    I really do appreciate you taking the time to make these videos! I"m scheduled for the VSG on 18Jan2017 and just began my 2 week pre-op diet today. I've researched all I can, done the training/classes and today is my first leap onto RUclips to gain other peoples experiences/advice. Yours are honest, straight forward and again, APPRECIATED!! Thank you and Happy New Year!!

      @rayanderson3164 Год назад +1

      @@Cindy-xk5vm Honestly, I have regained a lot but nowhere near where I started, I am still about 250 which is heavy for me. I was 320 and got down to about 195 within a year with zero effort and though that would be enough for me. It wasn't. The 55 has creeped back over the last almost 9 years. The program really does work IF YOU FOLLOW your doctor's orders exactly. I believe that my problem remains an eating or carb addiction. I get great results when I knuckle down and follow the diet and exercise plan, but I seldom force myself to do it. I think that gets most of us in the end. You need to solve the reasons one overeats first. I also stress eat so I hope that goes away when I retire in two years as I do far better when I am away from the stress of work. I hope this helps. -Ray

    • @Cindy-xk5vm
      @Cindy-xk5vm Год назад

      @@rayanderson3164 just seeing this now. Thanks for your reply. My sister just had gastric sleeve but I tried to talk her into the semaglutide shots first. But her mind was made up. Doctors realize now that obesity is a "hormonal" disease. That isn't solved because our stomach is too big and has to be made smaller. The sleeve does stun a particular appetite hormone for a while and that is why there is usually great success at first. Your return to carb addiction (or need) is treating an internal condition of out of whack appetite. Don't blame yourself. Try Mounjaro or one of these new meds and I bet you'll see the need to graze on carbs resolved. This is a hormonal disease and not something that can be behaviorally controlled with great success. There is still the harping on the part of professionals to change our behaviors, do this, do that. Well that didn't work great before and it won't now. The best most intelligent doctors realize that obesity isn't a result of a willful behavior, over and over, but a response to out of whack appetite hormones.

    Hi, Thank you for your incredible diary of pros and cons, hick-ups and easy moments of having the Gastric Sleeve surgery, and the healing process towards a new chapter and style of life for you. For me your diary has been incredibly informative and empowering. I am contemplating having surgery soon, to lose about half of my current body weight. I am 63 years and am wanting to be fully informed before initiating this process. One thing that I would really appreciate that I am not aware of in your documentation is before, during and after photos. I hope I am not asking or being too personal, but the visual impact would assist my view of where you have come from and where you are now. Thank you for your thoughtful updates for the selfless benefit to others.

    Carbs can make you gain especially if they're simple carbs. The nutritionist for people that I know that's had WLS are told to eat protein first, veggies second, fruit if you're still hungry and not full. Desserts sparingly. A friend had the gastric sleeve and when she'd gained 10lbs back she went to a different WLS surgeon and he said he could tighten up the sleeve and she did it. That caused her to have severe acid reflux that was extremely painful and messing up her teeth.

    Thank you for all the information you have provided. You should be very proud of yourself! You have transformed your body, fallen in love with running, and learned so much more about your head hunger and what you can/cannot eat.I'm anxious to see a 3 year follow-up from you.
    I've been researching youtube to try and decide whether to have this procedure or not. I truly appreciate your honesty. I am 64 years old, 5'3" and have Type 2 diabetes (diagnosed 7 yrs ago) which is controlled by diet and very low dose meds (A1C stable at 6.1-6.3) I need to lose 80 lbs. but as I read about the negatives, I wonder if I just limit myself calorically to 800-1000 nutritional calories a day, if I might be able to shed the weight on my own. After the procedure you still have to limit your eating so much that I could do without all the negative side effects, by doing that and NOT having the surgery. I have always had problems with weight gain and have lost weight many times throughout my life. So, truthfully, I know what to do, but am frustrated with the fact that it is way more difficult to lose weight and exercise (knee issues) with diabetes. I do water Zumba and Aerobics 3x weekly, but the weight still stays the same. I'm sure you are thinking "if it was so easy to lose the weight, why haven't I done it already?" I'm retired from teaching and don't get the daily exercise (walking up and down stairs, playground duty, being on my feet and on the go with young children) that I did when working. So while I've been overweight for about 16 yrs it has become a bigger problem since I retired. I can diet and lose about 10-15 lbs, then have difficulty getting beyond that point. At any rate, would you recommend this procedure for a person at my age. I have no other health issues except those already mentioned. I look forward to your reply. Thanks, LJJ, PhD

    Dude, thank you so much for your honesty! Whew...I needed to hear what you've experienced; I need to have the surgery, as well. I lost 70 pounds doing low carb/low calorie and then the bottom dropped out with the healthy of one of my kids and - whoop! - there it was again. I want you to win at this...so remember this: There is no carb that you haven't already tasted/experienced/enjoyed and subsequently regretted - so cut it out. We don't get to eat like the lucky ones; it's not in our DNA to do so - we're too carb sensitive. Good luck with this and I can't wait to view more videos.

