Just wish it had some Buick variety hopefully we get sekiro 2 journey to the west since the immortal severance ending really sets it up

Sekiro is definitely the most straightforward of Fromsoftware stories. I don't mean the story is simple or uninteresting, as it is complex and engaging, but at least watching the cutscenes and playing through the actual game will get you 80% of the story, unlike their other titles. In a lot of ways, it's the most depressing story personally speaking (haven't played Elden Ring yet). Dark Souls is all about accepting your fate in an endless cycle, so you spend every game (30-40 hours in a regular playthrough) coming to terms with that fact, and Bloodborne has a debatingly happy ending out of the 3 choices. The one happy ending in Sekiro involves jumping through a lot of hoops, so most players see the other three heartbreaking endings.
It's also a big horror game. The advertising doesn't play into that aspect but after your second (third if you take an alternate route) boss battle, the game's tone changes from a story of revenge, war, and protecting one's family into straight-up horror. The same way the Exorcist and Rosemary's Baby play with the idea of turning Christianity into a horror fest, Sekiro does this with Buddhism and it works so well as both a twist and when replaying the game and spotting all the clues. The gameplay is the most polished and tight of the Soulsborne games and it relies on skill alone - you can't build your character in a specific way to overcome most obstacles. Factor in that the only other two difficulty options make the game HARDER rather than easier, and you realize you need to practice a lot to get good at the game. It's one of the most rewarding gaming experiences.

Agreed I really think future Fromsoft games especially the souls like ones can benefit hugely from adding story related cutscenes not just as boss intros, that way opening up the world and lore to virgin players and those of us who dislike having to read every items description. Sekiro is the only soulslike where you don't feel it necessary to watch lore videos after you beat it to get a grasp of the story and themes.

Sekiro is great, kind of like Bloodborne has a third act pivot to cosmic horror, Sekiro has a lot of classic Japanese horror hiding just under the surface. The way it reframes Buddhism and connects it to elements of body horror and spiritual impurity are really interesting.
Once again, VaatiVidya has the goods if y’all are interested, his videos on Sekiro are amazingly well produced.

It's my turn to stand up for Sekiro being the best/my favorite FromSoft game. Aside from my bias of it being the first one I was able to 100%, I genuinely think that Sekiro is the best FromSoft game for newcomers to the series.
This game is simultaneously the easiest and hardest game in my opinion. At an early level it's very easy to get into and understand versus all other Souls games. Tutorials are plentiful without being overbearing and the game makes sure you have all of the information you need before advancing further. There's an NPC to train in combat with, and there's no branching classes or complex leveling system like the other games. You have your sword and the extra tools/skills you choose to take, but combat primarily comes down to how well you can manage offensive/defensive play and react to split second decisions. There is one fluid and fun form of combat in the game, and it's up to you to learn and master it versus the typical FromSoft approach which gives you to many options at times that it can be overwhelming.
That being said the combat system is incredibly hard to master, and if you don't have what it takes the game will gatekeep you until you do. The 2 or 3 (depending on how you play) boss you fight is an absolutely brutal wall that exists solely to make sure you grasp everything that combat has to offer and if not, you aren't getting past him because you aren't capable of dealing with the late game bosses otherwise. It can be so frustrating banging your head against a wall trying to beat him, I myself having spent about 3 hours on him my first playthrough, but once you do succeed it's an amazing feeling. Which is why I think it's the hardest and easiest game, because once you have it locked down and figured out, nothing can stand in your way. On subsequent playthroughs of the game (of which I believe I've done 10-11) that same boss that took me hours before I can dispatch in less then 2-3 minutes because of how incredibly the game handles difficulty and combat.
I also think it's the best game in the series for someone looking just for a story or something that isn't going to run them 80+ hours for one playthrough. Sekiro easily has the most understandable story of any Souls game while also maintaining the incredible level of world building through secondary information that the other games has, it just makes the primary focus of the game much more comprehensible so you at least have a clear cut goal in your mind. Despite the difficulty of the game, I would also say that a single playthrough will take less time then any other Souls game, but that's mostly because the game is designed for you and really wants you to get all four endings.
The biggest plus of all I have to give this game though is it's boss design. Sekiro has the least amount of "main bosses" of any FromSoft game which is completely acceptable when realizing how amazing the quality of each one is. With the exception of one of the two bosses that is "reused" being pretty meh, the rest of the bosses in the game offer something incredible that most other Soulsborne bosses just can't do because of the sheer amount of them that get stuffed into each game. The fact that they took the time to really polish the bosses in this game goes the extra mile for me. Stuff like True Corrupted Monk and Guardian Ape are among my absolute favorite bosses in the series, while The Sword Saint still sits at the top of the hardest but most satisfying boss list even after Elden Ring's Goddess of Rot has been dominating people's mind as of late.
I love this game. Absolutely one of my favorites of all time, and the single reason that I care about FromSoft games today after being dissuaded by Dark Souls back when it first came out. I literally can't sing enough praise for this game.

