I am a new drop spinner. Wanted to try a batt...didn't know what it was. I unwrapped the box this morning and exclaimed, "Whoa! What the heck do I do with this? So, I divided this "thing" in half, tore off a strip and began drop spindling. Then I thought, "What am I doing?" so I found your podcast. Whew! I now feel soooo much better. Thanks. Very clear!
I'm so glad the video helped! I have a new way to spin one coming out in a few weeks. I saw someone that is pretty inexperienced wrestling around with a whole huge batt once, and it came to me that probably happens a lot with first time batt spinning. Thank you!
I’ve been watching your videos for 3 days. I’m learning tons! I don’t even spin - I just use finished yarn, but now I had to order a drop spindle to see if I’d love spinning too. Love, LOVE your channel!
Thank you so much and welcome! I think a drop spindle is a great way to start, but even if you don't like it, you could still like a wheel. They can both be a little frustrating at first, but don't give up until you feel like you are sort of proficient. You can't tell if you like it until the learning frustration goes away 💚
Thanks for the awesome information and the Courage to start Spinning Batts!! Woo-hoo another Technique added to my Spinning Tool Box!! I sure do appreciate You and the time you put into your Videos!! You are such a Blessing to me!💗🐑💗
Again…. Either “someone” is reading my email or the world is in perfect sync with my head. I just asked this of you 6 hours ago! And this ops up on my suggestion feed…except…. The batt I asked about is not combed in one direction like this….. it’s all over the place, Oh GREAT!!,the warping bar is PERFECT!!!! THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!
Thank you for showing different ways to spin fibre 😃 When you opened the box I was kind of on the fence about the colour but once spun it turned out beautiful. 😍
Fiber Love Diary that is why I need a carder. Just haven’t made up my mind on which one. I was hoping to attend Oregon Fleece and Fiber Festival this year and ask the venders some questions. Who knows if that is going to happen.
@@eroff4721 i know. I was thinking is spend the whole give days at Michigan Fiber Festival this year and who knows if that will happen either. Picking a carder is really tough. I've had four different ones now and i still find it hard to make those choices.
I love watching your pup, I’d be the same sticking my nose into your batt hehe. I have never spun anything but I’ve learnt a lot from your videos and I’m hooked!
This is so cool! I had no idea there were so many ways to spin from a batt! It is wonderful to see the subtle variations in the look of the finished yarns. Thank you! I will be able to be more informed on the best way to spin a batt for its own particular characteristics! Now...hmmm...how to choose which style to prep for a batt that I have been saving?! Too many choices! 😂🙃😊🍄❤
I have spun dog hair before as keepsakes for people that lost their pooches. I'm kind of known for it locally, so yes, I have thought about it. He actually has very fine hair. Sometimes poodles have a more guard hair texture, but he doesn't at all. Maybe someday! I guess I should start saving it just in case!
@@FiberLoveDiary oh my gosh, that is incredible! Thank you for doing that for people mourning their pupdog. My pup Gus is old but has short hair, I may try to mix some of his hairs into my spinning. Thank you for the reply! Stay safe!
Yes I've tried it. I'm not really a fan. I think i just like having it in my hand so i have more control and i can feel the fibers on both sides. I didn't see an advantage to using the diz.
People ask a lot, but looking at a giant sheet of fiber, that makes sense. Plus, I've seen people wrestling around with giant batts trying to just spin it straight off of a corner or something. It's a lot to handle, especially in summer.
Hi Trish. I’m new to spinning and have only spun from roving so far. I’m interested in spinning from batts and rolags so this video was very helpful. Hope you will consider doing more videos where you spin. Enjoy your podcast!
I definitely will consider it! Thank you. I do hope it helps you out. There are plenty of other ways though, so don't just litsten to me. So many awesome spinners out there!
For the first two smaller hanks, i actually made plying bracelets. For thesecond two bigger hanks, i plied from a center pull ball. I don't do it very often. I will make a better video on the technique sometime!
I'm in Michigan also, what area are you by I NEED classes and would love to pay for them LOL just got my loom last week and am so waiting to make dishcloths and washcloths :)
I know exactly what you mean. Sometimes I see things, even from Canada that I can't order because the shipping from Canada is crazy now. I'm sorry to tempt you with one that's hard to get!
Hi Lorie! There is a link in the description box to their website, but I'll grab one directly to the surprise box! The box I used was the Surprise Box - Batt Edition. Have fun with it!! wildwoolfarm.com/product-category/spinning-kit/

