You have to understand, they in a foreign country where not that much people speak english, and a crowd of estimated 500 thousands people all singing outloud all your songs. Something special was going on there.
What people outside of Brazil don't know is that in this ocasion he did not have to work the crowd. That's how brazilian crowds show their love to our favorite artists. We may not even speak english, but we know the words of the song. That was love statement from 300,000 brazilians to her majesty Queen.

Queen was formed in 71. They first album came out in 73. In 76 they had 4 albums already 😜 Him letting the audince sing most of this song has nothing to do with him being tired. This was a thing he did with this song.
Ah,the first Rock'n Rio was antologic!Great shows and great performances were made there.See the gigantic audience? The ground was full of mud, because rained too much on that days but no one gave up and stayed on the mud just to see the greatests rock bands of the Twent Century. This presentation of Queen and Freddie Mercury was one of great moments of the festival, for sure! Many bands dream to repeat this moment like The Queen did,but no one got It until now! Unfortunately, the Rock'n Rio of now are just a shadow of the first shows before. Great choice,Frank, anyway.
Wow that’s emotional, I was at home watching it because I was young. I remember I recorded everything in my “videocassette” because I already loved Freddie. Best concert ever! ❤️ He was amazed because people’s language in Brazil is Portuguese and everyone knew and sang in English 🙋🏼♀️🇧🇷
Hey Frank, This is Brazil when we speak about the special moments to artists and us. The brazilian public is a people loves music very much and this concert with Queen it was very special to the band and for us too, because the first Rock in Rio was heppend on the big field on the west zone from Rio de Janeiro's town. Always the brazilian pubilc will be a special moment to your favorite artist and to record when we started sing a song together with then. you can see that on the same concert with Iron Maiden with song Fear of the Dark and in Rock in Rio 3 in 2001, when they came back to Brazil to play on this concert too. After that they come back to play to Rio to play in 2019 on Rock in Rio too. Each concert in Brazil is very special to us and for the our favorite band or artist when we sing a song together. The energy changed between the artist and us, it a thing very special to everyone. a great hug to you.
Just to be more precise! The Works Tour in 1984/1985 was one of Queen's largest tours and included the Brazil Rock in Rio festival-in which they appeared on stage at two o'clock in the morning in front of 470,000 people during the first night and 250,000 on the second night. The Boston Globe described it as a "mesmerising performance".
It is wild to think the circumstances of this show for those who actually went there. Brazil just went through a military dictatorship, meaning that, above all, the economy was closed. So, shows like these were a once-in-a-lifetime achievement. They didn't had smartphones, nor computers, not google or even any common source of learning English. Keep in mind that Brazil still has a fairly poor education system, imagine it back at the day. Imagine how hard it would be to know these lyrics. Then someone decides to make a festival for hundreds of thousands of people in an open field. It rains on the day of the Queen's show, so you are covered in mud, surrounded by people and, most likely, hundreds of metres away from the stage (it's fair to assume there wasn't any screens either). And then, finally, this happens.
Frank, I was there my friend ! Incredible moment ! The best FESTIVAL, the best performance of Rock in Rio !!! Rock in Rio 85: Queen, AC/DC, Whitesnake, Scorpions, Ozzy Osbourne, IRON MAIDEN ...amazing man and I was there all data !!!
We, the brazilian people, when we love anything, we really love... here Freddie was a king, beloved... the 85's Rock ib Rio was a moment to honour and show to Queen how much that love was and are real... the biggest coral ever....
/// Even in the movie about Freddie, it is said that he thought it was the best moment of the group, I do believe he thought it, because it was (is) really amazing!
