Introductions and Greetings in Memoni

- In this video we learn basic introductory phrases commonly used in Memoni. With the help of my friend Aly Haddad (@nobleblacksmith), I got through how to say them and common responses.

Sister I am a native Kachhi speaker from Gujarat (India). Actually memoni ,kachhi etc all are different dialects of Sindhi language itself.
Way before partition many memon families had travelled from Sindh to Gujarat because of trade and settled in kachh & kathiawar regions and became gujaratized. And during partition many of those returned back to karachi & Sindh. But truth remains that memoni, kachhi(kutchi), thari,jagdali etc all are various
dialects of SINDHI language only !
Just like Saraiki, majha ,potohari etc are dialects of PUNJABI language and Haryanvi,Bhojpuri,Bihari,Marwari etc are dialects of HINDI language !☺
True Kutchi and Memoni are same and we accept and recognize both as on language with two preferred names call in Memoni and or Kutchi, write it in Urdu, Gujarati and or English script, its fine provided its the language we love and pray to keep alive by the help of Allah.
Haryanvi, Bhojpuri, Bihari, Marwari are dialects only officially. In reality they are separate languages compared to Hindi. Saraiki is also considered separate.
I'm a Pashtun, I learned Sindh during my bachelors in IBA Sukkur, I learnt Sindhi there and I feel like memoni is very close to it as I can understand it mostly

Am not a nationalist. Nor I discriminate on the basis of cast, creed or color.
But I believe, we must remain attached to our roots. Yeah bit old school. But I've no shame or regret being so. Because thats how Allah SWT has made me :)
Being a Memon and not knowing Memoni is a great loss. My father was a only child in his family. Only our great grand mother (whom we never saw or met) knew the Memoni, but was unable to transfer to our grand-father, probably because they were living in Hyderabad Deccan, Sikandarabad.
My father tried his level best. Back in 80s during visit to India, he was able to get a basic book to learn Memoni from Bombay.
But who would teach us? the only old man in our distant family was aware. But our bad, we didnt take the advantage, now he is no more. Great loss, I would say.

I believe "memoni" as a language evolved sometime around 1750AD when "memons" from kutch settled in "Kathiawad" region. A language survives only when there are sufficient number of speakers concentrated in a geographical region. This number is in certain millions. The history shows that numerous native languages disappeared for ever in the new world (North & South America) after the arrival of Europeans. There have been attempts to restore some of these languages but not with much success. The same is the case with Halai Memons (Kathiawadi Memons) since they don't live in sufficiently large numbers in a concentrated geographical region. So eventually "Memoni" will disappear for ever in the next fifty years or by the turn of the next century. But the development of "Internet" technology and exciting developments ahead (like virtual reality) and initiative by your channel presents some hope that "memoni" may not become extinct so soon.

I speak Sindhi and I can understand most of what she's saying but with a twist of Punjabi and Rajhistani and maybe a bit of Gujarati.
Even though my mom's side is "Memon" we only speak Sindhi

This is because memoni is a mixture of Sindhi, Gujarati and Kutchi. Memoni is spoken mainly by memons whereas kutchi is spoken by a number of communities, they do have similarities and a number of common words.
Alhamdulillah im memon I can speak Sindhi and understand not completely but better
Memoni /Kachhī/ Kathiawari are dialects of Sindhi resemble much with Larī and Tharī Sindhi .
Memoni varies from where your from. I speak fluent memoni at home and based on where I’m from, this is how we speak.....
1. Aye kiy ayo, how are you?
2. Oun thakelo aya, I am tired
3. Kuro thio aye, what has happened/what’s up
4. Jijo thio aye, a lot has happened
5. Anjo deen kedo vineto, how is ur day going?
6. Jije waqt phutiya milunta, we are seeing each other after a long time

So Maryam what’s the difference between Sindhi and Memoni?
kamran janvri hi! Sindhi and Memoni are very similar. Some people who are Sindhi say they speak “Sindhi Memoni.” My mom says she is “Sindhi Memon,” as in someone who is from Sindh but speaks Memoni. But I believe the Sindhi language is different from Memoni because my mom speaks both and they are different.
@@LearnMemoniwithMaryam Sindhi and memoni are different. They seem similar at first but that's because Memoni is almost an amalgamation of Urdu, Sindhi and Gujrati! The grammar structure is the same and the vocabulary is quite similar but as you go further and learn more words the differences become more apparent.

Learn Memoni with Maryam , Maryam Memoni is a variant of Sindhi dialect, there are so many dialects of Sindhi language Memoni is one mostly spoken south eastern parts of Sindh

I was just about to say this, Kathiawari Memon is slightly different from Okhai Memon, in fact I would say Kathiawaris have kept Memoni closer to Sindhi, whereas Okhai have adulterated it with Gujarati.
