As a Target employee who stocks bullseye, THANK YOU. I hate seeing people buy items that I know are quickly going to end up in a garage for years or in the trash almost immediately.
I recently went to my local thrift store and found by the cashier a whole shelf of blank lined notebooks and compositional journals for $0.50 each!! Would definitely recommend looking around to avoid the trap of constantly purchasing new notebooks!
I literally am still using a binder I got in jr high, and I'm 32. I use it weekly for d&d. School supplies can last a super long time. If you have to buy new, pick something sturdy and easily sanitizable. I was at a Value Vault today, which is basically where all that stock from Target goes when it goes out of season, and that store was STUFFED with all sorts of those $5 and Less section junk. I love that section too, but it's heartbreaking to see how much junk is made, never sold, and then thrown away.
I would totally buy that mini locker for my dolls, to hold their custom clothing nicely. But I'm not sure what I'd use it for in an actual school setting, funnily enough.
I grew up in a family where we read the back to school lists and were surprised when we saw parents buying all new items when last year's list was basically the same. It was so financially smart to just reuse perfectly good folders and especially colored pencils that your child uses only like a little bit through the year but then when they say they need it next year you have to buy them a whole new pack? I always just went to school with a pencil case full of old colored pencils that still worked just fine! I used to not like the fact that I didn't get to buy new things every year but now as an adult I'm very grateful that I was taught to be smart with my money and with the environment♻️🌻
The pasta maker is targeted towards college students. Especially students who live in the dorms. Because feeding yourself is an essential skill, but most dorms don’t provide adequate access to a kitchen.
And that’s great that it’s targeted for people who may need it. But you saying this doesn’t negate the fact that’s not the majority of who’s going to buy it. We all know it’s people who don’t need it. Plus, as a college kid, I’m gonna just boil water in a bowl/container I *already have*
A lot of the “just thrift” stuff is more expensive at a thrift store. The bins you showed are in the dollar section- it’s hard to convince people to find exactly what they want at the thrift when it’s used and sometimes equally or more expensive.
Again I’ll say. You saying this doesn’t automatically negate the fact the majority of people buying that are going to be the ones who don’t need it. People living alone, college kids like myself who are broke are going to use what we already have. This is just so gimmicky and unnecessary
I bought my kid a very nice pottery barn book bag and lunch box set last year, that he’ll be using again this year and probably next year. I only purchased what was on the list plus extras. Some kids unfortunately don’t get what they need so I did buy a lot of glue and extra crayons and pencils. I made sure to buy bulk tissues, hand sanitizer and wipes for the teacher.
That helped me realize how much things I ask for that are for school that I don’t actually need I just want so I don’t get made fun of or anything but thanks ❤❤
PhD here - I bought an Adidas backpack my freshman year of college. Dark Purple. (Fave color) Lifetime warranty. It lasted through all 10 years of college. There are some things that you can buy once. Paper, pens, folders you can expect to replace. A solid binder? Mine were expensive (think $15/each) but I literally just took my notes out, put them in a folder and put fresh paper in them every semester. They’re 10+ years old and are now being used for bills and taxes. I guess you just have to know what to invest in. My cost per semester on those binders was $0.75.
I’m so sick of seeing these comments lmao. I hate to break it to you, but your comment doesn’t automatically make people who don’t need these things not buy them. And it also doesn’t mean that they’re still unnecessary in this world. Do you know what poor college kids tend to do? We USE WHAT WE ALREADY HAVE WE SONT WASTE MONEY ON CRAP LIKE THAT
I go to college now, but when l was still going to primary, middle and highschool, l used to buy only new suplies every 2 years or so. Sometimes even every three years. I used to recycle what was leftover from previous years instead of buying and my backpacks were always wearable for up to 5 years if l washed it nice. My family liked buying my suplies with me, but thry asked me what l needed and or wanted instead of just buying stuff. I would go buy it with my granny and she would always ask and make sure l didn't need anything else. Now that l'm in college l do the same thing. And my currents backpack has been with me for 5 years now😊.
What annoyed me back when I was in school was that our school would tell us that we HAD to have a bunch of specific kinds of notebooks with a certain amount of pages, only for us to only use like half the book. I'd just use the same notebook for other future classes or for sketching for the remaining pages.
This reminds me of how my mum would only buy us plain stuff because A) it’s cheaper B) less likely to get stolen and also so she wouldn’t have to buy us new stuff every year, now I understand it but back then I wanted something cool and have some matching stuff. But the truth is, stuff lasts, you buy a pack of pink pencils and pens, the next year you’ll still have half left, just use them up, because by the time your 18 and leaving school you’ll have a bucket full of bags and pens and note books that you can’t use up lol. Just continue with the same note books and just put a little tag in them to Separate the years if you don’t want to rip out the pages, but either way use it up
