It's just fun! Never occurred to me that it shouldn't be or wouldn't be. Never thought of it as a thing or hesitated. Made a fun family video and people went bonkers so we just started putting our videos on RUclips. Thank you and you're welcome!
Many folks say how terrifying all this looks... But I would like to point out how cool is that we got to see an underground water erosion in process. Such a unique footage .Also reminds me about those underground rivers that we have beneath our feet.
This is the second longest erosional cave in the world. The first longest is just a few miles down the hill. These water piping caves are usually subject to collapse pretty quickly. But not when they're ceiling is lava!
Those squeezes freak me out the most, and also the hidden drops. I can’t imagine what it would be like to get lost and end up in a spot where you can’t turn around or inch your way back out. If you keep going, the odds are not in your favor that you will not eventually encounter something like that...
I've _once_ gone in a cave that involved squeezing through a narrow, partially submerged passage on my belly... glad I had the experience, but also completely satisfied never to do it again. Even without claustrophobia (and knowing this cave system was thoroughly mapped) it's hard not to be aware the margin of survivability is just a couple inches - that much more water or less headroom up ahead would mean you're scooting into your tomb. No thanks.
So my first and really only caving experience was Cumberland caverns going through a beginners passage called Fat Man's Squeeze. They called it that because even a bigger person could fit through it with some effort and without the claustrophobia. I couldn't imagine having to basically flop like a fish to make a millimeter of movement to get through some of these squeezes. I'll happily watch from behind my screen. Thanks guys!
I can already imagine how scary this would be, also maybe you could explore more of hell hole. I really like the little cool figures like in Bhuda room. It would be cool if you explored a mine.
Althought sometimes I feel anxious watching your videos I still can't stop because it really amazes me! I wonder if you guys work out and stay fit for caving, I imagine you would need some strenght in your arms and legs to push through those caves! I love your work, keep it up! Much love and support from Italy!
Yes general health is usually fine. I know that the guys I cave with including myself all are actively exercising. Most of the exercise simply allows me to cave more often as it is exhausting. So I can cave several times a week all day without getting too tired.
This is one of those extreme things I can’t even slightly understand. Sky diving, base jumping, bunjee jumping - all of which I totally get (but wouldn’t do). This I just.. my brain doesn’t comprehend where the desire to do this lies.
I must say this is N enjoyable Chanel to watch albeit caving and cave diving are also my “scary movies” too. Your informative, calm and entertaining. I’d also like to add I really love seeing you guys get out and walk around a little bit too. That’s pretty satisfying.

Think I'll take a shot at cave exploring sometime in the near future, thanks for being you and stay safe
Thanks! It's not even about exploring caves it's about getting outside yourself and possibly outside your house. It's funny the diversity of opinions. Many people see our videos and think we are absolutely suicidal. While they sit at home motionless and watch videos of other people's lives. And they ask what's the point in what we are doing.
I'm lucky enough to not be scared of anything really, or have any legitimate phobias - that is apart from this! Caving and tight spaces are absolutely terrifying to me, so I think you're all incredibly brave to explore these things! You pretty much contradicted yourself. You said you were lucky enough not to be scared of anything, yet you say that caving and tight spaces are terrifying, meaning you are indeed afraid of something.

Even if I would some how get pass the tight spot situation.. just knowing I can’t turn back and I’m going further and further without any instant departure would put me in a full anxiety attack.

Do you ever go caving in seismic areas like the west coast of the United States? If so that as hardcore as it gets not matter the cave bc all it take is a tremor and the ground can collapse move shift ect.
We primarily cave on the West coast of the US, and the Pacific Northwest takes up most of our time. The risk/reward factor makes the adventure all the more exciting. Thanks for your comment. Caveman’s dad
I have caved for many years and been through some tight squeeze but never through a tree cast and I never will. You boys are hard core lava cavers. Y'all wouldn't catch me in that kind of cave, I'll stick to limestone.
The advantage of limestone is that it's pretty easy to slip through well crawling. But it's also easier to slip downward into a dangerous crack. We mostly have lava tubes here and while they are super rugged it also allows plenty of grip against some dangers. So we take the good with the bad.
The problem isn't that we don't want to show the planning phase the problem is that no one will watch it. We have some videos to that effect and they just don't get any views. We have some stuff that's more detailed is more detailed on the 2nd page. This main page is just for the rage.

