Carnatic notes, EDM, and western Violin create a fusion of harmony
The M.S.Subbulakshmi classic, Rangapuravihara, Muthuswamy Dikshitar’s Kriti in raga Brindavana Saranga, talam Rupakam, presented here in a new age arrangement. Electronic music creates an effect of speed, while the Kriti is sung in the traditional slow pace. The music starts with a simple synth melody; the vocalist then begins the Pallavi with mild violin harmonies in the background. The second vocalist joins in just after the Pallavi to deliver a catchy interlude of Swarams. The two vocalists go back and forth in the Anupallavi with a small violin solo in between. Then back to the Pallavi, and all the elements come together. The song ends on a high.
Team Shravan Kumar Ramani (Vocals), Vinod Krishnan (Vocals), Mayukha Kashyap (Violin), and Nagaari (Music Arrangement and Production) infused this well known Carnatic classical song with western classical elements through Violin harmonies and contemporary instrumentation to create Rangapuravihara 2.0.

Journey of this song: It took us around 50 hours of remote collaboration spread over 5 months to build, record and master this track. We are a team of two classical vocalists (Shravan and Vinod) and 2 western musicians ( Mayukha and I) who worked together to experiment and build a unique rendition of this epic song. We travelled many miles to meet and record the video at the IndianRaga fellowship. And, 8 months later we finally have the video released.
So thank you to each and everyone of you who took the time to like, comment and share! It makes all this effort worthwhile!! 🙂🙂

History:
The title of the song means one who roams (vihara) in the Srirangam (Rangapura), a temple town in Tamil Nadu, India. It details the exploits of the Lord Rama, whose family deity is Ranganatha of Srirangam. The most famous version of this song was rendered by M.S.Subbulakshmi, live at the United Nations. It has a pallavi, anupallavi and charanam.

Our youngsters of this generation keeping our Carnatic vocal music and tradition alive and that said ,i shoukd congrajulate your whole team . A neat and soulful rendition by both, immersing yourselves in the nectar called Carnatic music. This kriti is my all time favourite sung by our great mastero the late smt Subbulakshmi Amma.
Thank you so much for your kind words!

I just remember my grandfather reciting this masterpiece in the Kodhanda Rama Sannadhi in Srirangam Temple everytime I listen to this great work.
So nice... We recited this one in Kanaka Bhavan Temple, Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh.
Wow it should hav been divine experience
Nagaari, Shravan, Mayukha and Vinod.... A big applause to you young and beautiful people. I couldn't control my emotions watching this video. 😭😭😭😘😘❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

thank you Manoj!
Alot of people on RUclips sung this and M.s amma's is the real and the best version after listening to amma I really liked the song and the way it was composed but after that I listened to other singers who sang it and my ears were totally blown they sang tooo lound and the tune are so streched and damaged my ears as well as the original composition but Indian raga played it so well that it absolutely matches the original with a trandional touch. That's why indian raga is always trusted when it comes to 2nd gen carnatic music
Great with you people today's generation involved with means, god Almighty always with everyone else who recognize.
This is really neat! I am working on studying and learning about Indian music in my world music graduate class. I came across this and love this! I wanted to use this for a hypothetical listening lesson plan for this class. It is neat how it incorporates Indian classical tradition as well as new-age music. Also, it is SUPER fun to listen to. I have been looking more into this music lately. Great work!
thank you Amanda!
@@vinodsmusic Sir I like your voice, I remember my school day's when I started to listen your songs because while I was good at singing but friends always blaming me like "I thought you think your self like Bhimsen Joshi or SP Balasubramanyam then, I was singing with my mother in Home and temple during Pooja,April 20 my mother passed away from cancer, after my mom died I was looking for be calm place and strees relief videos, while I got your singing video and trying to listen when I sad

Very cool and soothing likes a lot.........before I heard Harish shivaramakrishnan muse room edition which gives more affection to this song
Can't believe I missed this version all these months! Used to listen to shravan's music in sastra as a junior. He's the reason I started listening carnatic music again! And never fails to impress. And first time listening to vinod. Loved this combination. Wonderful musical instrument accompaniments!. Thanks! Ranga!
Thanks Soundarya! Good to hear from you :)
Absolutely amazing!! Words can hardly describe! 😌 this Carnatic makes my heart flutter. Indian Raga never disappoints with their music/performances!!!
I donno hw I missed this yesterday it's awesome. Their(sravan and Vinod) combo is fantastic. It's like celebration of Rain in this summer. Will be listening to this in repeat mode. Thank you for this super composition 🙏
What a great song by Muthuswami Dikshitar.. Both the singers of the song was awesome, wonderful. Seems the violin was marching to catch a tube/train and messed it up. Could the singers please re-do this song once more but without this Violin. Please. Thank you
It's always awesome song on rama,we are really so proud to born in india, listen the greatness of lord rama viharaa
I scrolled through the comments to see if a download link has been included, couldn't find. But I'm kind of appalled by the number of negative comments on such a lovely production. What I love about the neoclassical fusion versions of Indian Raaga's production, is their appeal across all age groups. My 5.5 yr old boy has picked up a liking for traditional South Indian classical music after listening to Indian Raaga and my 80 yr old dad who is an ardent carnatic music fan loves this version for Sri Ranga Pura Vihara. Great work @Vinod Krishnan and team.. keep bringing in more of these songs.
thank you Subha! Wonderful to hear about your son's interest in classical music and your father's interest in our version.
A pure diamond of Muthuswami Dikshidar!! So young and changing with intelligence and modernity?! Why not?! Moods & emotions must not be changed, never!!
When attempting Carnatic fusion ensure the true colours of the ragam are still present. Brindavana Saaranga Ragam is a beautiful ragam but the violin must play within the swarams. Muthuswamy Dikshitar Compositions have wonderful renditions which can be exquisite when performed delicately. Just for some clarity, I would suggest you to listen to Ranjani Gayathri’s version of this krithi. Overall, I was astounded by the amazing vocal skills of the two gentlemen and the slight harmony at the end. I loved it, as I always do.
Thank you very much for listening and sharing your insights! As a fusion piece we certainly took some creative liberty to blend the electronica music and western style violin better with the raagam. So any deviations from the ragam are to explore and express our creativity from the western music aspects. 🙂
It was just an opinion and suggestion. Sorry if it had caused offense
@@tmanminion4905 your honest opinions are most appreciated! No offense taken at all 🙂

Then it was Agam..!!
You guys have done full justice to the song..it was so sweet.
Negatives..The back ground. It could've been nature, greenery
Love from ODISHA..
Absolutely fantastic. Good job guys!!
Awesome work Vinod Krishnan and Shravan! And the instrumentalists! I think it made so much sense shooting this song on that gigantic bridge structure (Shravan) and with Vinod amidst that greenery. The girl walking and playing her violin. And Nagaari on the boom box at another location. Those places seem part of the city called "Rangapura" :-) Also, the word "vihaara" has a connotation of flying / omnipresence, nicely captured by the expanse in the video shoot!
Almost wonder full song muthuswami dhikshithar high light tuning to this song when we listen ever latest and mind blowing
Music finds its way forever for everyone ... nice to see young people doing different flavours of that grandeur!!! Thanks 💐