Sekiro is the most active and dynamic From game, a very focused emphasis on fighting and action, and most the exploration is to avoid traps or get a secret goodie. The story is also straightforward for the most part, while the trademark LARGE HORROR BIGGER THAN YOU CAN IMAGINE is still there, it just complements the story instead of driving it. It's also the most demanding From game in terms of mechanics, and has by far the lowest completion rate.

@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames i remember when I got it and was managing somehow through the game until i reached the wall.
A boss where you need to master the parry otherwise you basically can’t win. Everything is designed with you having certain tools at hand by that point of the story hence extremely hard if you haven’t mastered them. After learning to parry correctly, the game becomes much more reliant on it and then throws other challenges at you such as dodging and counter mechanics of different weapons types. It was also the first soulsborne to have jumping so jumping was also used to dodge certain mechanics too

Sekiro exchanges build diversity for perfectly crafted encounters. I found other from soft games combat to be boring in comparison as I was always either underpowered due to not knowing how to properly build my character or completely overpowered as soon as I looked up a good build. It's combat is extremely polished and the closest thing to perfect that I have seen. After playing it for the first time I had a hard time enjoying any other game as they simply could not compare. That together with a story that you can understand without 10 hours of watching lore videos makes it easily the best from soft has produced.

The neat thing about Sekiro is how they diversify the combat despite only using a single weapon type. Unlike games like Elden Ring, Dark Souls, Demon Souls or even Bloodborne, you get the variety from choosing, upgrading and picking certain tools or skills.

Sekiro people might argue is one of the more difficult of the games and associate it as being parrying to win, but in truth there's additional elements to take into consideration if you're willing to try it. One of the more surprising aspects of the game is that you're given two ways to make it even more challenging to play, one of which directly rewards you more for each encounter, the other being like "this was a thing of protection, do you need this" at the start of your next playthrough after completing the first, plus the next playthrough's natural added difficult following the first, and this would make a player have to play more careful and precise than ever before as a requirement in a Fromsoft game unless you're trying to S-rank performance on missions in Hard mode of Armored Core 4 (an old mecha series Fromsoft did that gets less attraction than it's really worth.)
I'm always torn about which Fromsoft games are actually the best. It's actually quite difficult to say because they'll often offer great replayability experience on top of the first time experience. I myself kinda grew up as a fanboy of them, unknowingly, and this was before I even realized the Souls series as a thing. Some Fromsoft throwbacks go back further than 20 years like the Moonlight swords. I want to say the one with the least replay to explore options is actually Sekiro, but it was still a pretty good game. I guess my top list is something like Elden Ring, Bloodborne, Dark Souls 3 then Dark Souls 2, but I'd put the Armored Core games as being able to fit into these areas of the list if they were made more available to be played modern day to better adapt my opinion. I can attest I spent hundreds to thousands of hours in gen 4 alone out of 5 generations of the games, and I never had a chance to try into the PvP because they took those servers down.