It's amazing how you guys always seem to find the exit. It's like you have "escape rope" from pokemon or something
Once we are in a cave basically all we are doing is looking for a way out.
Every time I see one of your videos and hear you say "why aren't you panicking" I know the answer is supposed to be "because if you get stuck you just get unstuck the same way" but this video title is one of the first things I think about.
So cool to see the tree casts (and everywhere else y'all go), but my breathing gets labored just watching.
We deal with similar heart and breath rebellion, but the mind is key to success. We mitigate danger. Just enjoy.
As a firefighter I need to get used to crawling through narrow spaces and your videos really help me building the right mindset for the Job 🙏
You are welcome to watch them all. Thanks for what you do. Let us know if you ever need a cave rescue team.

I couldn’t be more captivated. Thank you, for sharing your journey with us. The videos are amazing, your ability to control your emotions is next level mental toughness! Thank you for what you do.
Those are very kind words!
I'm claustrophobic but love watching your videos. I do get a little anxious just watching you guys..LOL..watching you, I get anxious. I grew up in the Pittsburgh Pennsylvania area and as kids, we used to go down to old coal mines. These were made by families during the depression for coal so they were not professionally dugout. It was scary but fun! As I got older I noticed my claustrophobia. I would love to cave dive with professionals like you guys.
Relax and enjoy the show. These caves were made by the Pro of all pros.
I am obsessed with your guys’ channel lol. When I first started watching I would squeam the whole time, now I actually kind of want to try myself
wonderful. It's super fun!
Calvin I´ve Said this before and i will say it again, Your channel deserves millions of views and subscribers. Truly Scary video but still very interesting! Keep it up!
Thank you.
I don't really know what deserve means. We feel fortunate that anybody is interested. We like sharing but our lives are not different for the amount of people that watch. We are just out here havin a good time.
I get the feeling this channel will blow up in no time at all, which I agree they absolutely deserves, this is high quality and extremely unique content!
Glad to see a new post during winter, stay safe and keep exploring!!!
We've been doing some lowland caving lately and really having fun.
You guys are nothing short of ABSOLUTELY NUTS!!!! GREAT VIDEOS THOUGH!! IT'S A RUSH JUST WATCHING!!!
Thanks. It’s our way of chilling body, mind, and nerves. We’ve been hypothermic at times.
This just shows that people are built different.
I have no idea what drives you to do this but you seem to really enjoy doing it and I am not going to lie the video footage you get is pretty amazing and shows a world I will never see otherwise.
So ... Thank you :)
We really prepare better than most understand. Caving is a bit crazy, but we mitigate the big risks. Thanks for watching
"Let's talk about forgiving yourself" ROFL... well played sir... well played.
I'm absolutely loving your videos! I love that you take us through the caves and explain what is going on. Very well done!
As much explaining as we know. This is wild country. Thanks for watching
I can already imagine how scary this would be, also maybe you could explore more of hell hole. I really like the little cool figures like in Bhuda room. It would be cool if you explored a mine.
Heres the budda room! And a 3D map
ruclips.net/video/TLU-QEv-Mkk/видео.html
Great comment. We’re not all wired the same. Hope you enjoy our flavor of crazy. Caveman’s dad
I certainly get the desire to explore, but I would never do anything in a place as tight as this.
I must say this is N enjoyable Chanel to watch albeit caving and cave diving are also my “scary movies” too. Your informative, calm and entertaining. I’d also like to add I really love seeing you guys get out and walk around a little bit too. That’s pretty satisfying.
Thank you!
I met your dad today on a bike ride! Rode by the church and needed water and he helped me out! He told me about your channel and now I can’t wait to binge watch!
Sean, thanks for the comment. Enjoy the videos, and let me know when you’re ready for an adventure for which you will not need a bike. Caveman’s dad.
"It is our way of living, not our way of dying"-Caveman That is probably one of the most meaningful lines I have heard in my life, idk how to describe it, but whenever watching your videos all I sense from you is feelings of joy and peace as you explore these caves. Not sure if you will see this comment, but I just wanted to say thanks, your videos give me courage in a sense to continue to do even the most difficult things.
You guys are amazing 💪🏽 so calm and collective 👀 love it man!! Always stay safe and keep bringing these amazing videos 💜🙌🏽
We are like ducks. Calm on the surface, but paddling like crazy underneath.
I'm lucky enough to not be scared of anything really, or have any legitimate phobias - that is apart from this! Caving and tight spaces are absolutely terrifying to me, so I think you're all incredibly brave to explore these things!
I find all of this stuff fascinating, seeing the hidden world beneath us and learning about the amazing natural processes creating these infinitely unique and beautiful cave systems. You present it all so well and capture the true beauty of caves in these videos, so thank you!
I enjoy watching these videos from the safety of my home😂 in Leicestershire, England.
Well hello all the way to England and welcome to the dark frontier.
You pretty much contradicted yourself. You said you were lucky enough not to be scared of anything, yet you say that caving and tight spaces are terrifying, meaning you are indeed afraid of something.
@@crystalwater505 "apart from this" being the key phrase lol
This channel just absolutely terrifies me. You both have balls of steel
Using Weightless by Marconi Union as your background music for caving is the best possible choice I could've imagined, LOL.
Great comment. You know your music.
This is so cool! Thank you filming this and posting it!
Thanks for watching
I love your videos Caveman Hikes! I'm extremely claustrophobic so its a very nice sense of relief watching you, your friends, and your son all bravely go through these impossibly closed corridors of these caves. What a beautiful craft you have perfected. Have fun spelunking! Keep up the great content guys, liked & subbed. 😁