That's why i think that Brazilian crowd is the best, our energy, passion, emotion is vibrant, and like if the singer can't sing, or doesn't want, don't worry we got your back lolllll
Rock in Rio happens on a special arena that's put together specially to the festival, every time is happens. It's called Cidade do Rock (Rock City). This was the biggest paid concert Queen ever had, even bigger than the Wembley one. I'm 40 and a huge Queen fan who didn't have the opportunity to watch Freddie live. As unbelievable as it might sound, I actually remember some flashes from this concert that was broadcasted by Globo TV, I was 4 years old. Never seen Freddie live, but I got to see Queen+Adam Lambert in São Paulo, 2015. One gets what one gets
An Important Fact my dear Frank, in this Show the Public was in an Open Venue, and in total there were about 1 million and two hundred thousand people, singing together with the Queen Band, this was for sure their Biggest Show by far, and the Brazilians to this day maintain this custom, of happily singing along with international artists who come to Brazil, doing some concert tour, a more recent example was the American singer Katy Perry, who had a similar audience to the Show do Queem in 1985. In case you're curious, there's the video of that performance at Rock in Rio in which he participated.
I WAS THERE !!! Nowadays i ve lived in Moscow for almost 9 years but i m from Rio de Janeiro ... January , 1985 first Rock in Rio Unbelievable year to all headbangers For 1st time in the Brazil History we had opportunity to see all together incredible concerts as IRON MAIDEN , SCORPIONS , OZZY OSBOURNE , AC⚡DC , WHITESNAKE , YES and of course this awesome QUEEN concert ... each band played on two different days . ( just IRON MAIDEN played only 1st day ) So , i did watch all of them twice at that time 🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸👍👍👍👍 Nice reaction bro Thanks for bringing me amazing memories ...
Valchiria, I was there.. It was electrifying and Mercury said it was the pinnacle of his career. They estimated well over 300k paying crowds. I remember the concerts were very expensive for the time. The Rolling Stones concert you mentioned was in Copacabana beach with 1.5 million people attending in the sand, road and in the ocean. A humanity beauty.
I was at the Montreal concert as well as the Live-Aid concert. Both of them were amazing but the Live Aid took the cake. I was blown away. I will never forget these concerts! I still have part of those tickets framed and will never part with them. I'm so lucky to have been part of these incredible moments in history.

Here on radio in Brazil, they always play this version of RocknRio 85 and it always thrills me a lot when I listen. I was born in 85, so I had no idea what the band was. Just as you say in the video, I also have the same thought: This captivating figure is gone too soon.
As you said it is not the most important but for the record: Freddie Mercury finnished graphical design, Brian May finished mathematics and physics and has phD in astrophysics, Roger Taylor is biologist, and John Deacon an electronic engeneer. I think Brian said in one interview it was estimated that there were about 750 000 on that open space concert in Rio.
I always heard that this show was epic, but I postponed stopping to check it out. Thanks to Frank's channel I was able to see this presentation and ... well .. wow !!
Well, What can i say? I WAS THERE!!!! 1985, my hometown it is about 4 hours driving from Rio. Crazy days!!! Quenn, Iron Maiden, Acdc e lots of others great bands!!! 17 years old!!! Miss that time!!!
It's nice to notice that the crowd is the most part brazilian… so that amount of people thats is not english speakers, singing along the whole music, is impressive…
Hello, the official version in 1985 is that there were 250,000 people, but as it became known later by Queen and the Brazilian government, there were more than 350,000 people setting a world record for the largest paid audience ever gathered in the same event. Amazing
This was in the First edition of Rock in Rio... This place was build exclusively for the festival... They called the place as Cidade do Rock (Rock City).
Live Aid was held simultaneously at Wembley Stadium in London, attended by about 72,000 people, and John F. Kennedy Stadium in Philadelphia, attended by 89,484 people.
It was my First contact with Queen. The Rock in Rio I was amazing. 14 days with differents sound. At the same festival we had watched Scorpions, ACDC, Rod Stweart, Al Jerau, Yes, B 52. During more than 10 hours with music on differents sounds, It was fantástic. I beber forget. Many Artists that participate on there, became in shock when the audience things without a mistake when Sing. Brasilians love or hate.
