I dont know if it's just me, but theres something very nostalgic about seeing and hearing an old Grandfather clock, That a Family sat around the clock in the 1700s and 1800s, And we can listening to the same clock today ,And the skill of the man who built it ,The intricate gears and movements without todays advanced modern tools and machinery ,Its Incredible If you think about it
i knew those old clocks told a story and if they could talk what stories they would tell. i have 1 grandfather clock and i love it. and i go out on weekends and look for vintage clocks at thrift stores and have found some gold mines..
Wonderful melodies! When these clocks play melodies and strike the hours it is pleasant to hear. Nowadays some quartz clocks electronically imitates the same because they contains electronically recorded and programmed circuit board of sound chips connected to speaker. But they can't beat these real chimes and music-boxes.
15:45 stereo music long case grandfather clock. Thank you it was an intersting video and fantastic craftman work. I have puchased one Cirencester, but it is not as beautilful as these fantatic clocks. But it’s Ok and I like old clocks.
Enjoyed this, very much. Such wonderful old clocks, thanks Gary. Wondering if perhaps your Ass't Curator has digitized recordings of these musical movements?
I still struggling to find one on eBay. Last time I lost an auction. After that auction there is no similiar auction again because of item rarity. Next time I must won one.
It's amazing to see these wonderful (valuable) pieces, but I wonder why so many of the dials look so shabby and stained. Is this mostly just an "American thing" to keep dials ratty rather than have them kept beautifully cleaned and silvered?
+sooth15 The dial of the clock is like it's soul. Shabby to some, the mystery time travel to others. The wisdom not to touch up it's testimony is found from those who have learned not to the hard way. Re painted -whited dials are soulless as a plastic Walmart quartz clock. Stripped of truth for eternity.
RJSoftware2000 I agree that repainted dials are a sin, I was mainly talking about the brass dial clocks which are normally kept with a silvered chapter ring, or full silver if they are flat engraved brass. It's very common on UK clocks to keep the silvering on the dial in good condition, and it really improves the look of the clock as well as the legibility of the numerals when the silvering is in good shape. The first clock shown is a good example of a nicely silvered dial, while some like the one around the 3:20 mark look terrible. The one at 3:30 has no silvering left, and the next one isn't much better, etc.

Your knowledge of clocks quality and makers makes this really good film
Really an astonishing exhibit. I wish the video were three times as long. Glorious taste, function, craftsmanship. The pinnacle of American design.
Amazing collection!

Great episode.....clearly gathering these and showing them took a great deal of work and effort. Much appreciated!
a wonderful presentation, thank you very much.
Wonderful collection of clocks. I can't imagine how much care must be involved in moving these clocks to the location of the exhibit.
Thank you for this interesting video
I love old clocks! Quartz movement just isn't the same....even the ticking on quartz clocks isn't quite the same....love the mechanical movement!
I really enjoyed these clocks, did not know that there were all these American musical longcase clocks made. Thank you so much for this video
Awesome ........ I love these old watches, but one wall clock or just a dream for me,
It is amazing to see this collection of rare grand father clocks under one roof.

Would love to hear the George Long tall clock with the dulcimer musical movement. Saw it sold at Sotheby's in 2008 for $100K!!!
Amazing!

A nocturne is a quiet piece of music which suggests the night.
The word "nocturnal" means "night."
Thank you.

Super eye you have ! Great observation on your part !
Great eye! I never noticed it.
My mouth is drooling with saliva. Let me get a tissue.
Wish he had played the clock with the comb instead of bells, especially since it was the only one they had. Was it not functional?
♥️
Lindo demais, tenho vontade de possuir um desses na minha na parede da sala, mas é impossível né, PQ é muito caro, quero um bem simples
