      @Overrevkev yeah I call those the in between f250s because the earlier gens were the same body style and in 99 they started the actual “superduty” truck you see today. I like those versions but I would rather it be a 6 or 8 lug setup because 7 is just too odd, but everything else on the truck is similar to a 10th Gen so the truck has good bones

      #TruckLifeProductions @Truck Life Productions I own a Ford Lariat 2002. Due to an accident it is at the
      dealershop. The VIN comes back as being built in Kansas, and that is it. !! FORD CANADA ( yes I have employee name) REFUSED to talk to me. My email to Ford Canada came back " We can not help" ICBC wants to junk my beautifully immaculate Lariat. Just the front drivers quarter panel repair and airbag replacement comes to more than the value of the truck as the VIN only reflects it is a f-150. I will NEVER let my truck be salvage. Any one can please help I am Lariat2002 on the Ford Forum. Pictures are there also.

    I'm in the market for a work truck and I'm eyeing at this generation of F150s... I really love how simple the truck is, both mechanically and the design. It's just difficult to find one that isn't completely rusted out here in the midwest.

    A couple months ago I got a 99 f150 4x4 xlt w/ the 5.4l for 2400 bucks. Just had to do alignment and change the starter. Badass truck, happy I own it. She has 435k miles and running strong. Has a rebuilt engine and pretty clean for her age. Got extra parts for her to install later down the road when I have down time.

    I have a 2000 XLT ,5 Speed Manual , 4.6 Short bed with 198,000 miles .Two inch lift in the front . Frickin love this truck!!! . I've been a tile contractor for 34 years . 21 years with this truck . I took a load to the dump and it weighed out at 1900 lbs. . When i went over the speed bump at the scales , my front tires came off the ground . Loaded the shit out of it 100s of times . On my second clutch , just changed the intake manifold gasket, plugs and coil packs . The heater stopped working about a year ago(blows enough heat to keep my feet warm in the winter), the odometer lights up when it wants to, the engine burns a quart of oil a month ,getting 12-13 mpg in the city, 18-20 mpg highway. Getting ready to do the parking brake pads , new rear rotors and pads. And the brake light stays on . Oh ya , the rear window leaks around the third tail light . Nothing a little gorilla tape cant fix . Gonna keep her alive as long as I can . Enjoyed the Video

      Thanks for sharing and that’s amazing. These trucks were certainly built to last especially if you keep them maintained they are straight up work horses. Between me and my Dad we have definitely put this truck through it’s paces and I know we’ve overloaded it plenty of times but it takes it. Definitely uses oil and has some leaks here but hey it is what it is 😂. Thanks for watching and stay tuned there will be more to come.

Should it be repaired from the outside or pull headliner and fix it inside? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Hahaha... I was JUST telling a couple friends that my 97 is probably more dependable than any $30,000 truck out there today so I know exactly what you're saying and you still see these EVERYWHERE BECAUSE of their reliability!!!
    I would rebuild or replace my engine if I had to too because this truck literally saved my life the day I bought it and I would do the same for her until I'm dead and gone lol...
    (And the exhausts are on all of them and 238,000 miles and internally strong but may need a fresh idle air control valve 😊).
    Thank you for your video. Much love to all those who also love their SOLID F150s or F250 7 lug heavy half's (I loved that one more than I realized until it was gone).
    Oh and DO get that issue fixed with your gear shifter. It's a broken shifting gasket right behind the column cover and when it goes bad bad you could end up rolling into someone or down a road when it's decided not to lock into park! Almost happened at the bank for me and that's when I said yup! It's time just fyi 👍

      Thanks for watching and thanks for the comment I am absolutely going to keep this truck forever and the fact that my dad owned it prior to me makes it even more sentimental, it’s awesome to hear stories from other fellow 10th Gen owners and how their truck has changed or made a great impact on their life. The F250 7lug trucks don’t get enough credit either but can definitely hold their own as well. Hope you get that idle air control valve situated soon and as far as the shifter and park situation I have fixed the problem and the shifter is a lot more stiff now and so far the truck has gone into park every time now. I had to tighten the torq head screw that connects the shifter cable to the bracket attached to the shifter handle. Easy fix and didn’t cost me a dime so I’m very pleased with that. I have since this video upgraded the truck and done many new things to with with bigger plans to do more down the road so be sure to check that out and stayed tuned for more to come on the truck. Thanks

    If you're getting a P1450 EVAP code, check that bleed solenoid underneath by the spare tire next to those EVAP canisters. They have filter screens and they plug up with dust and dirt... and or it's just no good. Also, if it is plugged up, odds are the right EVAP canister is also plugged up and restricted at the end where the solenoid goes into it. Either clean those two items if you're mechanical enough, or replace em'. The left EVAP canister should still be ok, as only the right one is subject to dirt because of the way the system is designed. As far as that shift indicator, those are adjustable by access from under the instrument cluster. You'll have to pull the little panel off to get too it but shouldn't be any need to remove the cluster for adjustment. I own a 97 4x4 off road, I'm very familiar with these trucks, I ended up overhauling my 4.6 due to defective head gaskets and exhaust manifolds and one slightly defective wrist pin, which was was due to predetination running on leaky head gaskets too long.