I personally pick up a backpack that is simple (usually black). Then I add some stuff like pins and keychains from my old backpack and I’ll use it until the water bottle slots get holes in them. Last time my backpack made it two years so hopefully this new one will too.
Hey, why not made a video about “swaps” ?! Like host it in a park as a bbq & potluck picnic ?! Have a monthly one or once very 3 months where folks can meetup & bring things they don’t need / no longer use such as clothes, toys, shoes & school / office supplies. This saves money & the planet 🌎.
When I was at school, I used to get a new pencilcase and stationery every summer. Then i ended up with a box of like 5 spare pencilcases! Whats the need? Thanks for sharing.
The general lifespan of trash is what matters. If you buy one item that has a lifespan of 1 year before it becomes useless, it's better for the planet to get an item that has a lifespan of 3 years, since you'll only have bought one of that item in 3 years as opposed to 3 of the lower quality items in 3 years, which builds up a lot of trash over time and is what environmentalists are worried about when that's done at a large scale. It's also based how likely you would expect an item to be thrown away (either by you, on accident or the donation center that has a surplus of other items because people keep making short-loved purchases). If you spend $3 on an item you'll be more nonchalant about losing it on accident over a $30 item, etc.
In Germany, we go all the way up to 10th grade. So want the nineth grade and 8th grade hits you need to get. New binder slash folders, but the binders I got there were 4 my teacher. She got them from a lady who didn't want them anymore.
Have you ever thought that perhaps these “random novelty items you don’t need” could actually make someone really happy? And make there school time a bit more bearable if they are unhappy there
When I was done done with school and graduated from college, I went around my whole house and parent's and was able to fill up a box of unused school supplies to donate from the previous 12 years. I promise you you can use the same notebook with half the pages still blank from the year before.....
is it just me or do people who cover overconsumption really just suck the joy out of everything? “me and my kids are going back to school shopping!” “woooooow… i could never. you do you though. 😬” girl what.
you know what's really sucking the joy out of everything? these huge corporations who make more money than any of us will EVER see are filling the planet, our bodies, our waterways with plastic, our air with poison, destroying animals' habitats, enforcing slave labor all over the world. you tell me what's more important to you.
If I’m being honest, DO NOT GET A CHEAP BINDER, they will break very quickly (I had one that doesn’t even close properly after only using it for maybe a year).
We did reuse back pack if it didnt fall apart halfway through the year because we dont have lockers our school so we had to carry all of our books and everything we dont want stolen
Yeah, I had my backpack for two years and then I got stained and ripped and we got a new one the same one that will last another 2 to 3 years and it’s perfectly good and I used to do that, but I realized you don’t have to have new stuff to be cool
I would straight laugh at my kids face if she would ask for a new backpack each year, because I managed to get some crazy bargain on two kanken bags, regular and small one. Youre walking with it, untill it's fallen apart, honey
The fact some people need to be told this by a stranger on the internet in order to understand that. ESPECIALLY adults, like how tf is this targeted towards parents and not kids?? Jesus Christ. And the last one? “You don’t need to automatically buy everything new every year for no reason” does that really need mentioning?
Mostly what I bought each year new was just like what ever I had lost or broken during the year. So usually new pencils and erasors, but everything new? Who has that kind of money? That’s very very wasteful imo
The fact that what's your telling people as an advice is actually the norm to us everywhere else than USA😂 We don't use this much plastic , we don't have huge materialistic trends , we do reuse our good school supplies and kitchen supplies
I think you should not let her homeschool because in covid i homeschooled and when you go back to school you get scared to talk to people and i think you don't want that to happen to her and even if her ex is there that shouldn't stop her because she's better than both of them and she shouldn't let them bother her because if she's show's no reaction they will leave her alone but do what you think is good for her but my opinion is for her to go to school but you and her can do what you want 😊 also love your guys channel 😊
I always see a lot of kids and adults throwing away used items because they were broken and abused. Breaks my heart to see waste of material and money because of negligence.
As a Target employee who stocks bullseye, THANK YOU. I hate seeing people buy items that I know are quickly going to end up in a garage for years or in the trash almost immediately.
Whats ballseye
@handleisGG the section in at the entrance with a bunch of under $5 items that are to grab your attention because "its cheap and good value"
@@kibaanazuka332 ohh so it means at eye level 😂 gotchya thank you for explaining we don't use that word often outside of darts* in London lool
I would've loved those mini lockers for my Barbies when I was a kid! They're so cute!
This is the only valid use for these lockers tbh
Or my American girl dolls
@@ScroogieMcMoneyBagsI was thinking the same thing.