Brian has a ph.D in astrophysics. Freddie had a degree in Graphic Design. Roger has a degree in Biology (pre-med). John has a degree in engineering/electronics. Massive talent and amazing people. 💜💜💜💜

I cried for days because my parents didn't let me go to this Rock in Rio. Today I would do the same with my kids, I was just 11 years old at the time...lol. All TV channels,, radios, magazines magically promoting the event, Ney Matogrosso opening the festival to make it more surreal. Every time I see any video from that especific festival makes me go back in time, ❤ pumps as it did in my early age biggest dream.
Me, at my 12yrs old, with my cousins, we all are there. I was in the second show (thursday, january, 18th 1985), was a very rainy night, and right before, at tha same night, we saw Kid Abelha, The B-52's, Lulu Santos and Queen (there was The Go-go's too, but I don't watch tem). In that night, there was 250,000 People in the audience. At The opening, was more:300,000... I think that this vídeo was capture on the first Day...

We may not even speak english, but we know the words of the song. That was love statement from 300,000 brazilians to her majesty Queen.
Iconic! In Brazil the audience performs the show.
Primo Rock a Rio. Mia madre è andata ai Queen's Day.
1° Rock in Rio.
Oh! You did it! I'm so happy when you accept my suggestion
Only you alecrim dourado who was born in the field without being sown 😉😘
@@asanamaria melhor elogio! Hahahaha
@@asanamaria obrigada! 😄 já sugeri algumas outras coisas pro Frank e ele reagiu. Por exemplo, Tema da Vitória do Ayrton Senna com o Roupa Nova. Muito legal poder interagir através da música. Eu queria trabalhar com algo ligado a música.
@@asanamaria uhauahuahauhauahauha Good one!
Brian May has a PhD in astrophysics. John Deacon studied electronics, and Roger Taylor studied dentistry. Freddy graduated with a degree in design. All 4 are immensely talented in multiple ways
The amount of talent in the band queen was staggering.
R.I.P FREDDIE WE MISS YOU
Anos depois consegui o DVD desse show.
Queen always give me the chills, but this performance in Rock in rio is even more than that. I can't even describe how great this is.
Queen was formed in 71. They first album came out in 73. In 76 they had 4 albums already 😜
Him letting the audince sing most of this song has nothing to do with him being tired.
So true!
Hey Frank,
This is Brazil when we speak about the special moments to artists and us.
Esse show sempre me emociona.
It was audiences from all over Latin America to see Rock in Rio 85, nobody wanted to miss seeing the great bands live. Thanks for this memory
Must be so special, being and artist on the stage having hundreds of thousands of people serenating you with your song 🥰🥰🥰🥰
Frank, I was there my friend ! Incredible moment ! The best FESTIVAL, the best performance of Rock in Rio !!! Rock in Rio 85: Queen, AC/DC, Whitesnake, Scorpions, Ozzy Osbourne, IRON MAIDEN ...amazing man and I was there all data !!!
i was there man. one of the greatests moments in my life! Crying like a baby now. I was 14yo
We, the brazilian people, when we love anything, we really love... here Freddie was a king, beloved... the 85's Rock ib Rio was a moment to honour and show to Queen how much that love was and are real... the biggest coral ever....
/// Even in the movie about Freddie, it is said that he thought it was the best moment of the group, I do believe he thought it, because it was (is) really amazing!
i dont think ANYTHING in music industry has been better than this performance. we're the best crowd EVER. ever been will ever be
That's why i think that Brazilian crowd is the best, our energy, passion, emotion is vibrant, and like if the singer can't sing, or doesn't want, don't worry we got your back lolllll
Amazing performance. Brian, Freddie, a 12 string & 1/2 million people created magic.
550.000 in two days, Queen sung twice in Rock in Rio: day one 350 k; day two 200 k
BEAUTIFUL - Freddie in his element! 💕 Deeply missed ...