This Vid definitely got the heart rate up 😂 Awesome Vid, keep the content coming! 👌
TY. Caving gets our heart rate up.
Normally its hard for me to watch these videos, but with your commentary it makes it easy for me to watch! thank you!!
You are most welcome. Cave chatter helps with the nerves.
The footage and narration is fantastic. Really nice to share the rewards of unique talent and opportunity with everyone.
Thank you so much for the kind words
Amazing, fascinating and terrifying in equal measure! I was scared just watching it on a screen and you really brought it to life. You show the rest of us places we'd never normally get to see, so thank you and stay safe!
Great comment. The Great Creator does some amazing work. We are just enjoying being first ones to visit these museums.
whoa, I almost started crying like a little b****, and I'm not even inside the cave. Getting stuck in some tight cave with water flooding must be the absolute scariest experience ever, I mean why do it... wow.
No one understands our answer to “Why?”
Excellent adventure as usual. I always enjoy the talks you give while in the worst possible position.
It keeps my mind off being in the worst possible position. Thanks for watching
You seem like awesome people. I admire your passion for pushing yourselves through these caves
Thanks for showing to the end when they get out. Its so consoling
People beg for that. So we show it. But it's the worst part for us. The best part is going IN the cave!
“This is a very unforgiving situation but I forgive me” has to be best quote ever!
Thank you.
Love this videos! I would love to see more mapping of new caves! Extraordinary, educational, and jaw dropping content.
We map all the new caves, but it takes a great deal of time. Remember, it is very cold underground. 🤪
Absolute mad lads. Being inside a flooded cave is nightmare fuel. Here you have these guys out searching for water in these tight passages. I'm going to have nightmares of this after just watching safely from my home.
First, thanks for watching. Secondly, our world chaos gives us nightmares. Caving is the calming we need. God bless.

Hi from the UK! So I stumbled across your channel and decided to give a video a watch. Absolutely INSANE! I absolutely love nature and exploration but no way I would do this or what you have done in your other videos! Mad respect guys! Keep the amazing footage coming but keep safe!
Appreciate you watching and your comments. We are just having fun in our weird underground way. Sorry about out terrible attempt at UK accents in the outtake.
I’m glad you do these videos for ppl that’s weird, talking about portals all day. All I see is rock & water
We don’t show all the amazing formations. It’s just caving protocol.
He is going through a birth canal and says "having a good time here" wtf!!!
Second time through is always more fun.
This seems like insanity. I appreciate your bravery and the great content. Glad you are okay 👍
Couple days without a cave and we get weird. 🤪.
it is borderline insane lol
Calvin: "Water is one of the real, actual dangers of caving"
Also Calvin:
Yes! I was wondering about the hypothermia he mentioned in the video you’re referring too
Very much enjoying your videos. What I like to do is wait 'til you're in a particularly tight passage, and then leisurely stretch my arms and legs out and thank god I am not there with you :) I'm never going to be the sort of person that does this, but I am very grateful that you do so we can see all the interesting things. Keep up the great work !
Sorry about being so slow to comment. Our legs and arms took a while to get operational again.
I can't stop watching you guys go through the caves it's very educational you're very good at narrating your progress Jacob is awesome sometimes I feel bad for him going in first and to the small areas but after seeing him do it through a few caves I could tell he just loves doing what he's doing and Calvin I could tell you do too so keep up the good work be sure to give all the warnings about caving with a guide you guys are great
Thanks, Mike. Caveman’s dad here...usually wearing “find my body” orange underground. The family loves the adventures most never find. We appreciate you watching.

