Was definitely a unique twist on the normal combat systems, and was better than Til The End of Time, which was also a great game. I think the other had a slightly better soundtrack overall, but this one has a few great ones as well.
i absolutely despised this game up until i just stopped trying to take the story and character seriously, and accepted how ridiculously fun it is. Not to mention how underrated the importance of battle themes are, for how much time you spend with them in the background in your standard jrpg. Glad they nailed this one.
Reimi's English voice actor Laura Bailey also did the voice of Chun-Li in Street Fighter IV and Lucina in Fire Emblem Awakening and Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U.
Funny enough, her Japanese voice is Misato Fukuen; she's Japanese Sakura Kasugano and 4 other characters dubbed by Brina Palencia :P Meanwhile, Edge in Japanese is Cody Travers (Daisuke Kishio) and in English is Fei Long (Matthew Mercer).
This is what made the game enjoyable and when the demo was released back then...this battle song...even the battle tutorial is awesome with this theme.
One of the best battle theme ever! Slightly behind "la crème de la crème" Octopath Traveler, FF7-8-9-10, Skies of Arcadia, Shining the holy ark, Valkyrie Profile battle themes.
"It's thanks to you Edgie."-Lymle, even after she says" Too easy, I could have done it all by myself." XD I also love Arumat, he's like a combination of Abel Nox and Dias Flac,. :XD
I focus on scoring green tiles and grinding for Party SP in order to speed up the Skill Boost menu function. This is essential if you’re trying to max out the HP Boost skill. To ward off Bonus Board collapse, play as Reimi or Bacchus and stay far away from enemies that are in Rush Mode.
Need a star ocean 6. This time have a badarse like arngrim or guts. And need deep character background development and history backstory of each character this time. 1.) A ronin samurai who used to be a lord of a samurai faction. 2.) A bandit knight who used to be a noble prince. 3.) A shinobi who abandoned his lord his fellow shinobis and master. 4.) A headhunter spearfighter who lost all his comrades in an ambush. 5.) A revolver twirling master who used to be in charge of a secret sepcial forces military operations. 6.) A repeating crossbow horseback warrior who went on solo hunting adventures, and lost his way back to his nomadic tribesmen. 7.) A former muay thai taekwondo hybrid star champion, master of knockout left high kicks, master of headshot axe kicks, and master of back kicks to the liver. 8.) And etc.
To maintain the Bonus Board, stay away from enemies that are in Rush Mode. Fall back until the enemy is out of Rush Mode. Let the AI party members handle the enemy if that enemy is in Rush Mode. If your target is in Rush Mode, switch to a different character that’s out of harm’s way.
NeedMorePuppies Yeah, sadly, I agree. It was better than 4, and i enjoyed it more than final fantasy 15. But ehh, it was just a good game, nothing to special.
Yeah, sorry to bring this dead thread back to life lol Like, it was decent, I'm glad that they recycled a bunch of shit from 3 like all of Fayt's attack animations, but it just isn't the same The story was dull and the writing was lazy, and the voice acting was pretty putrid at times
If there’s another enemy nearby on the field and you’ve just finished a battle, but it doesn’t result trigger an Ambush, I’d call it a “Pseudo-Ambush.”
@13KuroNeko13 yea.. is really like tales mixed (I don´t remember what battle theme...maybe from Destiny 2 I think), is because the composer is the same, Motoi Sakuraba >_>
Personally, I find Sakuraba bland 95% of the time. A lot of his scores are filled with a lot of forgettable filler. But when that man gets a good battle theme? Hell hath no fury. He NAILS it. Wow.
Eh, I'd say his work has some filler but mainly a lot of his work is really good. Chrysanthemum In Winter A Little Bird who Forgot how to Fly Incantation of the Devil Pretty much all of Valkyrie Profile ost. I like his work a lot.
Yeah,, I didn't really consider myself a huge fan 'cause all I had was the SO2 OST for years but I've bought like six Sakuraba albums in the past month (tax refund). VP is insane (why... why didn't I listen to that sooner!?) SO3, VP arrange, SO2 arrange, and Baten Kaitos. I don't think it's fair to say Sakuraba albums have more filler than any other composers. I don't care who's is composing, you're going to have filler, especially if the score is 4 CDs long. That said, not to diminish his work but once you've heard one Sakuraba battle theme you know what you're in for.
I'd say he's just as good with non-battle music, though it's often overlooked. Aeos' music is pretty amazing, and the end credits music in this game is really good too. And really, the ship music (A Place for Reflection) is quite remarkable. I notice it more the more I replay this game. :)
Definitely a highlight of this game. I remember people complaining about SO4 years back, but then SO5 came along and...was just crap. Including its "normal battle theme," haha. I'll be happy if SO6 is actually, genuinely "flawed but good." Not expecting it to be on the level of Second Story, though.
Picking the game up next week, but so far, this battle theme is the best in the series for me. Also, my favorite characters are Edge, Reimi, Faize, and Arumat. Probably gonna be my party members.
@@KobayashiBrynhild I literally never used Meracle, she's the only ending I missed lol (well somehow I missed Faize and the cool guy who "sacrificed" himself too)/ Edge, Reimi, Sarah and Faize/Arumat was my go-to team.
