- This is my review of the Fender Mustang LT50 practice amplifier. The Fender Mustang LT50 is a 50-watt amplifier with many effects built-in and comes loaded with a 12" speaker. The Fender Mustang LT50 is a 50-watt digital modeling amplifier designed to re-create great tones from many different amps. This amplifier is a great beginner or practice amplifier for someone looking for a versatile option.

I went with the LT25. The LT25 has a smaller speaker but don't let that fool you. It has a closed back and sounds great! The tuner is excellent!
I picked I one of the lt25’s for home practice because even my boss katana 50 watt still rips loud at low volumes - the fender amp sounds great on the. Clean fender models and the built in fx are solid
I picked the lt50 because the lt25 didn't have a knob for mid. Just bass and treble. Also if I remember correctly it didn't have an audio out?
What do you think?
@@keenansutherland7690 I sold the lt25 because I didn't like it.. but it has middle when you go into the menu.
@@arto9775 which ones the better one lt25 or lt50? I'm confused
That was a great review . Thank you so much for that❤️👍☘️
I like that mythic crunch. Excellent blues improv. Good well informative video
I've had one of these for a few years now. A great modeling amp that was a real gateway into pedals, as it made me want to explore effects.
Sounding great . Classic rock setting was really nice. Great demo Shane.
WOW. Such awesome sounding Amp and playing as always Shane. Very Cool. Thankyou.
I own the LT-25 and plan to sell it and upgrade to the 50. Shane didn't get into the Fender Tone software, to me that is one of the best features of this amp. Only the 25 and 50 use the software. It gives a graphic representation (on your computer screen) of each preset and lets you change each variable, knob and switch with your mouse, much easier to mod the presets. But Shane did a nice demo of some of the presets, he made them sound fantastic! For $250US I think it's a great amp!
i bought this as a practice amp, i never use presets on anything digital they are always shite, i build my patches from the ground up and i was amazed at what this thing sounds like for the money if you spend some time with it, it put my old roland cube 60 to shame and thats high praise
I would rate the Fender Mustang LT50 a solid 8/10. The amp is rated at 50 watts, and with a 12-inch speaker it delivers a decent and fairly loud sound. Although it lacks Bluetooth connectivity, it does have a versatile range of built-in tones that can easily be customized. The amp's clean tones are crisp and bright, while its heavy tones have a good amount of gain. The built-in tuner is also a nice touch.
Overall, the Fender Mustang LT50 is a great option for those looking for a lightweight and versatile combo amp. Its presets are mostly of high quality and can be easily manipulated, and its 50-watt power is more than enough for practice sessions, small gigs, and rehearsals. The lack of dedicated reverb control and the use of a micro-USB port instead of a USB-C port are minor issues, but overall, the Fender Mustang LT50 is a solid choice for those looking for a versatile and fun practice amp.
Are there any amps of similar value with a reverb control / bluetooth connectivity that you'd recommend? Looking to upgrade from a beginner amp to a solid mid tier amp that can get me going for the next few years of playing growth.
Another great video Shane. So tell us, what IS your favorite practice amp?
When I owned the GT40, one thing I really enjoyed was the amount of different amp and tone options that I could choose from. It was like a sampler of a variety of tones. This LT50 seems to have that vibe with more power. For a practice/first amp, this a great amp to play with, especially if you don’t have many effect pedals. 🎸🎸🎸😎😎😎😎
I still have GT40 with footswitch and exp pedal and i love it, ppl have lot of bad things to say about how it sound etc, but i don't get it, for the price is one of the best practice amps, lots of great sounds, buit-in looper with footswitch, you can test all effectes in one small amp, bluetooth to connect with phone to stream music and play along. I will not sell it because i don't see any reasonable replacemant for it now. I know that now we have new Sparks or very expensive Yamaha THR series, i play both and maybe they sound better (i can argue if Spark sounds better) but they cost more and don't offer a lot more.
I owned Fender mustang GT40 as well they don't sound good in default a bit muddy and boxy flavor ,you have to tweak it to find the tone your looking . The speaker doesn't sound that bad actually but it's way better if you connect to a good PA or studio monitor.