Unfortunately mine does have leaking pinion and wheel seals so that's a project I hope to tackle one day, but other than that it seems solid mechanically. Has just under 200k miles so I'm hoping there's plenty of life left in it.

  • @cowboy4333
    @cowboy4333 9 месяцев назад +1

    The tailgate issue is addressed on a you-tube post. Basically you have to remove the access plate on the inside of the tailgate. 10 hex screws on the inside. Then "reset" the two steal rods that go right & left to the latches. There is two (one to each side) rods that go to each latch. Over time the 2 rods slip thru the plastic holders which in effect are like the metal rods streached ( but they really slipped thru the plastic holders ) same result as if they "streched". Anyway you flip up the holders on the plastic holders - bring in -towards the center tailgate latch and flip the tabs back on lock. Then spray WD40 on the mechinism near the 2 latches at each far side of the tailgate. Spray WD40 on all moving parts. Test it, you may need to work the WD40 in a bit...but bottom line that fixes the tailgate wont open issue.

    Chevrolet started the round body style trend back in 91. My brother has one; a stepside. Ford rounded the F150 ia little bit in the mid 90’s to compete, but the complete redesign came in 97 which yielded an even more rounded body.

      @@TruckLifeProductions No problem. I figured you are way younger than me. Yea, that 91 Chevy Silverado stepside was VERY popular back then. Ford answered by rounding the current F150 at the time to compete. I still remember those TV commercials; Ford used special effects to show before and after how the new truck would look, but it still wasn’t as popular as the Chevy truck, IMO. The 97-2003 model was Ford’s final answer to the Silverado until both companies went back to a boxy style in the mid 2000’s

That’s insane and awesome, especially nowadays when people are getting absolutely SCREWED with vehicle prices. The ‘04 Expedition I bought was $6,000 from a “buy here, pay here” stealership!! They wouldn’t even come down on the price when I said I was paying cash for it. They were actually somewhat disappointed because they charge another $1,000 to the price AND get this….their financing interest rate is 29 PERCENT!!!!! It’s literally the absolute MAX they’re legally allowed to charge in the state of North Carolina. So if someone walked in who had to finance it, they’d be financing $7,000 at 29% interest for 36 months. That’s highway robbery as far as I’m concerned. Not to mention the prices of vehicles (especially trucks and SUV’s).

    I bought a 99 F150 about 10 years ago. We use it every day because it is so cheap to run. It has the 4.6 hooked up to the automatic. Other than changing the oil regularly and the trans oil once, it has needed no other maintenance and of course the engine air filter. Today, we went for a 4 hour drive one way to pick up a metal rack and it ran flawlessly. It has taken out 3 deer as it has an off road bumper on the front but you would never know it hit those deer. I do have a newer Lariat with all the options like heated and air conditioned seats and dual moon roof and in dash navigation, etc., etc. but the 99 is so cheap to run, it usually gets the nod to go anywhere.

    Motorcraft 5W-20 every spring for the ten years I've had it. Burns a couple quarts of oil between oil changes nowadays, but I check it before any longer trip, and top it off, if needed.

    I bought a 99 XLT 5.4 RWD with 190K miles on it as spare vehicle to haul stuff in. The truck had lived a hard life and run on a budget. After changing all fluids, doing a tune up with new coils, brakes, tires, rebuild the front end with control arms, ball joint, shocks, etc….it has been a solid truck. It spent over 18 years living outside in the Texas heat/sun but the interior did not fall apart like in most other vehicles. I get around 16 mpg which is impressive at over 200K miles now considering new trucks get similar or worse fuel economy. The only issue is having to add about half a quart of oil every 1000 miles or so…not bad for what it is.

    • @TruckLifeProductions
      @TruckLifeProductions  3 года назад

      Thanks for sharing and that’s sounds like a good truck especially now that you’ve give it some new goodies. That’s awesome to know that the interior was still in good shape especially in Texas. I know that’s right, they don’t make em like they used to, some of these older trucks can run circles around these newer ones and get better gas mileage doing it, I’ve even seen it myself with older trucks getting 15-20 mpg and have high miles, so I know you enjoy that. Yeah the 1/2qt every one 1k usually tends to happen to em all but it’s all good, I know I’d rather spend a few bucks on a qt of oil rather than a new truck payment and still get the same performance if not a little better.