I've been playing Star Ocean: The Last Hope International on the PS3 since 2010, and I still play it. I played it more than any other Star Ocean game. This song could be used in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, specifically the upcoming DLC stage "City of Midgar", home stage of Cloud from Final Fantasy VII.
Of course i want to be a Featherfolk. But poor Sarah knows everyone wouldn't hate her so much if she didn't have a voice actress who gave her a nails on a chalkboard voice. Sarah really needs to have words with her agent.
I first played Star Ocean 4 on the XBOX360 and I enjoyed it however I did not like the whole disc swapping to backtrack to certain locations so recently I bought Star Ocean 4 International on the PS3 and I am going to play it again and to see if there is anything new that was added.
I like this battle theme. Also this is just my opinion but i feel like some of the star ocean games suffer from slow attack speed. Star ocean divine force fixed that, making the attack speed much better.
I still wonder why I quit playing this game a few years ago. Maybe it has something to do with the Xbox controller, or the boss battle. Oh well, at least I'm back to playing this game again, on my PS3 this time. Spend about 42 hours into this game, and have no regret spending so many hours playing. I love the Star Ocean series as much as I love the Tales series. But those boss battle though, ugh.
Nancy Lo Tri Ace loves incredible difficult boss fights. Try playing Resonance of Fate, there is one side quest where you are level 50 and have to kill a lv 70 boss...
+Mackenzie Layne No, I've already played all the game, from my PS1 all the way to my PS3, didn't even skip the PSP version of the first and the second. Honestly though, I hardly remember much of the stuff that happened in Till the End of Time.
I wish there was more diversity with the party members, i mean, sure you get a cyborg and a fellpool, but Star Ocean two had Ashton, plus Opera with 3 eyes :D
@darqetsu I don't agree, but I'm glad you think so, it's worthy of that praise and I find it annoying that some people act like this is the worst game ever.
Love this song. Edge: "This all they got!?" Bacchus: "This is more like an Anti-Climatic affair!" Lymle: "I'm Stronger Than Faize 'Kay!" Meracle: "Level UP!" Love the quotes in this game. 5/5 Stars. (mighta messed up some of them but oh well : D)
@HaruTouga I'm not really sure, since every now and then she shows she's a lot smarter then she usually lets on. At the very least, I'm pretty sure she would have more fans if they found the poor thing a better voice actress.
In the early game of Star Ocean: The Last Hope, it’s harder to score a red or yellow tile as Reimi than as Edge. That feat should’ve been a trophy for Reimi. It’s not possible to score a yellow tile as Reimi without using MP.
This sounds awesome, i dont know how much hate this game has gathered in USA, but its one of the best JRPG's of this awful generation along Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey.
I don't care what anyone says... this game was great.
Was definitely a unique twist on the normal combat systems, and was better than Til The End of Time, which was also a great game. I think the other had a slightly better soundtrack overall, but this one has a few great ones as well.
I think most people were turned off by perhaps the characters and story animations, cus that's the only problem I've had with the game.
Nibly Pibly your right this game is the best apart from FF7
And I agree.
It really is a good game.
Outstanding. This is how you do fight music in an RPG.
This music rocks, kay?
Killer Song. Sakuraba's genius shines yet again.
My all time favorite JRPG battle theme.
I love 1:18 when it explodes into that awesome riff. So energizing!!!
Perilous Battle in the Distant Space!! Blood on the Keys!!
2019 anyone? We need more games like this 🎮👍❤❤❤
2 minute 43 second loop damn Motoi you were feeling it.
this game was so much fun its incredible
Same composer, Motoi Sakuraba. He's a genius.
i absolutely despised this game up until i just stopped trying to take the story and character seriously, and accepted how ridiculously fun it is. Reimi's English voice actor Laura Bailey also did the voice of Chun-Li in Street Fighter IV and Lucina in Fire Emblem Awakening and Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U.
+David Hill Laura Bailey has done probably hundreds more games than that as well, lol. She's the female Troy Baker.
Funny enough, her Japanese voice is Misato Fukuen; she's Japanese Sakura Kasugano and 4 other characters dubbed by Brina Palencia :P
Meanwhile, Edge in Japanese is Cody Travers (Daisuke Kishio) and in English is Fei Long (Matthew Mercer).
Rise Kujikawa from Persona 4
Supergirl for Injustice 2
Yup, that's true. That's sadly one reason I'm not very excited to hear her voice nowadays....
Abigdummy4life Also, Matthew Mercer is the voice of Chrom in Fire Emblem Awakening and Shigure in Fire Emblem Fates.
Despite not liking the game, this is the best starocean battle theme
This is what made the game enjoyable and when the demo was released back then...this battle song...even the battle tutorial is awesome with this theme.
Does anyone else think it's kinda scary how the premise of this game actually feels so very close to our current world? 😅😅
I loved Meracle, she was the powerhouse on my team
Love that riff that starts at 1:19!! SO AWESOME!!
アナムネシスで使われていて、気に入った曲の一つ!
Say about SO4 all you want, but it just has the best battle theme of all! So happy you can choos it in SO5 as battle theme!
Benedikt Benstein seriously?? I couldn't find it anywhere.
神曲すぎる!