I do like the look of the Mustang amps. But I’m invested in my Line 6 pedals so I’m still debating what amp to get for practice.
Awesome Shane. V interested in this amp
hi, thanks Shane,... so how does it compare to your old gold standard for modeling amps? the mustangs 3 o 4 v3?
How do you think this amp might do with lower frequencies? I'm wondering if it would be a good pairing with a Bass VI (not too excited about the modeling options in the Rumble LTs).
So does this line not have any options to use a looper behind the affects? No send AND return ports?
There's a lot of great practice amps and this is great review of a good one. Hard to beat a spark tho for practice. Amazing time for guitarists. I wish I had all these options in the 80s, my back and bank account might be better.
Everything on the LT25 and 50 can be edited right on the amp, so you don't need to connect to your PC to adjust anything. If you want to try out all of the 99 factory presets then you need to connect it. They also do awesome sounding direct recording to your DAW using the USB out.
Fair review. There are usb adapters to computer adapter cables.
He nailed that little champ tone with that short rift of eric clapton's layla. ;)
Would you recommend this amp to use with a multifx pedal for band (small size garage type band) practice. Any others? I think 50W is necessary. Thanks.
the Champion Amp Cranked cracks me up.
I use mine every week to gig with. Since half the band is using in-ears this works great with the line out into the board. The tones are great, the amp is plenty loud to gig with and sounds great. I wouldn't call it a practice amp at all, this amp is gig worthy and light enough for an old guy like me to not break my back carrying my old Twin Reverb or my 85# Peavey combo amp. And I don't need a pedal board anymore I have all my edited presets lined up. I'd recommend this amp for those who want to keep the stage volume down and want something easy on their back.
Is this really a gig worthy amp?
It's probably more gig worthy than a $2000 tube amp that is subject to climate change and tubes burning out or burning up due to speaker ohm settings ....Jesus for the cost you could buy 3 and have 2 backups...and at 20 pounds you could carry 2 at once
Got a question I so far can't find an answer to.
Does the master volume get stored in the preset or is it a global (stand alone?) setting for the amps power (attentuator kinda)?
Tried a Boss Dual Cube and even ran through line outs on this amp it effects the power amp (speakers of the amp) not the line out level.
TIA.
you think the fender gtx100 is way better than this lt50? i am debating between the two since i found some good deals on craigslist
I JUST pulled the trigger on this one after being torn between the smaller 25watt and this one. I figured this speaker size would offer more of a dynamic range of tones and of course will be a little bit louder.
Why not gtx50?
does the mgx4 footswitch work for this amp or not? O already have this amp, although i need a footswitch...
Inside Shane is a shredder just waiting to come out
I’ve been using this for like 6 years or so now pretty much my entire guitar player career or whatever you wanna call it and for 150 bucks this thing kick ass seriously. That thrash overkill preset has got to be one of the best I’ve legit gotten compliments about my tone over the internet recorded on my phone 😂. It’s a great amp for real for 170 or so bucks you get more versatility then you could ever hope to get for such a price tag. A no brainer purchase for any beginner guitarist I’d say. Definitely getting to the point where I’m ready to move on. Looking at a vox ac30 next.
I just bought it, does the mgx4 footswitch work with this amp or not? I'm looking forward to grt one...
I have the LT25. It is one of my ALL-TIME go-to amps for jamming. This is a great series of amps, so don't underestimate them! Nice tones in these, for sure. You can update the firmware and get more "slots" to create more tones in there, and also you can connect it to your computer to run the "Fender Tone" software, which is kind of like having Bias FX 2 without the high price of admission - amazing, but that old antique micro-usb connector kind of sucks. If you get one of these amps, be careful not to bend/break that connector! It is the only way to update the firmware, and connect it to your computer to get the use out of the software (if you care about that kind of stuff). You can still create great tones right from the front of the amps pretty easily, to get good, beautiful, usable tones pretty easily. The OOTB tones aren't bad either! Thanks for the review, Shane. I might have to look at upgrading to a 50, if it isn't too expensive. Hope you are doing well man.
any advice about reducing buzz/noise?
