My gosh! Why don't they use a stair or manage other way to band them? I'm bothered by the terrible noise, can't imagine those chicks! Not to mention their parents. Please leave nature alone. Poor things!
Hideto Luna, why is banding necessary? it's so traumatizing and many nests don't do it. How old are these osplets? I haven't followed this nest. thanks!
I am going to give you a quote from the Eastern Bird Banding Association. I also know of many other nests that band or ring depending on the country the birds are from and some also place a satellite tracker on the birds which is extremely helpful because if a bird is lost, it's body can be retrieved and the scientists can find out why the bird died or if it's in rehab, they'll know where it is.
Data from bird banding are useful for many aspects of avian management and conservation. Here is a partial list of some of the information gathered by marking individual birds. Dispersal and Migration When banded birds are found away from where they were banded we can reconstruct the movements of individual birds and learn their migratory routes or nesting or breeding grounds. Behavior and Social Structure A color banded bird can be recognized without capturing the bird again. This can allow study of such things as mate fidelity, which bird in a pair builds a nest and feeds the young and other social behaviors. Determining Life Span Marking an individual bird allows researchers to know the length of time a bird can live. It turns out that many species of wild birds can live 10 to 20 years (through these are exceptional individuals, not the average). Populations, Survival and Productivity Mark-recapture techniques allow researchers to estimate the total number of birds in a population. Constant effort banding stations provide estimates of where the limiting factor is in a species life cycle. www.easternbirdbanding.org/why-band-birds/
Another nest with an unviable egg this year🧐 Dude lost the first band or something there, poor chick though had to be touched for too long☹️. FINALLY... bankers who left them a fresh fish 🐟 to help with the trauma so mum can stay in the nest after banding 👍🏻 That should be mandatory.
What is happen ing here? Why they are making mess around chicks. They should wait until chicks fly away . Mother so consern about tthe safty of the chicks.
They were not making a mess. Go read the link in the description, please. The chicks were being banded. Ringed, in your country, most likely. It's essential. And many places also put a satellite tracker on them as well.

@@Innuendoes Thank you for all information; appreciate your effort. Will definitely follow this nest. I happen to like ospreys.
