Volkswagen up! GTI was officially presented in May 2018 during Volkswagen fan fest in Wörthersee. 115 hp, sub-9 0-100 km/h time, and less than a 1000 kg. This means Volkswagen up! GTI is still heavier than the original Golf GTI, but it’s slightly more powerful, and has more torque, making it a fun, reasonably priced car.
Starting price: 17 000 euro
As tested: 18 500 euro

Up ! Gti is a small pocket rocket , it is what is says on the TIN - to many people expect it to drive like a twice the price performance Car !!! which it is clearly not !!!!! So what part of this do many people NOT understand !!!
It’s a fab little 🚗 I love it.
I drive on public roads not race tracks, if I want to do that I will use my BM
when you look for a "no-bullshit" review, look no further than Marek Drives! Great review as usual.
What has not been mentioned is the significant practicality of the Up as a city car. Surprisingly ample amount of space inside for two passengers on short trips or for carrying shopping goods, materials, etc. It parks and turns wonderfully. Add a more powerful, torquey engine and sporty looks and, bingo, it works just fine for me. Maybe it's a male thing to have a faster off the line car, higher revs, and horse power, etc. We all have to drive within certain speed limits in the end (note influx of radar devices) and the Up allows you to do that and have fun. Finally, in contrast to the earlier Up we have had, from 2013, at 75ch, the GTI has far more pep and a much-needed 6th gear for the highway. So, it is for us, a practical, sporty, quick, agile and reliable way to travel. I do appreciate the critique, however, from Marek. Everyone is different. The Up gti works for me.
I love the up gti. I think it’s a great base car. Standard I admit it cud be better. But slam it bbs wheels. Possible remap and upgrade intercooler and turbo it be a little monster. But still be cheap to run.
the only VW id buy but only because id want to experience as close to the original Golf Gti as possible
"Boring, but so uncomfortable, it'll keep me awake."
Well done, sir. XD
Marek, many thanks for great reviews! Please make a review on the latest Abarth 595!
awesome video!
Really another great review, regardless of the car!
Just as you said, GTIs are a good compromise between daily usability and having fun. It's nice to just mash the throttle sometimes on twisty roads on your way back home (or work lol). I sometimes do that in my Peugeot 208, though it's a shame it's not a GTI. It's hard to come by new GTIs where I live, guess people are not much into fun cars, rather big and expensive ones just to show off their 'status'. But oh well, I'd love to get some sort of a GTI someday. Hard work will eventually pay off. #MarekDrivesContest
At 4:11 is the button you pressed really ESPoff button? ESPoff's symbol should be a car with two curves underneath.

I like GTI's because they offer nice performance with daily usability. I'm young, so in Europe that means higher registration, insurance etc etc. The GTI is affordable, thrilling and usable to the point of actually being an option fro someone like me. Although I see the VW up! as the jack of all traits but master of none, it would be the car I would go for if I could get a good one used. The best toy car is still the Abarth.
OOoh again such a boring car test and.....WAIT! A Cat!!!! WOW! I love u and your channel! Thumbs waaay up!!!
Yes - watch out for for Cat lovers - Frankie will get his own fan club. Thank you to Marek for introducing him!
Can you get this engine in non-GTI version as well?
No you can't. Other models are only 90 BHP
The ONE then I see no point in this car
Gewel +25 BHP?
Ouch! That gear change at 2:43!
Slick😂
Press car. Hard knock life.
Sadly, don't get the VW Up! in Canada.
It would look out of place, especially outside of bigger cities. I recall driving a rental Micra from London to Toronto. I could almost drive under a semi, like they did in Fast and Furious :)
#MarekDrivesContest
GTI=great time inside, There is nothing better than a old mk I golf on a mountain road and wheels screaming.
Frankie goes to Hollywood! 😀 With that price tag the Fiesta 1.0 125 / 140 hp would be more sporty I think.
Bruno Côrte There have been group tests. The Up gti comes out on top.
The GTI is way more fun to drive than the 1.0 Fiesta
Dziwnie sie ciebie slucha po eng. Akcent ok. Jezyk ok. Ale jednak slychac cos polskiego i nie wiem dokladnie co
Gewel ✔ Kaca😂😂😂😉
once i thought that you can add nice looking wheels and every car become sporty and good looking , i was wrong.
Needs 30 more hp. Or needs to be cheaper.
every VW test drive and review you make sounds like a commercial for VW
Which part of this review in particular?
every.
Finally someone else who complains about the ridiculous blind spot by the a-pillars. I drove a Citigo once and was amazed that it's even legal to produce a car with such poor visibility when turning at intersections. I hate manufacturers who push the a-pillars on top of the engine. They only do this to create the sensation of space inside the cabin, without actually giving you any more space. And the downside, it creates massive a-pillars
Surr I`m promotion out :)
#MarekDrivesContest I dont like GTI at all, but especially VW group.
funny guy!
All VW have to do is add power folding door mirrors to the option list and I'll buy!
"volkswagen" and "won't brake the bank" don't fit in the same sentence
A Ferrari has 12 cylinders mate, it’s never going to sound like a 3 cylinder hatchback.
Ahaha a cat!
Marek, I usually like your reviews but there is a trend developing - you now complain about nearly every car. It's irritating. Every other reviewer loves the Up GTi. You are the only one who endlessly complains about it. So, two possibilities. You are right and everyone else is wrong and too emotional. Or the opposite. I am an Englishman who lives in Poland and believe me, I know how much Poles moan about nearly everything. Really. This review annoyed me. Stop it. Please. However, I did agree with your final comment. The Fiesta ST would destroy it. And that's an obvious statement.
I complain about cars, which IMO deserve it.
Up! GTI is a fun toy, but a hot hatch should be an everyday car, and this is not. I'd be more than happy with a 5d 90hp 1.0 TSI.
I'd take a twingo gt over this anyday. Cheaper and more fun!
18500 for what?? With that money you buy a real car! I dont like GTIs :) #MarekDrivesContest
too little for a too much money
Vadym Pyatko What would you recommend? And not second hand.
crossovers, station wagons, hatches.....in that sequence
Stick to your day JOB
