So very beautiful. I was born with hip dysplasia and spina bifida.
The hip dysplasia wasnt caught until about age 6, by age 8, I underwent my first corrective surgery, a triple innonimate osteotomy of my Left pelvis, where they cut in 3 places (from front to back) and put metal screws and put in a full length body cast from the tips of my toes to the top of my chest and a bar separating my legs apart and a hole cut out to go to the bathroom. I spent 8 and 1/2 months inside of it which the first 3 and a 1/2 were in the hospital. After the cast came off and I learned how to rewalk through an army vet who had a prosthetic leg.... because by this point I was in a group home. I never received medical attention after the removal of that cast and removal of the 4 metal rods until much later in life, after marrying my current husband of 23 years. I think it was about age 42 when an orthopedic doctor examining me informed and I was 1st diagnosed with spina bifida.
Oddly enough, both hip dysplasia and spina bifida go hand in hand and are "birth defects".
I love this story because I have always danced on the inside.
    Ty Jhe.
