Parallel Worlds is pretty old now but as a hack it's a great new challenge for fans of the original.
That and goddess of wisdom I played years ago, just one difficult part since it was made to run on emulator to take a layer off in one of the dungeons
The uncle in Link to the Past has a bowl cut that's parted down the middle, which was the style of the time. He is not wearing a turban.

Being an old sod, I’d never heard of this until I got a hacked SNES mini. It’s my favourite mini console, and not only because the SNES was and is my favourite console of all time. But because the hacker did such an awesome job. Things like parallel worlds with its custom box art and home page sprite are the icing on the cake. It’s a surreal experience firing up the SNES mini and having a game of parallel worlds on a pretty authentic controller (with a wire). It’s almost like your in a parallel world.. keep it retro 👊
I hope you have save states. This game is BRUTAL. I think I'm going to play it again.
I would LOVE IT if you covered the CDI Zelda games. I really know little about them and I think the touch of Lady Decade would be perfect in filling us all in on these notorious titles.

SNES had an absolute treasure trove of out of this world games! So many of them had not only nice graphics but brilliant musical scores and story lines.
My favorite of all time. OOT is a strong contender, but alttp wins.

Zelda 2 is still my favorite. Tears of the Kingdom could knock it down to the second favorite. It looks amazing, and I feel like it's the Adventure of Link equivalent, while Breath of the Wild is a Zelda 1 equivalent. It's darker and has a more mature look to it. Ifeel the same about the originals. OG Zelda 1 was bright and extremely fun like BoTW, Tears looks darker and more mature of a story than the latter and has me absolutely dying to play it. It also feels much more different than the original like Adventure of Link was on NES. It looks like stats play a bigger role as it shows fusion damage stats when infusing two objects.
Zelda 2 is brilliant! Always happy to hear those that keeps it close to heart. It's such a different kind of challenge. The world is beautiful and mysterious. Difficult as hell! Music is splendid. 10/10

@@zachtwilightwindwaker596 then try the parallel worlds Remodel version. The original parallel worlds is pretty damn brutal I will say. Not Ninja Gaiden brutal, but it's right up that alley.
Glad to see it got so much recognition. I remember when I first stumbled on to it, it was not a fan favorite other less polished but flashier ROM hacks tended to get the spotlight. Also there were no guides, and thankfully all of this has changed.
A nightmarishly difficult but equally rewarding game. It's really meant to be played by those who completed Zelda 3 and the original NES Zelda on its second adventure. The difficulty starts at the end of Zelda 3 and just ramps up from there.
You should cover ALL the CDi games!! Marble Madness II while your at it!

This is by no means new unless they updated the game recently. I remember downloading this way back in 2010 and playing it on my cfw PSP. Diffucult romhack, some tedious backtracking, and very fun. It's probably one of the best link to the past romhacks I've ever played. Glad to see some new coverage on it though, hope more people will try it out.
Man I'll never forget coming across Parallel Worlds and OoT 2D back in the day. It was exciting to know a whole subworld of devs existed.

Wait a minute. Link's uncle. That's a turban? I always thought that was like his hair. I'm not kidding I thought it was his hair. I mean there's other guys that have that exact same face of his and on top of his head is clearly black hair on the other ones that you see like the strange guy standing next to his sign.
That's because it is his hair. All official art shows him without a turban, and both the side sprite and the "downed" sprite don't look anything like a turban.

The original website from Seth and Euclid is still there, where Seth saying in the Q/A: the first dungeon "Guard House" might be the hardest in the game.

The thing which let me quit playing this was the requirement of bomb-jumps which are - in my opition - rather a bug and not a legit mechanic. And I don't like abusing bugs for completing my games :D
There's a room in Gannon's Tower in the original that you have to do a bomb jump to get to. That's the only time and it's completely optional. But it's not a glitch.
I'd watch anything with the CDI like Mad Dog McCree or whatever that game was called I forgot

This hack seemed pretty cool back when I tired it. But then I got to the Armos Knights boss fight in I think the second dungeon? Each one would take 20-40(Been years so I don't recall the exact amount)hits to take down. It was so damned tedious I just stopped playing after a few tries. There's a challenge and then there's literally needing to hit a boss hundreds of times. It wasn't fun, it was tedious. Even after beating them you'd then have to fight another boss right after, and if that boss killed you, guess what? Have to fight the Armos Knights again.
I know about the hack of this hack that fixes the difficulty, but I never went back and tried that.
I think Bombs do a lot more to Armors Knights than the sword do. I think I used a lot of bombs at that point if I remember correctly.

I remember playing this at the time and those who made it just covering up poor game design/play as difficulty. Can't say I remember it fondly more like meh.
At the time of its creation they were pretty limited in what they could do and the fact that they accomplished this at all with what little they had is a miracle.

My eyes have been playing tricks on me for 30 years if link's uncle is wearing a turban. It looks like purple hair to me.
In fact I just looked up images of his uncle and they all depict him as an older man with black hair and no headgear.

Check out Zeldix. They have a ton of A Link to the Past ROM Hacks. You can even play them on a real SNES with an FXPAK Pro.

the 3 Zelda CD-i titles deserve proper none meme study and review, it's trendy to hate on them, if Nintendo where to some how see fit to have them remade in a Pixel remake like or 2D+ and release them on switch that fixed the issues of a disjointed CD-i hardware schemes, but kept the story and gave the animations a little polish, I wouldn't hate it. I wouldn't mind the BS-Zelda titles either being released in a way we can play them and support the big N at the same time.

I finished this game about 5 years ago, did enjoyed it alot. It's hard, very hard, but still a very fun game to play. But you need to be an experienced player, otherwise you don't have a change.

The Philips CD-I games are ripe for remakes into something actually good.
Not a romhack but a fan game, can you do the Metroid 2 remake called AM2R please, and some of the other popular Metroid illegal game remakes like Metroid impossible and Metroid Rouge Dawn
Link to the Past is one of my favorite games of all time. I bought this hack on a reproduction cart and it just didn’t hook me.
It’s hard in the way that I can tell the developer was also the game tester. I still haven’t felt the desire to play it again.
I definitely don't think A Link to the Past straight to this is a "recommended" route, it's just too hard. Maybe try Goddess of Wisdom & beat that game a few times before giving this a go. I think Parallel Worlds is super hard, but not unfair, if you have the skills you can definitely get through it. In saying that I only made it to the Dark World, didn't beat it. I also have Goddess of Wisdom, but haven't played through it, I should probably do that & then I plan to revisit PW.

The Parallel Worlds rom hack is over ten years old. It's not new.
Well it is a lot newer than A Link To The Past. The ''New'' Super Mario Bros series isn't brand new out, nor was New York built yesterday. Something is only new relative to what came before it.