I just found out what a tree cast and I'm already relieved I'm not inside one! :)
Respect to you guys for making this safer for others.
We missed seeing them created, but the discovery is still amazing. This was once a forest of giant trees. The local volcano did a number on them.
@@billsanders9387 True, they must have been some huge trees, and still those spaces look so tight. I like how the tree bark gets imprinted on the walls.
When you said "let's talk about forgiving yourself", I was like oh gosh here we go and was about to stop watching, but then you quickly said "I'm just kidding" I was excited to stay and it made me laugh a bit
Well I do like to poke at philosophy now and then, but not too much on these videos. We may be silly but we take our caving pretty serious.
Well I was expecting the opposite, if someone is at peace enough to philosophyze in a place like this I'm willing to listen carefully.
This makes me miss caving so much! Although I'd never go as far as you did here. If I see too much moving water I'm gone haha. Balls of steel on you mate!
Get back underground bro! There are many dry caves and much larger ones out there.
I have so many thoughts and emotions watching all these caving videos. It's freaky and terrifying to see these underground spaces you seem to enjoy squeezing through 🥴 i have no desire whatsoever to descend into the earth, haha. It's very cool to watch others do this even when i am having small panic attacks for you in my living room. Thank you for the information and the great videos!
It's very fun and very relaxing. That's why we do it. No other reason.

Unique skill set for bat chasers.
Even if I would some how get pass the tight spot situation.. just knowing I can’t turn back and I’m going further and further without any instant departure would put me in a full anxiety attack.
That’s what gets me. It’s not the tightness really it’s that compounded with knowing I’d have to go through x tight spaces to get back and I’m x layers from the surface. That makes my throat close 😂
@@eyetvideos467 yup just the point of no return is what do it for me lol
All those feelings have to be dealt with underground. Cave chatter helps, but experience is the best teacher. Great comments.
I haven't been caving since 1990, I do miss it sometimes and appreciate your vids
The caves haven’t changed. They miss you.
What is absolutely under-appreciated is your humor.

It's super fun!
Amazing! How scary it is to see it, I can't even imagine being there. Thanks for the video, you are the bravest
We appreciate you watching. Caving is our joy.
must be terrifying to do that. damn i wish i was that brave. that takes a lot of guts to stay calm like that. great video.
A learned experience. Start with comfy caves (reasonably) and grow the skills.
I’ve just found your channel. I am amazed at what you guys do.
Thanks. Welcome to the dark frontier
10:05 you are one brave man!
Fortunately, the water wasn't terribly cold. I mean it was cold rainwater but a lot of the cave water is much colder.
@@CalvinHikes yeah, I'm surprised due to the time of year.
Hey I would love to know the planning and studing of cave before entering . I always wonder how you guys know it is possible to go through it?
The problem isn't that we don't want to show the planning phase the problem is that no one will watch it. We have some videos to that effect and they just don't get any views.
We have some stuff that's more detailed is more detailed on the 2nd page. This main page is just for the rage.
Oh boy! I'm only just into the intro and already feel like I'll have some fear induced palpitations coming....
I really feel like we could have done a better job here but in the end it was a bit too dangerous to horse around taking good video in the water.

Thank you so much for all the time you put into your videos! I love watching them.
Thanks for understanding the challenge. The time factor Calvin puts into making the video is at least 10 times caving hours.

The amount of anxiety I get watching these and I’m at home in bed 😂 I almost lose my shit in a mri machine.
Thanks for watching.
Glad you're alright
Thank you. I'm always the correct amount of alright. Which is never 100%.
Since I’ve never been caving I would really like to know specifically how taxing it is on you, and has there ever been a caving situation where you didn’t think you had the strength to continue? Btw keep up the great work and of course stay safe👍
I think it's important to maintain pretty top notch health. But like any activity you have to know your own limitations. Caving is not hard if you just take a small chunk. I can do pretty hard core caving for days on end without much recourse.
I watch your videos during my anxiety attacks and they help a lot but the weird thing is I’m claustrophobic but don’t feel it watching y’all lol
They make it seem fun and not so dangerous
Your comment is really cool. Caving demands strong mind control, and we have overcome much in the process too. Good on you!
I rarely subscribe to a channel but I appreciate how you guys seem to not care about that stuff. But wow great videos.