Oh man, Sekiro is such an interesting game. While I absolutely loved playing it, it is also my least recommended FromSoft game to the general gaming community. It is a game that demands you learn each of its combat systems, yet rewards you handsomely for doing so. It takes the Dark Souls boss factor of "How do they expect me to kill this?" on your first attempt, to "Ah what a piece of cake" after you understand the boss and cranks each of those to 11. As others have said in the comments it has a significantly more straight forward story than other Souls games as well, though still quite cryptic at times. Overall an amazing game in my opinion, and highly recommended, but only to anyone that enjoys essentially fast paced puzzles!

The weird thing about Sekiro is there’s no builds, unlike dark souls or Elden ring you’ll have your sword and clothes the whole game and won’t really switch them out (you’ll gain a second sword later which can be used for a specific move but other than that it’s just on your back) so your prosthetic arm is your only real customization besides skills which you gain as you kill things. I remember when the game first came out, I literally tried playing it like Dark Souls 3 and got my teeth kicked in over and over and over again. So much so, I got frustrated and had to set the game down for about a year before I went back and forced myself to adapt and learn how the game actually wanted me to play. And when I did...oh...did this game turn out great. What turned out to be one of the hardest games I had ever played turned into one I ended up beating multiple times for the sake of getting all the endings and all the achievements.

Still my favourite pre-Elden Ring FromSoftware game. But not the most newbie friendly game. Sekiro is a hard game. But since you've been playing Jedi Fallen Order you might just like it, since they pretty much copy-pasted the fundamentals of Sekiro's combat mechanics 😆 - so if you're enjoying that then you'll definitely enjoy it in Sekiro which is much more polished.
But unlike Fallen Order, there's no difficulty setting and even on it's hardest difficulty the challenge pales in comparison to Sekiro. Sekiro is HARD 😆.
That being said, it has the best combat I've experienced in any game to date. Like the combat itself is even better than Elden Ring IMO.
Once you figure out the nuances of the combat system - to sum it up it's a brutal & deadly, yet sublime & beautiful dance of swords. It gets SO intense. There were moments in certain fights my heart was pounding so hard I thought it was gonna burst out of my chest 😂
And as usual with FromSoftware, the story, setting, themes, art direction, environment design, music etc are masterful and industry defining.
As others in the comments have stated, if you're interested in knowing more about the world and lore of Sekiro, then Vaati's your guy 😄
I was incredibly happy when Sekiro won Game of the Year 2019. Till then FromSoftware, while definitely being a popular studio, was still considered 'niche'. But that award gave them mainstream recognition and validation that they rightly deserved. Not like they really needed it anyways. They've never made games to please others. But they've always respected their players. None of their games have microtransactions or greedy monetary practices. They arent driven by corporate greed. They only do it out of an unflinching and unyielding artistic hunger to create games to the best of their ability and vision.

Sekiro is by far the hardest from software game as there is no level or gear progression. Only shinobi tools and different techniques. So you can can never outgear/outlevel anything. You just gain more tools. So it’s difficult as it’s entirely up to your own skill.

@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames don’t let the difficulty dissuade you from playing though. It is very doable. It’s the hardest soulsborne game but it’s still a soulsborne game. They are all doable. They are all learning experiences. After you have learned, you can do. It might take you 10 times it might take you 10,000 times but you will eventually overcome the challenge and move onto the next.

FSW games have the same gamplay mechanics (literaly) and they play slow and boring, except for Sekiro. It's the only game with different gameplay which is much more dynamic and spectacular

Sekiro plays completely different from the rest of From's Games. If you try and play like darksouls, you'll suffer. You're a dirty rotten ninja, use every nasty, evil trick you have or you're going to hate the game.
The same people saying you have to use Strength weapons, no magic, no summons in Elden Ring tried to play Sekiro as a Samurai instead of a ninja and had a bad time.
Don't be afraid to throw pebbles in people's face mid fight, or sneak kill people, honor's for people who are twice your size.
