  • There's nothing better on a dark icky day than some color! Hang out with me while I use my Ashford blending board to make four different rolag sets. I'll also spin and swatch, so it gives you the opportunity to see each yarn finished, and knit into a swatch.
    I hope it inspires someone!

    I didn’t want it to end, that was amazing Trish. Now I want a blending board, dang! I loved them all, you really have an eye for colour. I showed my hubbie your little buddy and told him you love those old horrors, we love horror movies too. Hubbie mentioned a favourite of mine...Creature from the black Lagoon...I need to check if it’s available on Prime. What was the first little floater in the pool? Squirrel? 😁 I am going to go watch your new plying vid now. I just realized that heaven today for me would be spinning huge yarns on my e-spinner and weaving with them all while watching a marathon of Fibre Love Diaries, heaven! Love the ending showing the roads, the 2-ply yarn and then the knitted swatches! Great job. My biggest stumbling block to the whole yarn creation process is visualizing what it will be (approximately) when I have yarn, or how it will knit up. Now thinking how it will weave, too! I have had a couple of flubs where the colors became so muddied either in spinning or plying, and I didn't love the yarn.

    The blending board looks so easy and fun! How many oz approx are you getting from each blend? Looks like you pull off 3 rolags from each, but not enough to fill a bobbin, right?

    • @FiberLoveDiary
      @FiberLoveDiary  4 года назад +1

      I know it's crazy, but I have never weighed a set of rolags from my board, but if I wanted to make sure I had enough for a specific project, I would weigh out what I need at the beginning and then split that and make as many "boards full" as I need. Then I would grab them at random so the yarn would be random too. Hopefully that makes sense! I have made multiple sets with the same fibers, but when I'm spinning them I make sure they are mixed randomly.

    I have been wondering what you do when you get a small amount of yarn. Three rolag doesnt give me enough to make anything on it's own. My bobbins for my spinning wheel are small and the wheel is old, so replacing the flyer with a current day jumbo flyer is not an option. I am putting away $25 a week to save up for a new wheel, but that means January or February is when I can get a new wheel. 😢 (whine whine whine😅)

    • @FiberLoveDiary
      @FiberLoveDiary  3 года назад

      If I want enough for a project, I just do several boards full of the same fibers. If I want the yarn to be more homogeneous, I then alternate one rolag from each board as I spin. It's also a good way to do gradients and stuff like that. You just slightly vary how much of a certain color is on each board, then you can go from dark to light, or whatever.

      Oh my gosh. I went to summer camp at Albion summer adventure for years. It was the best. My mom and my sister both went to college there.
