The live version from Madison Square Garden in ‘73 is the greatest piece of rock guitar playing ever. Fight me.
😂😂😂😂 I agree
Couldn’t agree more ❤
it's true
"Since I've Been Lovin You " is one of my favorite Led Zeppelin songs exactly because it adds those cool chords to a Blues. How creative and soulful!
I’ve long thought (and professed to anyone who would listen) that “since I’ve been loving you” is The greatest blues song ever recorded. Some of my friends would say I’m crazy but then I would just break it down for them and show em why.
Great stuff here. You’re a fantastic player and teacher.
Check out" since i,ve been loving you" by Ayla amazing playing .
It’s one of the best! My pick is Red House.
@@user-et2fj8xm5l the intro to red house is my favorite 20 seconds in music. Incredibly heavy by Jimi
Man I freakin love this channel! Thank you, Jeff! The work you put into the vids is so, so, appreciated, sir. 🙏👍
Thank you and you are very welcome!
Such a great lesson on this epic track. Jeff M = super talented + very generous to have shared this 'knowledge'. The chord substitutions are sensational and show why Jimmy Page is such a legend.
Love this lesson, I've been learning this song for 20 years and there's always more ... 😁👍
Thanks and I know what you mean!
So true. I’ve been learning this song for 4 years, so there’s lots more for me. I also must add that I’ve broken more strings playing the leads in this song than any other song I play.
Been learning it for a year and can tell already this song is gonna be a journey
Have never seen this taught this way. You really captured the feel, tone, brilliance of Page on this one. Nicely done!!
Thank you so much for this Jeff. What a great breakdown of a masterpiece!! BRAVO!!!
You are quite welcome! And thank you!
oh man!! this is great! I've always wanted to learn this song and you break it down real well where I can understand what is going on. Thanks for a great instructional breakdown
🙌🙌
What a great teacher, these lessons help so much!
Thank you!!!
thank you for laying down this back track that I soloed over the whole time!!
Excellent job! Thank you for sharing this with us!
Since I’ve Been Loving You has always been my favorite Zeppelin tune just because of how cool the zeppelin take on blues sounds
Jeff, like you this is one of my most favourite Led Zep songs. Thanks so much for doing this. This video explained the structure of the song really clearly. I love it.

Thank you! I’m glad you enjoyed it!!
Thanks for this. Always been one of my favorite Zep tunes. IMHO as much a masterpiece as the Allman Bros' Stormy Monday.
Awesome! Thank you very much for explaining these changes in your own way. You are a good communicator.
Thank you! And thank you for being here!
Thank you for your post! This is a great breakdown of the 12/8 feel on slow blues (context), chord substitution (texture) and Jimmy’s great arrangement (choices) of this KILLER tune.
Just getting acquainted with a touch of music theory and trying to integrate 35 years of noodling, faking it, and dumb luck locating on the fret board! Can’t wait to jam this one!
Liked and Subscribed...keep’m coming!
Thank you and thank you for subscribing!!!
The way you teach this and that fact that I found this makes my day. And he's not always sloppy. He's not sloppy in dazed and confused in 1973. To be honest I've done a lot of research and of course listening. But I think JP is in his prime in 73
I've been waiting for this - My absolute fave Jimmy/LZ track of all time. You're the best teach - thanks so much Jeff!
Excellent!
Jeff McErlain I’m surfing your TF courses- which one has Loving You?
Essentials Blues Rock Grooves Vol 1!
Jeff McErlain thank you sir!!
this is great. loved revisiting this tune. thanks for sharing, jeff!
Great lesson Jeff! Thanks so much!
Thanks for posting this, can’t wait to dive into it!.. I had the honor of meeting Page once and I didn’t sleep for a week after that lol
A lot of players say he’s sloppy..no one was saying that back in the day when he ruled the world!!. . That started when all these technical players started coming out..
Such a great lesson Jeff, learned a ton, thanks for sharing!
Thank you for watching!
Thank you for doing this.
I really appreciate it.
Love your work on
5 watt word ...
your playing/tone and Les Paul are all beautiful.
Great lesson especially teaching us the timing and counting in time! You sound Great Jeff!
Thank you!
Very very thanks, i know you since RObben Ford ( i discover RF in 2017, and i m a big fan now) talk about you, and i love you re feeling, and your vidéo. COngratz and thanks for your generosity.
Thank you!
Great playing! Lovin what you do on here
Thank you!
Cheers for this Jeff - one of my fave Zep tunes too ❤️
Awesome!!
