  • This is footage of the 2015 Steamtown Railfest excursion from Scranton to the Delaware Water Gap on September 05, 2015 along the former Delaware Lackawanna & Western mainline through the Pocono Mountains. The visiting star of this excursion was the Fort Wayne Railroad Historical Society's Nickel Plate Road Berkshire #765 who was visiting eastern Pennsylvania as part of Norfolk Southern's short-lived revived steam program.
During this excursion, riding in the vestibule was permitted to the former DL&W station at Delaware Water Gap but not allowed between that point and Slateford Junction. This video records #765 as she struggles uphill trying to get out of Scranton (not shown was she stalled going through Nay Aug Tunnel) and then handles the consist with ease once she beyond the city limits.
Notes: Mileposts are measured from Hoboken, NJ; Curve numbers are numbered from the Delaware River viaduct at Slateford Junction (i.e. first curve after crossing westbound into Pennsylvania is Curve #1). This video was filmed using a Sony HDR-CX260 Handycam camcorder.