"Let the yarn be what it wants to be" 💜 I love that!
I swear, I'm too old to fight! It never really works for me anyway. If I try to fight the fiber, I really don't seem to get the results I wanted.
Trish, you are so talented. ❤
I just love watching your videos. They are so interesting and great explaining. I could watch you spin all day lol
Thank you so much! Glad you're here!
I learn so much from you. I love how you explain everything. I am so grateful I found you on RUclips
Luther is totally ruling the video. Lol. He's adorable!!
ALWAYS. I know the truth is that I"m actually his sidekick, not vice versa 😂😂
@@FiberLoveDiary truth!!
I love how interested your pup is in the wool! So cute! I haven't spun a batt yet but now I really want to.
He's so rude, but I can't get mad at him 😂. I hope you do try sometime. There is something magical about all those colors blending into a yarn!
Thanks for the awesome information and the Courage to start Spinning Batts!!
Woo-hoo another Technique added to my Spinning Tool Box!!
I sure do appreciate You and the time you put into your Videos!! You are such a Blessing to me!💗🐑💗
Aw, that's so kind, Karla. Thank you!
Wonderful job showing different ways on how to spin a batt. I love how the colors pops on the tan base color. 🐑
Thank you! I think all this yarn will go into a blanket I'm knitting in squares.
Fiber Love Diary Wonderful idea!

Thank you so much for sharing! That was a huge batt and I love how the yarn looks similar, but different in each of the preps.
Glad it was helpful!
This was very informative. Thanks for showing us these ways of working with a bat.
Oh, good! I hope it helps!

I love spinning batts. I’ve only spun 2 but can’t wait to spin more.
Neither can i! I have stacks sitting around waiting!

Thank you for this!!! I haven't done very many batts and they were all the same color. It wasn't blended like this beautiful batt!
I hope it helps! Especially the big ones can seem overwhelming.

Thank you! Have drum carder been spinning from batt, but not happy with my method. Will try these listed.
Come back and let me know if any of this makes it better for you!

Have you ever thought about spinning some of your dogs hair into yarn? Lol I think it'd work and be soft. :D btw those batts are awesome!!

Love the yarn, looks like something I would knit with.
It did turn out really cool. I never get tired of the way certain colors blend and change as you spin them together 💚
Those are some gorgeous batts! Do you ever tear off strips and run them through a diz to help attenuate and predraft them? If not, give it a try!

Thanks for another great video!
💚
Fantastic....that would’ve been fun to core spin also.....and I wanted ta see what was in the other box!…✂️🧶
Hahaha. I am always curious like that too. I have been lockdown shopping like a boss around here!
I really enjoyed this vlog. I was wondering what you did with a batt, lol. As always very informative. 😊
There are even more ways to do it! I may do a follow up with three or four more. Thank you!
Love this video.
Thank you!
Nice ! Great tips 🧶

Thanks very informative.
Hi there I’m from NZ and been watching you and loving it.
Can you please explain a sport weight is that equal to like a double knit ?
Thank you 😊
Sport weight falls between fingering weight and dk in diameter.
Such great fiber
It is awesome! This is the third batch of batts from her I have spun, and they have all been completely different and really fun to spin
I have a question for you- how did you ply that? It looked like a really interesting technique I’ve never seen before! The yarn turned out beautiful!
For the first two smaller hanks, i actually made plying bracelets. For thesecond two bigger hanks, i plied from a center pull ball. I don't do it very often. I will make a better video on the technique sometime!
Fiber Love Diary I would love to see that, it looked so much easier than using a lazy kate, thank you!
Very inspiring 😊
I hope it helps!

I don't teach any classes, but there are lots of great teachers in Michigan!
Hi,
It would be great to see how different or not they are when you knit them up. Thx.
I will do my best to show them when i do. The plan is for them to go into a Vivid (blanket) eventually with a whole bunch of other handspun yarns
That batt is huge even though there’s two! Wish they were in the 🇬🇧 uk
I know exactly what you mean. Sometimes I see things, even from Canada that I can't order because the shipping from Canada is crazy now. I'm sorry to tempt you with one that's hard to get!
I've attempted batts a few times. I find it challenging to spin a regular single. Any tips?
I'm not sure what you mean by regular single. I don't think there is anything that's really regular, could you explain?
I've been struggling on and off for most of my batt. I never thought to pre-draft it! -_-
what are three of your favorite fibers??
Only three? Can I just pick wool? Or do I have to pick a specific breed?
@@FiberLoveDiary specific breed if you want. :) but wool is fine.
Beautiful work, lovely results. How long did it take you to spin that whole lot?
I believe it was a week start to finish, but I spent a LOT of time on it.
❤❤❤
