    BAMBOO for BUSHCRAFT: STAKES
    Bamboo makes an amazing resource for bushcraft projects. One possibility is to make a set of first class stakes. It is quite simple and depending on the diameter of bamboo you use you can scale up or down on the size of stakes you craft.

    Very neat idea use to make spears out of the bamboo as kids and go carp fishing in the backwaters.

    • @blackhatbushcraft
      @blackhatbushcraft  5 месяцев назад +1

      YES! Simple things like that brought us so much joy as kids! I guess I have grown up to still be a big kid building shelters in the woods and improvising weapons from sticks and bamboo 😀I will probably have an episode with something similar in this series. Thank you for tuning in.

    When they dry out and turn brown, you can scrape them with the spine of your knife and get super fine tinder

    • @blackhatbushcraft
      @blackhatbushcraft  5 месяцев назад

      Yes indeed! It makes a first class tinder, I actually have some brown piece I was able to cut from the center of the bamboo "forest" that I harvested from. It will be in a video very soon as well. Thank you for tuning in and sharing!

    Good to see you back in RUclips land, Matt! Those are some pretty tent stakes, brother. I've only seen a few videos on using bamboo for friction fire, so this will be refreshing. Your knife work is as clean as ever on this one. I've been enjoying seeing the pics of the classes you've been instructing (congrats on the class size!) and look forward to this upcoming series. Thanks for sharing, Matt!

    • @blackhatbushcraft
      @blackhatbushcraft  5 месяцев назад

      It grows well here but only in select areas where it has been introduced. It is some very versatile stuff so I really want some on my property. I am told that it would be a mistake as it is invasive. It would be worth it I think lol. Thank you for tuning in.

      You're right about that. But it's not too bad and I live in the South. It's just hard to stop it once it starts. But you can always go into the Cane Pole business. LOL

    Bamboo is a multitasker for sure! What pack basket is that? I am considering using one.

    • @blackhatbushcraft
      @blackhatbushcraft  5 месяцев назад

      I only wish I had more bamboo available to me! It is great stuff. This basket is the 18" pack basket by Loring Pack Baskets in Maine. It is made of a very tough synthetic material. It is somewhat indestructible. If you get it all muddy, just spray it off with the hose. I cannot say enough good about it. I am a big fan. Also, they make multiple sizes. For wooden baskets, I have enjoyed mine made by a company called Pack Baskets of Maine. I'd be curious of your thoughts if you get one. Take care!
