    Not sure if you knew but Moomin or "Muumit" as it's called here was originally created and illustrated (in her books) by a Finn called Tove Jansson and was originally released in a form of nine books and five picture books. The popular TV-series from the early 90's is actually a Dutch-Finnish-Japanese production. We even have a theme park here in Finland dedicated to the Moomin (Muumit)! Also your pronounciation of Finnish is really good, wow!

      You can actually visit the Fazer factory (although you have to be with a group). A few years ago you could go inside the actual factory and eat all the sweets fresh, but not anymore :/ (hygiene reasons i believe). But you get free sweets, xylitol gums (which are very popular in finland) and some other products from the Fazer bakery. Also a tour of the factory and you get to go to the factory shop where you can get everything cheaper and also some sweets you only get from the factory. I've been there two or three times, it's awesome :)!

    I got to correct you a little there. Finland is not actually a part of Scandinavia, but there's this term called Fennoscandia and Finland is a part of that thingy. Just so you know it correctly.

      TheErspa I'm going to need a little bit more info than just saying this. What is the difference between scandinavian country and being a part of scandinavia? There is a lot of discussion whether Finland actually is a scandinavian country or not but I don't really get the point in that. Doesn't a scandinavian country require being part of that mountain range?

    The way we pronounce Moomin (Muumit in finnish) is ムウミ in katagana.
    The beauty with finnish to japanese and vice versa is that they're both phonetic languanges, so pronouncing the others languange is super easy for us finns and japanese. :)

    Xylitol is a sugar alcohol. So it just doesn't prevent bacteria from sticking to your gums but it's actually anti-bacterial in nature. Very few chewing gums in finland are flavoured with cane sugar, Xylitol and Sorbitol is the norm. So chewing that stuff daily doesn't rot your teeth, it does the opposite.

      deggis4
      xylitol was discovered* and if we think that way, gum is thousands of years old product, so xylitol gum is more like developed gum, not gum which was invented or created.
      Why couldn't chemicals be invented? for example paint is a chemical and it was invented by someone. badumtss. in ur face. ;D

  • @DeltaSilver88
    @DeltaSilver88 9 лет назад +6

    ...Oh, salmiakki. I'm Finnish and even I hate it. XD Honestly, I have no idea how people can like candy that tastes like cough drops. Yes, people. It tastes like ammonium i.e. cough medicine. Or toothpaste. Take your pick.
    Tervaleijona are a special kind of candy that actually taste pretty good - these are candies with an artificial tar flavoring. ...As in wood tar, not the oil one. There's even a Finnish saying that goes "If tar, liquor and sauna don't help, the disease is fatal."
    Pihlaja candies (also called "kettukarkki" / "fox candy" due to the logo) are also really good - they're a very old brand from 1895 and still being made. They're a sort of marmalade / jelly thing with a sugar coating. I usually hate sweet food and candy, but the Pihlaja are just too good~

      same! I always thought the reason why I don't really like salty-licorice eli salmiakki koska mä oon puoleks suomalainen, i was born in Finland, mutta asun new yorkissa and ive practically grown up in the USA,
      but I'm very well cultured with finland, I always go back every summer, I'm obviously bilingual and all but one thing-well actually even 2 things- mistä suomalaiset yleensä tykkää on saunominen and salmiakki- at least now I know I'm not some half-cultured brat hating on salmiakki

It's like made of egg yolks, something put in it and then blended, so it's really creamy and you could use it as a spread, like the thing in stuffed eggs basically - anyway it's absolutely amazing with that!

    A Canadian living in Finland over here. Also the first videos of yours I've seen. You're such a sweetie pie. So great to see gentle good-vibe souls on RUclips for a change. Nice review of the Finnish candy and a tip about the Salmiakki - there are two kinds - one that is salty licorice + a menthol taste. That stuff is absolutely horrible. But then the good stuff is the pure salmiakki candy that is only sweet + salty + licorice. And NO minty flavor. That's the good stuff!