January , 1985 first Rock in Rio
Unbelievable year to all headbangers
For 1st time in the Brazil History we had opportunity to see all together incredible concerts as IRON MAIDEN , SCORPIONS , OZZY OSBOURNE , AC⚡DC , WHITESNAKE , YES and of course this awesome QUEEN concert ...
each band played on two different days . ( just IRON MAIDEN played only 1st day ) So , i did watch all of them twice at that time 🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸👍👍👍👍
Nice reaction bro
Thanks for bringing me amazing memories ...
1985, I was there !!! First day of Rock in Rio I , it rained a lot, 300.000 people , unforgetable!
Freddie Mercury was the best ever!
I listen to him everyday & still cry what a loss
Thank you for posting this video!
É They Don´t Care About Us. Veja em ruclips.net/video/QNJL6nfu__Q/видео.html
Queen formed in 1970 and their first album was out in 1973 . I know I went their live gigs at that time and bought their first album then !
I never gonna forget Freddy saying in a Brazilian news program that he was amazed by the fact that even the Audience speaking another language they sang love of my life like they knew it forever
This performance gives me chills every single time. Chills and tears. Thank you for the reaction! 💗
I was 16 yrs old in 1976!! Just adored Queen with Freddie Mercury, just incredible always xx
Graças a Deus eu fui.
more than 250 k people and i was there...was amazing...
I am 54 years old and I was there, january 11st 1985. Your words make me cry, brother. This was a great moment In my life, is In my heart forever.
Thank you for the vídeo.
Thanks for Mr Deacon, Mr May And Mr Taylor.
Miss you Freddie! All my love!!! ❤️
Here on radio in Brazil, they always play this version of RocknRio 85 and it always thrills me a lot when I listen. I was born in 85, so I had no idea what the band was. Just as you say in the video, I also have the same thought: This captivating figure is gone too soon.
This show makes me cry every single time, idk why, it's like, the energy of it makes me emocional
Good , this song is one of my favorite , this concert o my God so many people ....this band is forever thank a lot
1985, my hometown it is about 4 hours
driving from Rio.
250.000 mil pessoas cantando com ele 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏😭😭💕💕💕💕💕💕💕🇧🇷
Dale Valchiria, Avanti man, a historycal nigth. I was there!😎
Three hundred thousand people this day . It Was beatiful !!
Hello, the official version in 1985 is that there were 250,000 people, but as it became known later by Queen and the Brazilian government, there were more than 350,000 people setting a world record for the largest paid audience ever gathered in the same event. Amazing
oh man this song simply let us got totally emotional...awesome....good times, good songs....
It was amazing! Queen played two days in Rock In Rio. Search for the other day. It was incredible too.
300 thousand people in the city of rock in an unforgettable night
The biggest concert ever in the world so far! I’d like to be there! Queen amazing! ❤️
This was in the First edition of Rock in Rio... This place was build exclusively for the festival... They called the place as Cidade do Rock (Rock City).
I was there in 1985... it was amazing, we'll never forget that night!....
Live Aid was held simultaneously at Wembley Stadium in London, attended by about 72,000 people, and John F. Kennedy Stadium in Philadelphia, attended by 89,484 people.
love this song, on my play list whenever I am driving...:-))
Oh my gosh! Thanks Frank! I love Queen❤️❤️❤️
Eles fizeram uma homenagem no Rock in Rio para o Freddie em 2015 cantando Love of my Life. Apenas o Brian e o público.
That Rolling Stones show was new year Celebration at Copacabana beach. Usually at least 3 million people gather there at new year's Eve.😲
All the Big World Bands, had them biggest audiences in Brasilian soil. 210 millons of citizens, and everyone love music and love to celebrate that. Awsome italian guy, called Frank
Man, you gotta watch Rush Performing YYZ in rio, the whole crowd was singing A INSTRUMENTAL SONG
Oh My God! Unforgettable 💖💖💖