The Chuner works perfectly
Haha
how would you rate it against the Fender gtx50 is the lt50 worth buying or go with the GTX, i've been taking a break for a couple of years due to health issues so its time to get back into it, so I'm tossing up between the lt50, gtx50, and the boss katana 50 I'm after a good all round, guitar I'm buy the artist AP59 to get me started
Really sounds good, especially with the Stratocaster and Tele.
Does it get loud enough to compete with drums?
How does it compare to Boss Katana MKII?
is this amp loud enough in small gigs when your playing and singing?
Thanks Shane - I notice you never seem to use your kiesel guitar lately. Do you still have it?
Yep, I love that guitar. It's kind of whatever is out at the time for my videos. It's on the next few coming up.
+1 Cool! But - Katana-50 vs LT50? Thanks!
Sounds good recorded! How does it feel in the room?
Also, have you considered a retro tech video? I’d love to hear a modern recording of the fender cyber twin for example. There aren’t many well recorded examples on the web (maybe for a reason? Lol). Be fun to compare to the latest mustang for example
Great demo! I have the LT25 as my bedroom amp. The Princeton model is unbelievably convincing. I keep one preset just off-clean and another with it hit with the “Klon” model and some delay and swap them with a footswitch. With a Strat or my LP Special with P90s, it makes some truly album-worthy tones. Fender did this one right!
are these fender digital amps worth getting for the clean tones when compared to katana and spark etc
Ive got both the Katana II 50 and the LT25 version of this amp. Very different clean tones to my ears.
Surprisingly GOOD! \m/
I have had this amp for a couple of years and use it in a band setting with 4 other musicians. It works fine and is certainly loud enough. I built a series of tone settings around the Fender Deluxe, and again the built in effects - Reverb, Chorus, Delay, Flanger are all useable as they are adjustable. This amp takes pedals well. Enjoy!
Can it get louder than drums?
yeah dedicated Reverb, Delay and Octave would have been a complete bless for me tormented Doom Metaller soul...
I just got an fender LT50 and the tuner does not work. It’s turns on and I pick and pick and pick and nothing happens
It seems to do all the “fender” tones well, hmmmmmm wonder why.😎
Hey Shane nice playing as usual!
I do think you missed out a bit on this review. The real fun bit with this amp is plugging into your computer and using fender tone. Its fantastic. so simple to use. get yourself a cable and another go!
I commented on that at the end 😎👍
It lacks dedicated reverb, xlr out and an xlr microphone 🎤 input. Add these 3 and it would be the star of the show in affordable practice amps. Designer dropped the ball, too bad so sad 😔 because it does have good tone. Especially for blues. Not keen on the head banger metal lead. Reminds me of Bevis and Butt-Head. The muddy waters setting is cool 😎
Its been a while since I've watched your videos mate but good god I forgot how good a bluesman you were.
If you run a noise gate through the mustang is the noise gate bypassed and then rendered useless?
It has a good built-in noise gate, no need for an external one. If that was your question.
I prefer the Mustang 3 and 4 by far...
Thanks for the demo!
Those are way better amps for sure. I stopped comparing them to the new series because these aren't the same type of quality.
@@intheblues right on, Shane! I planned purchase another Mustang 3...and by the other hand i purchased a 1992 Peavey Renown 400 USA with 2 Scorpions...watch out with this great amp!
Hmm just getting into it and haven't heard those yet will check thx. Looking for a home practice for 200 or less
@@inthebluesdo you still have the site for downloading your mustang patches?
@@intheblues This AMP vs the Champion 50XL?
Robin Trower sounds….Awesome….
I’m hoping that fender will have a refreshed Mustang 50 and 100 at Nam in a few weeks.
The 100 has a foot switch but the 2 amps seem identical
No refresh unfortunately
which amp sounds better to you fender mustang lt 50 or boss katana 50?
When I decided to purchase an amp I was offered these two models in the guitar shop. I tried these back and forth for more than an hour. Honestly, I was enjoyed always the one that I actually used. Both amps are very good. Finally I made a choice with Fender. The reason: this amp has a full interface for settings, and for Katana you more likely need a computer to set everything that you can easily do with the Mustang. The Fender seemed more practical to me with its full control over the settings which you can alter even on the stage. (but it also has a computer interface, anyway) I don't regret my choice. I have the Fender at home, and I use the music school's Katana while I am on my study - hence I have a continuous control on these two amps and I still believe that the Fender is the better for me. If you have any more questions on the Fender, put it to the comments.