    I will say this, I’ve always been called a “Ford guy” and without even realizing it, I just bought my 5th Ford vehicle last week. I had a 2012 Ford Fusion but some dumbass decided to use the turn only lane to try and get up to the stop light from a 1/ 4 away and ended up wiping out my entire front end, so they totaled it out. When I got the check it for $6500. Well long story short I ended up getting an ‘04 Ford Expedition XLT that is in unbelievable condition given the age. It only has 123,000 miles on it and I made sure that it had the 2 valve 5.4L V8 and not that POS 3V that a few people I know had and they had just problem after problem with it. So far I LOVE THIS “TRUCK” (I call it a “truck” because it’s essentially a 4 door F-150 with a cap on it). I am NOT a fan of that generation’s exterior design but you can’t really argue against its durability overall as well as its popularity. I remember it seemed like half of all truck owners had one of them or the Ford SuperDuty trucks when I was stationed up in Northern Alaska from ‘06-‘09. Great video Sir.

    I own a 2002 f150 crew cab 4 dr and it is great.. On that evap code youre getting heres a simple trick to know on those. With the key on check the 2 prong plug that goes to the purge vavlve under the hood and with a test light one of the wires should light it up, then go to the rear of the truck where the vent solenoid is at that vapor canister and there is another two prong plug that plugs into it and do the same check, nd if one of them isnt getting a connection check your fuses. On the 97 to 03 those are the only two things that can cause an evap code, because even if the purge valve is ss stuck colsed or open they will run a rich code or lean code only and if the hoses are cracked on those that doesnt even throw a code. One of those plugs isnt getting current, other than that change your gas cap. Heres something that makes me laugh about that joke system and that is if the purge valve is stuck closed under the hood and even if the canister is stopped up as long as those two plugs have current they wont throw a code and if the gas caps are abole to suck in air the ECM doesnt even know . Now if a purge valve under the hood is stuck open that will cause a lean code and only requires changing the purge valv. My purge valve is stuck closed plus my vapor canister is stopped up but bother my plugs are getting current and the gas cap provides enough suction that the tank never builds up vacuum, plus it throws no code or causes any engine light. My engine runs better with the purge valve stuck closed because when they open and close ot causes engine surge and they arent necessary at all, and the ECM only reads if those two pplugs are getting currente

    The Evap code may be because your fuel filler neck chipped at the fuel tank cap. That happens because the fuel filler neck is made of a plastic that isn't that strong and the fuel hose nozzle causes it to first crack, and then chip. Once that seal if broken, the evap code sets in.
    I replaced my fuel filler neck about 15 years ago, but that one is also cracked now. It will chip again if I'm not careful with it.

    Can we please discuss one other huge design flaw in these engines and I'm not talking about the oh so over mentioned launching of spark plugs, but the plastic timing chain tensioners and how when they go bad your option is basically brand new engine time because most shops won't touch the timing chains as there are no timing marks to be used to keep everything in time for replacement and also when said timing chain tensioners go bad, all of that plastic is going straight in the oil pump to get circulated throughout the entire engine, this is what I'm facing with an 03 4.6l Windsor triton V8 with the 8 bolt flywheel, this truck has roughly 260,000 miles on it and is the lariat super crew cab which is the base for the lightning and Harley Davidson package

    I just hate the way this gen looks. It was one of the last gens of ford that didnt have unecessary electronic crap though, so i dont exactly hate the truck just the look. I have a 2018 xlt with literally barebones features. Just bed liner, bluetooth, and hard cover. No infotainment, bench seat. Very simple and i love it to death. I bought it specifically because it was a 2018 xlt. Thats the best looking truck on the road which isnt obs or denali, in my opinion and 2018s are known to be one of fords best yrs.

      Yep not all the electronic junk, but mechanical it was on point despite the occasional plug ejection, well maintained these trucks would perform beyond standards. You have a good truck

      the look is unique enough that people are starting to like it again.. with a slight lift and some beefier tires these trucks look really cool in my opinion. Each to his own though!

      @@davedarling6512 ya ive seen some modified that i like. Especially if they have the flares on the side. I actually see a lightning every day.
      As stock though these ones are kinda meh appearance wise. I would be happy with one if i had it but i would definitely envy other trucks based on appearance. They last forever though, so the looks kinda dont matter if you own one.

    SMH the spark plug issue was ONLY in the first few years of these trucks. People always have to make a big deal about the few problems these trucks had. The threads were not deep enough for the aluminum heads these trucks had. Now I own a 03 with the 5.4 and it has 230k miles. Changed plugs like a normal vehicle and it’s really been a trouble free engine. Well the whole truck has . And if it dies tomorrow I still will honor it.

    • @TruckLifeProductions

      Yes definitely the shallow threads for the heads on a “new modular motor” of the time but maintenance is key on these trucks

    • @SuperDcopeland
      @SuperDcopeland Год назад

      @@TruckLifeProductions I mean I didn’t change the factory plugs till almost 100k . I haven’t kept up with the maintenance like I should but that goes to show how good of a truck it is.
