I am one of the biggest Hank Williams Sr fans out there. Half the time i was watching this movie i thought Tom was actually Hank. God bless you Tom for doing this role
Amen. I cried to this version after losing my dad. Old Cowboy. Tom's version is the saddest and most provoking for me. This version basically wrapped up my experiences with my dad and his cowboys me being one of them.
This version just takes me back to losing my pa. Tom just nails it for me. I know every great like Johnny Cash did it. But there some final about it. It just embodies my experiences with my dad as he raised a young horseman in that marshland swampy trails we rode in.
I've heard the lack of success for this movie had nothing to do with the acting n singing but was cause ppl didn't like how the director cut it n also something having to do with the timing of it cancelled it out for some of the awards cause he should have one some awards for this role. that's at least what I read as to why it wasn't more of a success .
I truly believe that Tom did an incredible job on his potrayal of Hank Williams. When I watched him sing this song in the movie, I actually realized what an remarkable man he must have been. He was a poet and a tortured soul. This song and Cold Cold Heart and Your Cheatin Heart, proved that. Loved the song and how Tom brought Hank back for one brief moment. Well Done. Tom.
Love this song. It is a Hank Williams Song. I believe no one will ever know just how LONESOME he was, Hank, even with all the success in his career. My Grand Mother, who was Blind at 49, loved his music. She played piano, and would play these songs, and ask me to play for her too on my little Hammond Organ I had, this was in the late 60's, and early 70's. She would get my brother to play this one, and "I saw the Light" on his Harmonica. But I too know what Loneliness is, as I lost my husband when he was only 33, My Daddy passed a year later. I had Breast Cancer 3 yrs later. Lost several of my dogs, mostly labs, a German Shepard , . Just recently my Mother a year ago, Day after Christmas, 2 of my treasured labs the same year. My oldest chocolate on July 4th as well. My brother of 66 yrs, almost 67 on the 12th DEc, 2016, . and 2 weeks ago 2017, one of my miniature horses had to be euthanized. But even with all the pain, heart ache, and loneliness, there is one who we all can go too. And that is our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. But getting back to Hank, I am sure He loved the Lord, but he did have pain in his life, and success , just to fast and too much thrown at him. And like so many Entertainers before and after him. They pushed him, gave him drugs just to keep him going. All these songs, he wrote, and sang were and are amazing, and have touched the lives of so many. God Bless him, and God Bless Tom. He has done the most amazing job as an actor of recreating Hank. A lot was brought out in this film, that so many of us never knew about Hank. It is a crying shame, his life ended so abruptly, and at just the beginning of his career. God Bless You Tom, and do keep up the amazing work you are doing as an aspiring young Actor. Sorry, I am one who loves to talk and ramble. Just wanted to get out there, what Hank and Tom, both have done and touched my life, and the lives of so many others, young and old. God Bless Us All, and Peace and Happiness, and thanks for posting Gaby of this on You tube...
I was introduced to Hank Williams' canon in the early 1970s movie, "The Last Picture Show" which played several of his great songs. I had by 12 yr old kid watch the movie, and there was crying for quite a while afterwards, it's so very affecting! About the same time in 1971, Jack Nicholson's "Five Easy Pieces" played Tammy Wynette songs intermixed with classical music to show the clash in the characters' existence between elite and country living.
The man physically looks like Hank Sr, between the costume, camera angles, the talent of a gifted actor, and the general body type and facial structure. And while he may sing the old standards in a different key, and every so often a syllable sneaks in that sounds more like Westminster than west Alabama, still the overall effect is... stunning. I feel as if I've seen Hank Sr actually perform, watching this movie. An incredible story about a phenomenal man, taken from us too early.
I dont know about Loki, but Tom Hiddleston's version will now be the voice of my memories of the Cowboy that taught me to ride. My dad. And I grew up on Hank William's. But Tom's version puts dad to rest.
Hear that lonesome whippoorwill, He sounds too blue to fly. The midnight train is whining low, I'm so lonesome I could cry. I've never seen a night so long When time goes crawling by. The moon just went behind the clouds To hide its face and cry. Did you ever see a robin weep, When leaves begin to die That means he's lost the will to live, I'm so lonesome I could cry. The silence of a falling star Lights up a purple sky. And as I wonder where you are I'm so lonesome I could cry.
This music makes me want to cry, it gives me chills. It brings back good memories, as well as bad ones. And Tom's voice reminds me of everything he brings to the world every day.
Glad the had him sing this. I wanted to see it in the movie and was sad it didn't make the film but they did put it to the credits so that's something. Tom did wonderful in this film, the editing was off, but it didn't take away from Tom's performance. I applaud Tom for doing ISTL.
I figured that it would show up whenever Hank and Audrey split, but I liked how it got placed in the end credits right after his death. Makes the ending hit home much harder
Daddy (82) and I were listening to some of his music today, making memories while I still have him with me. He was ten when I Saw the Light came out. This song has me crying while daddy takes a nap and I feel so lonesome....
If ever there was a role , a purpose, an absolute perfect fit . That would be Tom and his most incredible portrayal of Hank Williams ! I was and still am quite taken back by the spot on singing ,Hank is pleased with the production. I'm kind of embarrassed to say until ,I Saw The Light DVD ,Mr. Heddleston was unfamiliar to me. I haven't seen any of his previous films, meant to get ,Warhorse as the trailer got me. The likeness is uncanny, Tom's voice ( singing) is hauntingly so much like Hank's! I've been a fan of both Williams', Sr. ever since I was a small boy ,as my dear mother had a few of his LPs, as well as something from every genre of music and I'm grateful and thankful for the exposure which led to a profound appreciation of music, finally; after playing the connection to Hank & Tom; (" The guy has to be a relative to the late ,great Hank Williams", there couldn't be any other logical reason .") The fact of Tom being British just rocked every sense I have , truly fitting, done with the utmost class and respect, this song holds a special place in my heart ever since losing my youngest brother in Autumn of 1993. Tom's cover only put it closer to my ♥️, I shed many tears upon hearing it the first time, dually emotional as there are many facets of Hank's life I was unknowing of, the love he showed in life for his son was carried through by Tom's role. That too had me welled up , but in pure joy at that love only a father can have for his little boy.! I've watched it more than a few times and I reckon I will again, many thanks to all involved with that production and especially to you Tom Heddelston; you nailed it all my good man , besides , if the acting becomes anything less than you find, you assuredly have a career as a musician and you posses a magnificent voice. ✝️☯️♾️🧡☮️
This version of the song gives me chills and made me cry the first time I heard I. Of course you consider the context. The ending of the movie, how the song follows it, and the arrangement, it’s bound to make a grown man cry. I truly believe Tom went into Hank’s soul and into the heart of the song when singing this, all while not doing a cheesy imitation. It is amazing.
I listened to ALL of the covers for this song on RUclips, including the original. This one is my favorite. Hands down. Imagine Tom H. beating out Elvis? Whoda thunk? This guy is good!