This looks fun but not enough that I will switch from my Vox Valvetronix.
Does the fender 1 button footswitch work on this amp?
This guy is an a hole never reponds to questions.
Ele tem saída de linha?
After watching your review. I went out and bought one. One killer amp. The two other guitarist in the band have to buying and selling off their amps, and can’t come close to filling a room like this little guy. I prefer it over my 1,000 watt amp !!
Why not gtx50?
Hey Shane, did you ever try the GT series with the latest v3 firmware?
I don't think I did try one with the latest firmware but I might revisit it coming up :)
Hey mate, thanks for the video. As I commented in that 9 year old video you never know when these resources are going to be useful, maybe in 10 years someone is considering this amp and this will still be useful to them. Mad innit?
Fender mustang gtx !
Compared to the Champion?
The only reason to buy a Champion over the Mustang, is if you want to dial in your tone using only knobs. I feel the Champion (I have the Champion 40 model) sounds a bit muffled compared to the Mustang. You can add up to four different effects on the Mustang, where you can only add one effect (sometimes 2 reverb+chorus and delay+reverb) on the Champion. Mustang gives you Treble, Mid, and Bass adjustments whereas Champion only has Treble and Bass. Mustang has a line out, Champion doesn't. For $20 more you get so much more value out of the Mustang.
Fender Mustang LT50 or boss katana?
I have the Katana 50 Mk ii, my son has the Fender LT50. There are pro's and cons to both. Tone wise I prefer the Katana, the range of effects available is superior to the Fender. Also, Boss has a great community where you can download patches to your Katana, the LT 50 only provides about 100 patches from Fender. However, the LCD display and user input of the Fender makes all the effects and their settings available without connecting to a computer, where as the Katana requires a computer . Second point, the optional MGT-4 footswitch on the Fender is superior to the optional FS 6 footswitch of the Katana, including tuning your guitar from the footswitch, turning on/off effects etc. If having your amp connected to a computer is not a deal breaker for you, go Katana, otherwise Fender is a more flexible choice.....both are good.
Does the fender champion 50xl sound better than the mustang lt50? Thanks in advance!
The GTX series sounds much better to me when I compared them both, but they are both solid.
Any tone modelling amp would give a sound like a prerecorded music played through a cheap hifi. It won't give you the thrill like a live sound would. I have tried many models. Not for me. Rather have a cheap vox pathfinder 15 or JC22.
Lol. Yeah. Your raw amp , run through a microphone then a compressor and eq and the P.A.s Reverb.... no tone modeling or processing there. Sorry...im 62 I've played ALL kinds of set ups...and frankly all you need is a core guitar tone and a PA to make it work...I use empty Marshall cabinets to carry my gear and wires in...people think I'm playing a marshall stack...but it sounds better than a stack
Bummer that it doesn't have a FX Loop. Blues On....💙

Nice amp at a reasonable price for practicing.

Fender always give the best bang for the buck. I wish I could agree with their aesthetics more but...
Does an amp review - and mics it up lol
Sounds very digital and weak, except the Country Pickin' preset sounded good on here.
We're you listening on your phone?
@@floodgatestudios1825 On my bluetooth speaker most likely. I've also played one at a store and had the same opinion. If you like it, great!
Gnarly a.f. :)
I had this amp and sold it. It sounds good and is versatile but be aware that it is very difficult to use at bedroom volumes. It is too powerful. The volume knob isn't sensitive enough. The difference in the knob setting between off and too loud is almost nothing.
Great amps (the 50 & 25) but c’mon man you can make a pile of cr@p sound good.
I had that combo at home and it sounded like pure mud and a terribly flat sound. Honestly, the sound like in these videos cannot be achieved from over-the-counter combos. Either there they give a higher quality fender version other than what they sell in stores. Solution: I immediately returned it to the store within 14 days.