Those initial chords--with the flanger guitar effect, immediately turned my Mind to Robin Trower, and made me want to hear some Robin Trower-style Blues soloing!... :)
Your naturel distortion is awesome, can't get anything as sweet as yours.
So inspiring man. Thanks so much. I just had the best time soloing over that intro :)
Fantastic! So happy to hear that!
@@JeffMcErlain I love your tone and feel, so glad to have you in my youtube feed. Thanks for your channel man :)
Simply Awesome Jeff, great playing.
Thank you.
Man Dude! I’m going to watch this over and over!!
Awesome!!
Great Job Jeff!!! Thanks for the lesson.
Thanks! You're welcome!
Jeff great since I've been loving you lesson you got it man you nailed it to me that's one of the best rock blues that and loan me a dime the two best blues ever have you ever seen the Led Zeppelin concerts that they put on RUclips the vintage cars some of them are not good quality but since I've been loving you is always in there in the first half hour even if the quality isn't that good screaming versions of page and he really changes it up each time it's amazing thanks
Awesome tones Jeff....real pleasure to watch in the UK....Regards Kev
Thank you!
Love it. Thanks, I enjoyed your teaching.
Thank you!
Great breakdown. Thanks for the analysis!
My pleasure!
Thanks Jeff! Great lesson! I’m a new subscriber- also saw the episode where Tim Pierce gave you a nice plug
Thank you and thanks for subscribing!
Jeff - l learnt so much from this - thank you. It was just right !
Fantastic!
Thanks for the video Jeff. I’m only just getting into Page and his amazing guitar work. This is what I love about playing the guitar. There is always something to discover and things to learn to widen your music perspective ❤😊
🤘🤘
I totally agree. I’ve started playing again after having had a break for many years and I’m learning so many new things. The journey only ends at the end.
@@simonwhalley1743it’s a fantastic journey to be on. This song alone has opened up so many possibilities! Keep strumming and enjoying the guitar my friend 😊
The most powerful blues song ever written, armour coating
Thanks Jeff
Very cool thanks for all you do for the guitar world
you are welcome and thank you!
Oh wow! So much to chew on here man. Thank you
You’re welcome!
Such great tone on that neck pickup!!
You're a masterpiece Jeff !
Thank you!!!
Phenomenal Lesson Sir!
You have a new Subscriber!
Thank you and thanks for being here!
Also interesting to note the two note chord inversions at 20:16 are
Cm - 3rd & root
G7 - 5th & 3rd
Ebmaj - 5th & 3rd
D7 - 5th & 3rd
Dbmaj7 - 5th & 3rd.
Love the tone Jeff starts with.
Thanks!
is that a tone bender with the neck pup?
Some great stuff, thanks for sharing
Thank you!!
Love zeppelin! Also trying to learn jazz substitutions. You talked about all the stuff I've been learning lol. Ty brudda
Awesome! I’ve learned so much from Page.
Terrific content Jeff very interesting 👍🎸🎶
Thank you.
Wow, what an awesome part, always loved that tune... Simple but at the same time... Not, at all simple lol, it has a beautiful feel to it.. Hard to emulate but you got it!
Thanks!!
Another masterclass from the awesome Mr McErlain
Thank you!!
Amazing lesson Jeff ! 😮 My ears and mind can keep up but my hands are not up to speed yet !
Ha! That’s the same for everyone!!
Thanks Jeff.!! You just lit the ahh-hah lightbulb for substitute chords..!❤️👍🏼
That Dbmaj chord can also be looked at as the 4th (Fm) with a b6 in the bass... creating the walk down for the line cliche. Great Videos!!
great....now I have a new jam track.....thanks
I saw them on their Led Zeppelin II tour at Denver Colosseum, long fabulous show!
You have some really awesome amps behind you but your going through your DAW and it sounds awesome. I have my amps as well and I use my daw and my line6 hx stomp and yeah man it is amazing, never thought I'd say that......
I love it, thank you!
Thanks!
Thanks for the backing track
Excellent Jeff!
Thanks man!! LOVE the Vibe!
Just watched Eric Clapton: Life in 12 Bars. What a great documentary. Learned a riff, too :)
Love that Billy Gibbons lick @52:30 ...it’s something gonna feel good and it’s gonna change my life 😉
I've known plenty of guitarists that don't really address the chord changes and stay with the pentatonic for the I chord. I wouldn't know the chord had changed except for the bass player. I always thought it was so cool sounding when Page played the changes, and 45 years later I can't help but pay attention to the chord changes.
was very fun jamming at the start of this vid
This is some of the best eye closed listening ever- since the original '73 soundtrack that is.
