thanks much for this video.
Goughie, an excellent video. Many thanks. Never really wanted to go to Venice and now, after this, perhaps I dont need to anyway!! Really good travelog. I was thinking of your stackable presets from the start and noticed that you gave a plug to this topic on one or two photos. I have been thinking and experimenting about this and probably will add to my previous comment on your earlier video on this topic. Thanks again.
Goughie I love your videos and your pictures. You should have a lot more subscribers imo. If you ever visit Cyprus I'd love to suggest locations for you to shoot great pictures, and even grab a beer with you. Greetings from Cyprus
Wow! So impressed! Both with your photography - I think these are my favorite photos from you so far - and with the ton of info and insight on Venice and travel photography there. 🙏🙏🙏
Great video/review as always. I agree with some of your observations. I went in 2013 and the best part about it was getting lost and stumbling upon really cool alleys and squares. Still one of my favorite travel destinations to date. Continuing to enjoy these videos and the delivery. Keep up the good work Goughie!
Couldn't agree more on your advice to get lost! We spent a couple hours on the main drag along the Grand Canal and couldn't wait to get out. It's like Disneyland, but a couple streets away it's totally different. Small canals, cute, quiet little restraints with friendly locals.
Just came across your channel, fujifilm leica and travel? Instant subscribe! Always makes me laugh when i see youtubers from the uk saying they've never been to venice or paris 😂 like its a 2hr flight, you can go there and back in a single day! Takes me 24hrs to fly there and a few thousand $$! 😂 great photos, love your fuji recipe video too explaining all the differences each setting makes, have never seen that breakdown before.
Wow, what a find! Love your to-the-point approach. Of all the choices in photography, focal length is the thing I struggle with most, so the lens info was really useful. Looks like the kind of location that would benefit from my GFX50R slung over the shoulder with the 35-70 on, plus an old 80mm Mamiya in the pocket. May I ask what time of year you went? I suppose like many people, I’m put off by the crowds, so I’ve always thought about going in winter - although I guess it’s never really quiet. Love the idea of getting up, having coffee and then getting lost with the camera. I did just that for a very happy week in Essaouira, Morocco, a couple of years ago. Subscribed.
Really fantastic photos of venice. Your style is really perfect for Italian architecture. As a student I was in venice long before I discovered photography. Even today I could beat myself for not having decent photos of venice. :D
I stayed in Cannaregio distric where the Venitians lives away from the crowd. Spritz and cichetis with the local by the canal it's absolutly charming ,the real Venice! It's about 15 minutes walk from Place Saint-Marc where i got there very early in the morning and felt not inspired to stay more than an hour to take photos ,i took the same photos as you. I had my 16-80 and the 33 f1.4 and use both but mainly the 16-80. A mid-zoom is about all you need. I took my best photos in Cannaregio distric. My only regret is i did not visit Burano.
@@Goughie Absolutly ! Venice has may faces many mood. I would love to be able to shoot Venice in the fog specialy in those litlle canals at nigh. Thank you for your chanel really apreciate your work.
very good video as always, thanks for sharing your impressions. I have another question that might be a bit offtopic: How often do you switch your lenses on a daily trip around a city? I got the xf18 and 33 f1.4 an really love the pictures I can get with them. But I'm a little "afraid" switching them outside my hotel room so many times . So I thought about buying the xf16-55 for more flexibility on a daily walk and use my primes only occasionally and if I do, I switch them calmly and then leave them on the body since I get back to my hotel etc.
Depends really! If I see a photo that’s worth a lens swap then I’ll just go for it! What are you afraid of? I wouldn’t worry about the actual gear, as long as it isn’t raining, it’s probably less dusty outside. Sensor cleaning is super easy! And a rocket blower normally sorts it out anyway! I used to worry more about dropping something! But I’ve got a bit of an order now using an empty slot in my bag
Hi from a photographer based in Milan, love Venice but it’s a little difficult to do street because of the crowd and the open space, I often miss a background or the picture is too noisy. My best blocks are Jewish zone and Canneregio but there’s beauty everywhere.
Fast paced, loaded w/first hand advice, travel and photographic, Goughie.👍 Some places can present sensory overload, making it a challenge to calmly isolate good compositions. Cool panos, and footage. Glass craftsmen at work can yield super artisan images. Unless I missed it, how long were you in Venice? Did you geoplan your shots (time of day, sun position, etc.) Not long ago there were news reports of very low water levels in Venice - looks like that was not the case during your visit. Cheers!
We arrived early Saturday and left mid afternoon on Tuesday, so two full days in the middle! I didn’t plan anything to that level of detail no! Partly because the weather was a little iffy! Yes the news surrounding Venice is all over the place! Low water levels one week! Followed by flooding the next
If you travel again in Italy come to Torino, not too far from Milan, hidden gem, first capital city of Italy, founded by the Romans, a lot cheaper than Milan or Venice, won’t be disappointed.
the colour of the buildings isn't a myth, the claddagh in Galway and Cobh in Cork, Dingle in Kerry, Westport in Mayo and many more are the same, Cape Town, Charleston, South Carolina, St. John’s, Newfoundland in the UK the likes of Brighton, Lower Fishguard, Pembrokeshire, and even Tobermory on the Isle of Mull aka Balamory from the Children's TV show and many more
Epic video Goughie! Seriously mate, the editing, filming, the cuts, the professional level keeps getting higher and higher every week! The takes and filming were flawless, and photos beautiful as always. Your girlfriend also made excellent use of the X100V. What a beautiful place to go. Certainly wrote down the tips, and will indeed consider taking a zoom lens when I do go there. Problem is my only portable one is the Fujinon f/4 16-80mm XD Cheers mate!
@@Goughie Yeah, I might pick up a used Q or Q2 if prices drop once the Q3 is announced. Recently got my first leica, a M4 and loving it! The digital M's are crazy expensive though, gonna have to save awhile longer
To me, most photos taken with long focal lengths look unnatural. That’s why I prefer standard primes. If I’m not close enough to make a good photo then it’s not worth taking (for me).
me being a tight yorkshireman convinced my wife not to do the €80 gondolas saying at least weve seen em. she said she was fine with that because we could go on them at the venetian in vegas if we ever go. i immediately whipped out £80.00 and said if we go on a gondola we go on a real one! venice is so beautiful to photograph
Great video mate. Looked like an awesome time.
forte Goughie! 👍🏼
Lovely photos. If I ever go to Venice I'll bring my wide angle zoom and telezoom with me.
You've done more for Venice with this video than their entire tourism board has to date.
Hahah! 😂
WOW. That is art in the true sense.
Hopefully not sarcasm 😂
@@Goughie Definitely NOT sarcasm. I am in awe at the incredible beauty and talent of the artists.

The lens advice you give for locations is a gem. Very much appreciated.
Nice video man, loved the shots and tips about the travel.

Great video. Yes, pre-trip can be stressful to decide on gear to take. For pleasure, less is more with a good zoom.

Cool shots and thanks for all the extra info! Do you think one could get by with only a 28-mm equivalent lens like the Fuji 18mm?
Yeaaah if I was restricted to a single prime that would be my choice
So much useful info here, not only with photography but traveling in general. Great video man.