We had those mini lockers when we were kids and we LOVED THEM. We got little locks for them and hid candy from our siblings haha

exactly!!!
I go to the goodwill outlet bins and its cheaper to thrift if you pay by the pound
I think the microwave stuff is actually aimed at college kids tbh, but teachers I can see that as well.
I agree with everything except the pasta maker. Great for people who don’t have access to a stove or live alone
yeah because they deserve microplastics in their food!

if you have to say "PhD here" in front of all your words, you have zero confidence in those words, and you're probably insufferable to be around
Those pasta things are a godsend in college. It's all microwaves, you can't even have a coffee pot
The pasta microwave device is aimed at college students who have easier access to a microwave than stove
I’m so sick of seeing these comments lmao. I hate to break it to you, but your comment doesn’t automatically make people who don’t need these things not buy them. okay the locker is a like a decor for barbies or american girl doll

I used the same binders from middle school through college!
Some kid in i have in 2-5 period actually got all his teachers that locker and filled up with stuff, it was actually So sweet and a great idea

i NEED the mini locker
i need that locker as a splatoon collection 😂
I always used my binders until they were falling apart (which took some time as they were fairly good). That is when we needed to get new ones.
My haul this year was entirely from around my house, and I can’t help but feel so proud of myself 💛💚💚
i would def reuse all my school supplies if they were not destroyed and lost😭😭
This reminds me of how my mum would only buy us plain stuff because A) it’s cheaper B) less likely to get stolen and also so she wouldn’t have to buy us new stuff every year, now I understand it but back then I wanted something cool and have some matching stuff.

The only new thing I buy for school is folders because mine always fall apart from the previous year 😭BUT THIS VIDEO IS SO TRUE!!
When I was a kid we called it “being poor”.
I'm a teacher and I just got 5 binders, 2 standing folder holders and a mini whiteboard from an ex-teacher from this school
I have a mini locker to hold props for my dolls XD I agree that it seems kinda useless for school though
I used the same bookbag folders & notebooks from 9th grade all the way until my college graduation.
big point on not having to buy new every year! my son has had the same book bag since last year and we reused a bunch of folders
I personally pick up a backpack that is simple (usually black). Then I add some stuff like pins and keychains from my old backpack and I’ll use it until the water bottle slots get holes in them. Last time my backpack made it two years so hopefully this new one will too.

I will say I do get a new bag and lunch box every year but I reuse my folders and some times high lighters or expo markers ❤
is the bag unusable by the time the school year is over?
Love this
Exactly agree 👍🏼
if it’s still going into landfill one day anyway it shouldn’t matter if we buy it or not?
The general lifespan of trash is what matters. When I hear Stanley cup I think of the trophy and not the drink holder
Target school section: school stuff
Not even kidding but as a European why did I find wine in the back to school isle 💀
For the teachers.
i got the mini locker, painted it light pink and just keep it on display. its cute but waste of money 💀
The mini locker would get me so bad smh 😂
Been using the same lunch box for 3 year and second year using backpack
Have you ever thought that perhaps these “random novelty items you don’t need” could actually make someone really happy? And make there school time a bit more bearable if they are unhappy there
My friends think I’m weird for not buying a new pencil case every year 💀
Me and micro plastics are one, now. I've accepted that. 😊😆

I agree 100%
Nope, love the locker, and the bins. Gotta go to Target now!
is it just me or do people who cover overconsumption really just suck the joy out of everything? “me and my kids are going back to school shopping!” “woooooow… i could never. you do you though. 😬” girl what.

We got a small locker from goodwill thats made of real metal and put out spare keys and weed in it i love it

How do you expect me to use a folder that has a big rip in the middle we don’t just back to school shop for fun
she literally said only buy if you need a new one. obviously that doesn’t count in this scenario. you guys just want to argue with her for no reason
My school banned Stanleys-
Okay yes but youre lucky if a binder lasts a year 😂
I've used the same backpack for 7-8 years, this video was clearly not made for me:))
You can’t get microplastics from tupperware bro ;_;