1:30 That "the true mirror" part... Cool
I hear this song soooo much
Bacchus: I long for a battle that will allow me to feel heat!

This song and "The Eleventh Hour" should be featured as DLC in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, specifically the upcoming DLC stage "City of Midgar."
Wyrmnus Maybe it would fit in Gaur Plains stage.
Star Ocean 5 announced!! Bring on the hype!!
Here is some hype. Can't wait.
I'm hyping for this too!
Just beat it yesterday
I guess nostalgia increases my expectations too much, I don't think anything will ever live up to Star Ocean 3

got the game yesterday and its awesome absolutley awesome^^
and the battle theme fits perfectly^^
thx for uploading it^^
Best song i've ever herd! Hooray for Motoi Sakuraba!
So badass compared to Cutting Edge of Notion.
Blindside!
At 1:30 the Sakuraba employs the same exact build that he always does. I thought I was listening to the Baten Kaitos soundtrack for a second.
Hello, Golden Sun called; they'd like to not be left behind.
I still remember the first time. Holy shit this is the battle theme?? yeeaaaaaaaah !!!
Just started Star Ocean 5. Game is great thus far, but boy do I miss this epic battle theme... Just not the same without it.
You can choose battle themes in that game and this is one of them
Edge, Reimi, Meracle, and Sarah are my unstoppable team. I plow through eveything even on Chaos mode.
I like star ocean games even with their flaws
Edge: "It's not like I'm not giving it my all, but is that all they got?"
The Victory quote goes something like that.
Ah, he makes me think of Dias Flac with his quotes!
Awesome Battle Song and still a very Good and enjoyable game even in 2024! 🥰

1:19 Man really left blood on the keys
R2 R2 R2 R2 R2 R2 - flawless victory, oh memories of a "good game" xD this battle music was badass tho +1

Brutal! One of the best Battle themes in history!
Now this is a battle theme. In a different universe Motoi Sakuraba plays in a 70s prog rock band a la ELP.
Well he did in fact was in a prog rock band but in the 80s
I hate it when there's blood on my keys.
Music is awesome
Of course i want to be a Featherfolk. But poor Sarah knows everyone wouldn't hate her so much if she didn't have a voice actress who gave her a nails on a chalkboard voice.
Sarah really needs to have words with her agent.
Hey I have a qustion and correct me if I am wrong but, didnt Motoi Sakurabai also composed songs for the Golden Sun series for the GBA? reply plz
@TheWalkingBlondeJoke a little late there bro
@TheWalkingBlondeJoke i can respect that
youre not getting away this time!! Mystic Cross, Aura Spark!!
Haven't played the game yet but this reminds me a lot of Cutting edge of notion
the beginning and end of the timeline respectively
@Airigh
Agreed. It does sound like Baten Kaitos at parts.
this seems more like a long boss theme honestly most RPG battle songs are short but this is actually pretty great for a battle song
Myuria: I'm not letting you kids beat me yet!
@Slangwell It's the same composer that did Baten Kaitos.
You're right. It is called "For Achieve" because it's from the first Star Ocean game.
I first played Star Ocean 4 on the XBOX360 and I enjoyed it however I did not like the whole disc swapping to backtrack to certain locations so recently I bought Star Ocean 4 International on the PS3 and I am going to play it again and to see if there is anything new that was added.
Game's a solid 2 on a good day but Sakuraba in his Vesperia era always slapped
why do i feel like i've already played this game after listening to this song even though i've never played it before. anyone else feel this way?
Probably u played a game that has similar sounding OST?
Play as a melee character such as Edge or Faize to build the Bonus Board. Play as a projectile character, such as Reimi or Bacchus, to maintain it.
I like this battle theme.
Also this is just my opinion but i feel like some of the star ocean games suffer from slow attack speed. Star ocean divine force fixed that, making the attack speed much better.