Wow, well thank you!
I've been working on that song the lead part and the Rhythm you could break it down for me I appreciate it thank you keep up the good work and Merry Christmas
That sound man, killer LP sound. I have an SG but seriously considering an LP for looks and of course that bluesy sound.
You definitely need both... ok now I need an SG...
@@JeffMcErlain LOL...you won't probably regret getting an SG. You'll notice how thin and lightweight it feels compared to a Les Paul.
Fantastic.
🙏
My favorite toy that I ever owned I got for Christmas when I was 5 years old in 1974, that was the Evil Knievel start toy that rode a motorcycle you winded up on the ramp.
Things kind of suck nowadays, just saying.
I hear you my friend.
Had 3 of those, thing was powerful, could cause injury if wound up enough. Awesome, also liked them pull string drag racer cars
This is a very important video.
Great job
Thank you !
some GOOD stuff here.....
Awesome! Thank you. 'Ten Years Gone', please.
Hi Jeff, Greetings from NZ. I really am enjoying the lesson but am struggling to follow some of the less basic chords. I wonder if in the future a chord sheet with the variations of E#7 etc. that you use was also included. Will be checking out your Truefire courses when I feel I can keep up :)
Thank You ! I am french...i do not understand all the words...but Music is Music. It was very funy.
Well done
Thank you!
well done!
Thank you!
I'm so glad I stumbled across this! I've enjoyed your TrueFire stuff. In the official Zeppelin songbook there were a lot of chords in this tune. But like Stairway they didn't represent the song well.People knock the third album but I actually prefer it to Houses Of The Holy, which I hated the SOUND of the record. Everything is so compressed and the drums do not have that Bonham low end and heavy handed snare.(however if you lower the album a semitone it sounds like a garage band LIVE Zep- better than bootleg). Thank You for confirming Pagey's genius and keep rock'n that Les Paul.
Thanks for checking out the video. Man, I had that Zep book as a kid too and was always frustrated by it. Kinda right but missing stuff. Funny, you, me, and everyone else who bought that book!
@@JeffMcErlain However ,if you want to practice unusual chord shapes, you can get a close sounding version of the Rain Song in standard tuning. But it's a lot of work considering how simple the song is in Page's tuning!
Hi Jeff thanks nice little jam, you have anew follower.Mw
Thanks and thanks for being here!
23:36 bassline is one fret sharp of the dazed and confused riff.
Great build up.
Hey Jeff. I just subscribed to your channel, awesome stuff. I saw you on one of Tim’s videos and thought I’d join. Love the finish on your Les Paul, can you share some details on it? Thanks!
Thanks for being here! Good eye on the Les paul. It’s a 2019 R9 that Historic Makeovers redid. Brazilian board, stripped and refin using era correct dyes and nitro, and more. It isn’t cheap but it is as close as one can get to the real deal. I have had the opportunity to play a good number of real 57/58/59 LP’s and this gets in that ball park.
@@JeffMcErlain Awesome, thanks for taking the time to reply. Great video on one of my all time favourite Zeppelin tunes!
"Working from 7 to 11 every night really makes life a drag. I don't think that's right! " My favorite Led Zeppelin song, and they sure have lots of great songs to pick from! 🎸 🇨🇦
I agree. Page is from another planet.
Appreciated too. What about Slow Blues in C by Ten Years After. 12 bar Blues in C major ( I think ).
great vid! Thanks for the chord breakdown. Page....... what can ya say?😎
Hey Jeff loved this video ✌🏻 I really like the page /zeppelin and zz/gibbons vids you have done . Awesome lessons and great content. Thanks and hello from Australia 👍🏻. More of the same plz 😊👍🏻
Thanks!!
Nice...
Hands down the best blues piece ever done by Jimmy with a y and the boys!. Complete with 2 step bends! Though, as an engineer, if I could go bk in time, I’d bring a can of WD40 to Bonzo on that day!
That squeaky bass drum pedal from bonzo is iconic. Zeppelin fans, listen closely and you’ll hear it every time!
cheers from Italy...up the Zeps!!!!
One minute seems like a lifetime, that could be for one. Oh since I’ve been loving you that killer
Oh yeah, baby!
🙌🤘
Since I've been loving you! 🤘
I had a weird dream last night. I was getting an autograph from him. Real rad
he's already got mine
nice one, ta fella
Thanks!
“Drop fifty bucks and I’ll play it”. Love it
