My dad had an 8-track tape of Tony Mottola's "Romantic Guitar" in his 1966 Lincoln Continental and we'd listen to it driving from Chicago to Grand Rapids, MI. Just as classy and beautiful today as it was 58 years ago.
An all too often overlooked guitar virtuoso. My Mom's favorite guitarist and was often heard in our home when I was a young boy. Just as smooth today as ever. Yes all the LP's are still there at Mom's house.
found this vinyl in my grandfather old AV room when he passed, I installed the recordplayer, the AV system for the player, and the speakers in my room. This was the first record I ever heard on vinyl. And I'll never forget it... thank you grandad. I wish we got to listen together
As a full-time working guitarist for 50 years, I first heard Tony Mottola back in the late 60's on an album my sister gave me. I couldn't believe how clean his sound was! I immediately learned and recorded 'Arrivederci Roma' using a Fender Jazz Master and a Hammond L100 organ (for the harmonica - haha) and chords. The 'recording studio' was a Roberts (Akai) 1/4" stereo tape recorder with sound-on-sound function. I tuned my guitar down a few octaves to simulate a bass guitar, and I had a whole studio! Ha! Well, it was fun, and I was a teenager, and my dad was proud of me... I eventually got better equipment, and more albums by Tony Mottola, and even now, still listen to a lot of him. My latest favorite is his rendition of "What Are You Doing The Rest Of Your Life" combined with 'Moon River'. Ohh!! The most beautiful, CLEAN guitar playing I've ever heard. Thank you, Mr. Mottola, for a lifetime of beautiful guitar!
I’m looking for the Spanish romance anonymous... lol... I guess I’ll try and sit through this... see if it’s here... always so busy... even at part time work.... smh no time for anything!
I first heard Mottola as a kid hearing "beautiful music" FM radio stations on my dad's hi-fi ('60s, '70s).. I was always impressed by the beautiful chords and the sound he had.. Since then I've become a jazz musician, 35 yrs on sax and the last 10 yrs on guitar. It's now, after exposure to guys like Johnny Smith, Barney Kessel, Joe Pass, etc., that I can go back and fully appreciate what Mottola played.. Jazz purists may dismiss this stuff as "corny" or "fluff", but I can tell you that's BS.. It's virtuosic conception, feel and harmonic sense.. Most casual listeners can better appreciate a beautiful melody, well played, then playing encumbered by millions of notes, dissonant chords and a lot of cerebral advanced theory that's over most non-musicians' heads. And since it's mainly the casual listeners (or not even!) who hire you to play, as well as who put the money in your tip jar, then why not?
My dad bought this album when I was a kid and it quickly became one of my all time favorites. I still have it but haven’t seen played it in years for fear of wearing it out even more. Beautiful arrangements back masterful guitar by Tony Mottola with gorgeous organ by Dick Hyman to make this a timeless classic. Thank you so much for sharing!

"Masterful execution" ... so right !! I play these type of songs on my guitar and one of the pieces i enjoy mostely because of the demanding execution is Tony's version of Stardust. Find it so good i decided to dig a little deeper into his work. So beautiful !!
Me gusta cómo suena la guitarra de T. Mottola; es una caricia para el alma. Quisiera saber si Tony interpreta "this guy´s in love with you". Gracias por compartinos esta música que ya no se oye en estos tiempos.

Well cool. Maybe, could you set the time tags then for all the pieces, I don’t think most of these uploaders for Tony even know how to do it.

Spent many nights listening to these smooth romantic sounds in 1970 while my new wife and I were in Okinawa. Nice memories, thanks.
Thanks for sharing your sweet memories.

Tony Mottola had such impeccable phrasing and finesse.
As a kid in the 1960's I used to fall asleep listening to these easy listening tunes by Tony Mottola on my transistor radio. Great stuff.