Beautiful yet heartbreakingly sad song while at the same time the lyrics are amazingly poignant. #RIP Hank Williams, SR. Good job, Tom for your cover of this legendary song and his role in "I Saw The Light"
Idk why this movie gets so much hate it's so sad and that's how it's supposed to be because Hank Williams had a sad short life. Tom really made me feel so sad for Hank Williams
The actors performances are good. It's the story and editing that's wasn't really good. This is one of my favorite songs from the movie. Tom did a good job.
James Butler he's a marvel comics villain. One of the roles this actor is known for. He was the bad guy in the avengers. And a great role by a great actor.

Tom Hiddleston gave this role his tender heart and made Hank a living soul.
My grandfather was a big fan of Hank Sr
This was one of the last films we watched together
He passed in 2018
It makes me emotional
Miss you, pop
RIP Hank Williams (September 17, 1923 - January 1, 1953), aged 29
You will be remembered as a legend.
I love how he LIVES every character he plays instead of just acting.
He onse said he's never been able to lie. So Tom just lives through each character's emotions and experience❤️
tom did a great job, he is English and can talk like a southerner is great acting .
I am one of the biggest Hank Williams Sr fans out there. Half the time i was watching this movie i thought Tom was actually Hank. God bless you Tom for doing this role
This is just about the saddest version of this song I ever heard, but it's beautiful.
Have ya heard the Johnny Cash version?
@@ethanlin9925 I have heard Johnny Cash's version of this song and I thought he played it just as good as Hank Williams did.

He is the only man on Earth who could make me like country music.
I dont know why this movie didn't like to the people , he´s just like Hank Williams haha and he sings like an angel
I had the chance to meet him in june. he was very appreciative when I told him I enjoyed his portrayal if hank, and that he did him justice
Thanks for saying that to him because I wanted to say the same thing .
He sounds like a good guy.

@@titisarah09 Yes, I saw the film recently and couldn’t understand why it is rated 5.8 on IMDb. It was raw, authentic and I loved it!
So happy for you and kind of envious... ;) He totally should know how amazing he was in that film. 🤗❤
I wish my long gone friend Bucky could have heard this . Still miss you Buck!

Hiddleston's performance as Hank was absolutely perfect in I Saw The Light. Sadly, it was buried in a ramshackle movie.
Tom Hiddleston's voice is like a symphony ♡♡♡
Nice arrangement of a classic song. I like the two minor walkup and walk down that was added.
