  • This video explains how the Blend Poses by Bool and Blend Poses by Enum work (and also Blend Poses by Int, I guess)
    The examples I give are very broad but there will come a time that you will understand when and where to use these functions. Blend by Enum is extremely handy for having multiple animation sets for different weapon types that require different animations, and Blend by Bool is great when you've created an animation feature that you need to turn on and off smoothly. If you use these nodes in your projects, please share what you use them for in the comments!

    Awesome, I really love that there is blend posses by enum, I love enums because they allow me to abstract information, making it easier to follow, this is really epic thanks :)

      Yeah it's really handy, especially if you're using those Enums for other things anyway like "Current Weapon Type" or "Movement Type"

    Absolutely in love with your dev logs, I stumbled across you just a month or so ago, and I’m so glad I have, and I mean that truly. I’ve been binging all your videos for a little while now, and I’m just in love with them all, really gives me some light to start doing my own this year (I hope) haha, awesome videos as always brother, and thanks so much for the awesome logs! : )

    No matter what I do for some reason the animation plays on the whole body despite specifying the bone - and wont stop playing after I let go of the key. Im wondering if this method is compatible with lyra :(

    is there any way to reorder the pins on a Blend Poses By Enum? Outside of deleting then and re-adding in a different order?

    As someone who's dipping into animation for my own indie project, I'm not sure why you're turning off ik to begin with... Don't know much about animation so anything would be a help. Using advanced locomotion and tweaking the presets a bit, most likely. Is that a decent solution?

    • @PrismaticaDev
      @PrismaticaDev  3 года назад +3

      The reason I turn IK off in some instances is because it can cause some "hiccupping" and popping depending on where it is in the animation chain, particularly when jumping and the feet leave the ground/landing when the feet get close to the ground again.
      I think ALS is great for when you're prototyping other parts of your project, but I'd highly recommend learning how to set up your own animation graph since ALS is preeetty hefty and doesn't scale to multiple characters very well in terms of performance, and it's also really hard to expand upon. By the time you learn how to add/remove/customise the things inside ALS, you could have your own system up and running.
      That's just my opinion, of course, but having my own Anim system has really opened up a tonne of possibilities for my game :)

      @Freek314 3 года назад +1

      @@PrismaticaDev Thanks so much for the response! While I am simply prototyping right now, you've definitely given me a lot to think about... I'll be watching your videos and others dealing with animation once that time comes. I hope that we can both be at a point where we can work together someday!

    so Im facing an issue with the whole blend poses with enum .....
    whenever it uses that to change btw states ..... as in it plays a small portion (2 or 3 frames) of the previous animation during the shift from 1 state to the next......
    when i rolled back to a normal animation transition, it worked perfectly as it should've but when using blend using enum it always gets buggy.....
    any ideas ?

    • @PrismaticaDev

      Hey hey! What exactly are you blending? How does it look if you set the blend times to 0?

    • @maddened3746
      @maddened3746 Год назад

      @@PrismaticaDev it still looks like it tries to play a small portion of the previous frame, after starting into the next state...
      Im trying to blend player state animations ...
      so when he goes from ground state -> jump state ... he plays the previous state animation for 2-3 frames ...
      same for going from landing anim to groundlocomotion

    You are irritated because you did not learn the software, and as a result, those who follow you may believe that Blender is not suitable for animation.I believe your comparison is quite poor. You may claim that you are not comparing, but you are because you are referring to how simple and efficient things are in Maya. It's like a bike rider reviewing cars and stating they can't do this or that (you favour bikes because you enjoy riding it and have spent time learning it).
    I used maya for about 7-8 years and have now been using blender for about 2 years. It took some time to figure out how to do things in blender, but once you do, it feels so natural, and believe me, I recently finished a shot in maya and I don't know how many times I've regretted using maya instead of blender.