    It's been explained to me that carbs are energy and if you don't burn off the energy then it turns to fat. That's why my dietitian is always beating my over the head about carbs. I starred off at 443 pounds and I been stuck between 260-265 for the last 4 months. My dietitian says it's cause of the carbs. I'm right at 1 year out. Personally I think your doing amazing. If you feel more healthy and your running like you are then I'd say keep what your doing.
    P.S.to be honest I do sometimes regreat getting the sleeve. I am more healthy then I've ever been but my hunger (probably 99% head hunger) came back immediately. I'm always hungry

    First I wanted to tell you that your video really has inspired me. I have been wanting to hear some more frank talk about the ups and downs and it is a great help. I also wanted to offer a suggestion for your upper body strength which you mentioned in this video. I am large now, but when I was younger I was not nearly so large and I had very severe back issues. So much so that my back would often go out if I bent over to pick up something. Around that time, I had several friends who were into rock climbing and they invited me along to the rock wall gym. I was afraid of injuring my back, but I gave it a try. That was almost 30 years ago. Like you, my legs were very muscular but my upper body had no strength. When a person climbs it is important to use their arms as much as possible. Of course, as a beginner I was using my legs almost all the time. But over time and with good instruction I began using my arms more and more. Since those days I have gained over 100 pounds. So, what's the lesson here? I have not had any back issues since way back when I started climbing. And while nobody would refer to my arms as big guns, I have enough strength even now to do a chin up or two. The climbing helped me strengthen my back, shoulders and arms in ways I never expected and the results have lasted all these years. Climbing might be worth considering because it is fun and the benefits of it just sort of snuck up on me. Just a personal thought and I hope it helps.

    I am in the midst of "jumping through the hoops" with the insurance company in order to have this procedure done. You have NO IDEA what your video have provided for me. I know that your initial and continuous problems are not all-inclusive, but they give me an idea of what to expect and what I can do to minimize some of those negative experiences. You spoke of being cold most times. Have you tried eating more greens/spinach to get your iron naturally while getting the necessary carbs so that you minimize constipation problems? There are good and bad carbs, as you know. Bran flakes with raisins is another great source of iron and healthy carbs which includes a natural fiber. Let me know if you have tried any of these and what effect these have had on your body. Again, thank you for your videos and the frankness you provide to your viewers/followers!

Thighs are largest muscles you got so they are heavy not to mention lower legs. If you feel good and your gonna live longer its all good bro. In 43 and 350 and 5 foot 7.Ill never weigh 153 as BM dictates even when I was fit my legs where over developed . Ill be happy if I can settle at 180 to 220. Not sure how tall you are but 240 sounds ok for you, you may not be as far off as ya think.

    Hi, your video was very helpful when I had my surgery and it prepared me for the post-op effects...I'm now about 18 months out and have lost 100 lbs, but have gained back about 8 pounds. Year 2 is definitely different from Year 1. But would love to know how you are doing now.

    Concerning your Carbs. Have you ever read the book, "Wheat Belly" and/or "Grain Brain"? Great info concerning Carbs and interesting. I lost 60 lbs after reading Wheat Belly but eventually gained it back after I started eating all carbs again. My opinion, Carbs are the Devil. Thanks for the videos. I have a couple of friends suggesting your surgery.

    I haven't seen your other videos, this was a nice update. I was wondering how the future is gonna play out with this sleeve. I'm a stay home mom so I don't see many people to get that many compliments. I try to tell my self that maybe it's because I now look normal, not fat and not extremely skinny. I just wanted you to know that not having ever seen you before. To me you do look like just a normal man, not fat and not skinny.

    Hi. Thanks so much for sharing your videos. I'm 2 months away from my surgery and I'm curious about the weight gain. My doctor was clear from the beginning that gaining weight is definitely a possibility, so i was wondering if you wouldn't mind sharing what you think you did (or didn't do) to gain some of the weight back. Thanks again.
