  • Indian fashion makeover! Is a trip to India complete if you haven't felt the incredible transformative power and beauty that the draping of a traditional saree creates?
There is so much time and detail that is taken when dressing in the traditional Indian saree. There are so many different styles and ways to wear a saree (sari) depending on the ceremony, the provincial traditions, the holidays and even the colour!
This is our FIRST TIME in India and after traveling full time and living out of a suitcase for 3 years it felt SO nice to just be girls being girls. One thing I miss most is a vast ware drobe that the non nomadic lifestyle allows for!
I've never been very feminine preferring comfort and practicality but the moment this is draped it connects with you and you can't help but stand a little taller and feel more regal!
Sadly, this draping wasn't as informative as we'd hoped so if you have any information or recommendations to share about sarees please do share in the comments section!

If you ladies are looking for affordable luxurious sarees, visit Dadar West in Mumbai, there's one big emporium of sarees, but I can't remember the name, something like Duniya Sarees. And you ladies should also take advantage of buying shawls, the Kasmiri pashminas are so beautiful, and many of them are affordable too, I like the pashminas with paisley designs, bought quite a lot for some friends and colleagues, even gave one to the ex big boss of my former employer, MIDA.

You ladies also reminded me of some gorgeous Indian ladies that I met at a corridor who were taking a brreak from wedding in the prestigious Taj Palace Hotel, Mumbai. They were as gorgeous as the Bollywood top actresses.

That's very kind of you I am sure they must have appreciated that! Yes I have a few pashminas in Canada actually. They are so so so soft! Leon and I won't be in Mumbai this India trip but I will add it to our places to visit when we return. Thanks as always for the recommendations.

Lucky you! Yes while these sarees were nice they were not of good quality but the experience was nice. On my next India trip I will definitely buy a proper saree of nice quality.

Please avoid the Golden Triangle and visit places like Ladakh in North, Manali, Kolkata, Assam, Meghalaya in North-East and Mysore, Hampi, Ooty, Pondicherry, Kerala in South...more cleaner, greener, relaxing, calmer and tasty non-vegetarian options too♥️

Yes and we loved it. I see how it could be time consuming and possibly impractical to wear every day but I loved the experience. We felt instantly beautiful. Thank you for watching.

That green Sari went perfectly with your green blouse. Maybe they chose the saree's based on the color of your blouse. Your friend had a black blouse so her sari matched her blouse.
Also you could have asked the receptionist to help you learn another style of wearing a sari and she would have shown you. I guess she did not do it because you would forget it anyway, also the style your wore it in did help your overall look. That style suited your body type.

Oh yes for sure! Our only criticism is that because it was a booking that we paid for in advance that advertised ‘choose your dress from many colours’ and ‘we will show you many ways to wear a saree from different provinces’ we felt that neither of those things were offered… it’s never fun to not get what you are paying for.
The blouses were part of the outfit. It came with the shirt, skirts and main wrap/saree. She only offered the 2 options and only the same sizes and only one of each colour.
Regardless it was a lovely experience ❤️

@@JennandLeon Sorry you had to go through that, but you still got a better deal. "black" is not an auspicious color in India. It is certainly not advisable to wear a black sari in India. Like a black funeral dress in the west.
Though the funeral dress in India is White, Men wear white even during regular occasion and during "Holi" (color festival) celebration. Women don't wear white sari since its a dress for Widows.
Your Sari material seems like chiffon and a Chiffon Bandhani sari sells for around 18 to 20 Pounds. You can get Silk Bandhani saris for 14 to 20 pounds. You might want to check it out.

@@JennandLeon I hope you go to Udaipur which is one of the most beautiful cities of Rajasthan.
Jodhpur is another city similar to Jaipur and there are hotels built into the forts there.
Jaisalmer is good for experience the desert lifestyle and camel rides.
Gujarat state has 6 UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The highest in India. It also has the worlds tallest statue "Statue of Unity" in Kevadia and a new luxury heritage train that run on Sundays that will take you there. Very affordable if you can get the ticket. Would be a great experience and will make a great vlog. All the best.
