    I'd prefer my body be left out in the woods for the animals to enjoy. Get my matter circulating back through nature. But I really don't care about being memorialized with a fancy stone or crypt. I'd rather my family and friends do something productive or fun with whatever money that would cost.

    Nice tour, JP! The one I found the most moving was the Grogan grave, (at about 17:36). The wedding picture on it really helps convey that these were real people, with lives and dreams. Their choice of photo deepens the impression, with the two people looking at each other rather than the camera person. You can sense how happy they were as they started their lives together. I feel like most gravestones don't really do that.

    The three chain links stand for the independent order of odd fellows. It’s a group kinda like the masons. Also In cemetery symbolism this is thought to represent suffering (the cross) followed by eternal reward (the crown). Oh and the metal is almost always bronze not copper, also you can almost make a entire language out of headstone symbols. great video I’ll definitely subscribe and look forward to new content ✌️

  • @Chasepalmer1885
    @Chasepalmer1885 Год назад +2

    Also one of you other videos you had asked about money left of graves it kinda has a few meanings. Leaving a penny at the grave means simply that you visited.
    Leaving a nickel indicates that you and the deceased trained at boot camp together.
    Leaving a dime means you served together in some capacity.
    Leaving a quarter at the grave, you are telling the family that you were with the soldier when they were killed. In addition to these families would also leave it as a “tip” to a grounds keeper for the upkeep of a plot. Hope this helps. Oh and it’s a Jewish tradition to leave rocks at a burial site. In case you come across that in your travels. ✌️

    Very beautiful cemetery, I enjoyed the stroll and I agree, it was peaceful and relaxing. I think it would be neat to be memorialized in a mausoleum too and all of the structures have such intricate construction. They are all so beautiful, and I thought all of them had their own uniqueness, but some of my favorites are the Dickson Mausoleum, the Grogan gravestone/bench with the beautiful angel, the Banno gravestone with the gorgeous mural, and I still really like the Scranton Mausoleum doors. Beautiful video...grounds are very well-kept. My favorite Angel, at 3:16, is so graceful looking, as she points up to the sky, you can see she has a star on her head. I've never seen a star on an angel statue. Most touching headstone, at 17:38, is the Grogan Angel/bench with the wedding photo of the couple. There is also a cute Cherub at the base. The most unique monument has to be the Zimmer Pyramid, at 18:44. This was also the most heart-wrenching, due to the simultaneous passing of the family. Honorable mention is the very unique Miller Mausoleum, at 19:54, of the 1903 funeral director. Incredibly unique interior with the chandelier, photo, and items from his former business. This one would have been easily overlooked had you not pointed this out as your personal favorite. Cemeteries definitely have fascinating history. Very well done, Jay! Thanks for bringing us along!

    Hi Jay, I didn't read many of the comments below so I don't know if anyone else mentioned about the Zimmers (pyramid stone). The husband and wife were both killed in a train accident while on a business/pleasure trip I believe in upstate New York. The Zimmers owned a furniture store on Main Ave. in Scranton. There is also a young girl whose name escapes me who is buried in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Her tombstone has a statue of her sitting on a bench. She was also killed in the same train accident. The Zimmer tombstone is one of the most interesting in the Dunmore Cemetery.

    Another great one from the video king himself. Thank you, JP. It's hard to pick a favorite because they're so unique. If I had to pick one it would be the huge Mausoleum or any of them for that matter. The designs inside and out almost tell you what the person or family was like when they were living. I can't get enough of the cemetery videos. Along with enjoying the videos, I find them very relaxing and calming to watch. Do you still have the same P.O. Box in Taylor for monetary donations and card?
