Pros
- Large drone that folds down to a very compact shape. Its shipping package is also very compact, making international shipment of this large drone easy and inexpensive. You might want to hang onto its package as a travel container for the drone.
- 1080p HD camera records directly to an onboard microSD card to avoid recording WiFi lag and frame dropping.
- GPS provides stabilized position hold, circle position, and return to home and landing capability.

Cons
- Uses 802.11 fifth generation (5G) WiFi. Not all phones or tablets have this capability. Before purchasing, it is very important to first verify that your phone is indeed 802.11ac capable.
- 1020 brushed motors. They will eventually need to be replaced. The motors are easily accessible, but will require soldering or splicing to replace (not plug in).
- Propellers are very low, and easily obstructed by ground objects, including grass. It's probanly a good idea to make it a habit of using the emergency stop immediately after a landing.
- Proprietary battery case.

The top off a sharpie pushed onto the leg makes a great leg extender on this drone. Adds about an inch and solves the blades too low issue. 4 Sharpies cheap solution!!

Nice drone 101. Pity they don't make snap-on extension for the legs..... or maybe make it 'invert' so that it lands upside down like the JJRC H22. Unfortunately it's a 'no-go' with me as it is 5g wifi and most of us have 2.4g in the UK :( Good video, Cheers :)

Qc 101 you have any updates on this bird? I really like how this one folds up! I think this would be great for pulling fishing line over trees for HF wire antennas. Plus the smaller package I could throw it in my off Rd buggy easier. The price is right which is great for me!
Why the didnt use brushless boggles my mind though! Must have had a surplus of old motors in a Chinese warehouse somewhere.
The new camo version is 5.8ghz only. Looks very cool but I'm not sure how 5.8ghz range is. If its like most bands the higher you go the more it suffers! Anything above 220 Mhz gives me a nose bleed! =]
I reviewed the Idea 7 and was pretty impressed by it and the Idea 9 looks like it may be even better. The Idea 9 camera is surprisingly good with nice detail and nearly no jello. Too bad it is fisheye though.
I've got one of these as a 'Proflight Orbit'. I had a day of semi-flyaways due to the wind outstripping the top speed, and it survived a reasonable drop when I had to cut the engines vs a controlled landing. Quite like the having GPS coords on the app, good for a full flyaway rescue if you use a screen recorder, and the other data for postmortems. I use the Android inbuilt 'magnifier'. 3 taps in and 3 taps out, 2 finger drag & pinch zoom, remembers zoom. Easier than Apple 'zoom', always needs 3 finger touch. Don't know if you can set the speed to high before launch? The 'springy' arms can cause a backflip if it's not landing flat. It does cut the grass a bit if I can't get it back to the pad, so need to check the prop spindles for grass twists before a relaunch. Quite like the integral prop guards but you can still get a sting from them if the landing buttons don't respond. Had a couple of times the autolaunch failed but manual worked, then autoland and stop didn't respond, so best to reset until autolaunch works correctly. Need something with more speed next for my locale.
Flew again today. Much better even though wind seemed the same. Did the gyro calibration this time, although it doesn't respond as the manual. Found the max speed is 20kph although not currently showing on Le Idea website. Managed 8.3 m/s which equates (10kph = 2.77mps = 6.21mph,
20kph = 5.55mps = 12.42mph, 30kph = 8.33mps = 18.64mph). Still problems with autolaunch and autoland/stop. Sometimes works, sometimes not. I won't continue unless autolaunch works because autoland/stop usually absent. Today got an autolaunch ok but no autoland/stop. Not good. Not sure how to fully reset. I think it's probably remove drone battery and wait, but for how long?

It functions quite well and the camera is good enough. Two things make it less attractive to me. One is as you said, the rotor position. You can fly from a good level base but you can't always land there. At most of my flying sites the props would probably get damaged. The 2nd is the 5ghz wifi. Like many of your international viewers, not all the frequencies used by 5G wifi quads are available in my country even if you have the right band on your phone. _I've been caught out twice now and that's enough_
It's pity as this is otherwise something I'd seriously consider. Good and detailed review as always

Wow, strange beast. Video is not bad. There is some jello, maybe too much of sharpen, and the propellers in view. Not good for wedding videos and such, but just for seeing stuff from above it seems to be great.
That will only solve propellers in view, and well, sometimes you want to look forward, right ? Most of the time actually ..

Hi. I need a new motor for one of these. any idea what kind / size it is? i've taken the broken one out but can't see a model number etc. Cheers
They're generic motors that can be purchased off eBay or many other sites. You will need to first measure the case diameter (recommend calipers). It's likely one of three common sizes, 7mm, 8mm, or 8.5mm. If 7mm, Google search 0720 motor. If 8mm, Google search 0820 motor. If 8.5mm, Google search 8520 motor. Make sure to also match the wire color of your old motor before purchasing (The color indicates polarity and the turning direction of the motors either clockwise or counter clockwise).
